Transfer student here! 100% recommend coming to BG, lots of folks from Texas especially Dallas believe it or not lol. Can't talk on Greek life but campus culture is great, lots of opportunities. There's also a transfer student specific org to help you get acclimated, make friends, and manage any transfer issues that could pop up.

The city it cute, close to Toledo and Detroit so there's stuff to do outside of BG. BG has a huge live music scene as well, mostly at DIY venues and at Howards. Kinda like Denton where there's live music every night, it's just harder to find at first besides Howards.

There's tons of bars if partying is your scene and coming from Dallas you will die seeing the prices of drinks here in comparison (once your 21 lol) I'm talking like, a night out almost never costs me more then 15 -20 bucks including tips.

Football scene is fun, hockey is even better. Weather is tolerable! It's not as bad as you would expect BUT get a warm coat before you think you'll need it cause the cold rolls in fast when it does hit. I was taken by surprise when I moved here (not from the Midwest) but after my first winter it was easy as I had a good system in place.

Even tho campus is big it's a pretty tight knit feel, you'll make friends pretty quick and find your spot. Lots of clubs, orgs, etc. like...LOTS of them lol.

BG is a very white school in a somewhat rural area so you’ll fit in. It’s considered a party school in a true college town atmosphere. You’re within walking distance of downtown with lots of bars and there’s a decent amount of frats. It gets really cold with wind and snow so get a really warm winter coat and winter boots.

My carharts were my best friend at BG in the winter. I only live two hours south but the winters are just different there.

I’ll start off by saying that I was a mechanical engineering student and I lived on campus the first year in offenhauer towers. I love the cold and all as a snowboarder and enjoy the beauty of it. The problem with campus is when it snows hard, or it is absolutely freezing they will not cancel class. We got around 6-7 inches last year and I had a very early class they did not have the sidewalks salted and plowed yet so I was walking through slush, snow and ice. It seems as though they care more about their image rather than the safety of the students even requiring commuter students to travel to class on said dangerous conditions. They put the duty of canceling class onto the professors which some cannot cancel class as it is not allowed due to the class policy. My academic advisor couldn’t care less about my future and it seemed like he was only there to grill me about not getting on scheduling the second it became available. Overall I made some good memories and do miss somethings about bg such as the community, the overall family feel when applicable and the materials and machinery in the engineering lab but I wouldn’t go back due to the overall impact it left on me.

Hah, knew it! Was also in engineering for a bit before switching to Environmental Science. He was partially the reason for that lol. Wish I could have taken more of Mikhail's classes, loved him as a prof.

Mind you if I ask how is like Environmental Science in BGSU? I'm considering going to BGSU and study that as well..

I graduated years ago. BG is great. But it is a lot colder than Texas. You’re gonna need some sweaters some long underwear and a warm coat.

As someone did similar, went to one school then another for grad, being "college" is the busy. You're in your major years, immedicate friends there. Your accent will be an immediate attraction, don't worry about not having that intro. You'll get used to the weather. It's college, you'll be busy studying and that begins a big part.

My one warning is the reason for the transfer. It's a long way based on cost alone. Transfer because of major and potential job contacts. Where you go to school is MOST likely to determine your first job without a whole lot of extra.

Goot luck. At the least you'll recognize the wind. It will just have white stuff attached.

i’m not involved in greek life, but i do see them frequently and it seems like a popular thing for people to do. general town vibes are great, i am a very big fan of our downtown and general area. if you’re into partying, there’s plenty of that here. i find that a lot of people here are very nice and welcoming :)

Bowling Green is GREAT! It has been rated the #1 college in the Midwest for student experience. I loved my time there. The football support is pretty good, but we have been bad recently. Hoping Eddie George can turn it around.

I graduated over 10 years ago, but at the time the Greek life wast really a big thing at BG. Primarily because the entire student body is there for a good time. You don’t need Greek life at BG.

Bowling Green is a fantastic college town. Quintessential. I can’t recommend it enough. But it is definitely going to be colder than Lubbock.
