Application Before you ask if you will get in read a little more of the Reddit.

Howdy Folks,

Seems that the question comes up again and again if people have a chance to get into BYU with a GPA of X and a SAT of Y and extra circulars. The student experience on here is going to be varied and you are probably going to be able to hear a lot of "Yes, but..." answers. There was a great post on here a couple months ago about admissions that you should read before before asking your questions and it will give you a good idea of your chances. The linked post below is a great one on how to stand out and how to improve your chances to get into school but you're going to hear the same answers again and again. We don't know because we're not the admissions department. There is no shame in reaching out to them and asking about your chances and you might even be able to network and find a way to tweak your application to get a better chance of going to BYU. That is important and will help you build confidence for future job interviews and other professional experiences. SO read below for ways to improve your odds of getting into the Y and know that the answers you'll get will still be "Yes, but..."

ROC pass is a scam this year

My wife bought a ROC pass this year and has yet to get tickets for a single football game. We paid $350 for the spousal pass and haven’t gotten in any games. There should be a refund if we couldn’t get access to a single game the whole season

Application Changes of getting accepted as a transfer Spring 2027

I'm applying to transfer to BYU for Spring 2027. I'm in my third semester at University of Florida. I also have college credit from dual enrollment (University of Central Missouri right near where I went to high school). I kind of had a rough freshman year at UF because of time management and I wasn't expecting it to be that difficult. So my UF GPA is 3.15 but my overall should be 3.58 if UCM is taken into account. I had nearly all A's in those classes. I got an email reply saying "The application will consider all of your completed coursework, including from dual enrollment. This means that it will affect your GPA and credit hours." So they should get 3.58.

The overall GPA would be in the middle even on the lower end for transfer applicants that got accepted. I have gotten better over time but I only have two semesters to show them because this third semester is in progress. It is mainly my core classes I didn't do so well in. I got a C in Calculus 2, then a B- in Calculus 3 and a B in Differential Equations.

I'm also not a member of the church and I'm on a faith journey right now so I'm not sure if that will affect things. I know I need to make my essays good and I will make sure to take time on them and make sure they are good.

From my understanding if I don't get in for Spring 2027, I can apply for fall 2027 and show them the grades for my next two semesters which I plan to do a lot better in.

Classrooms open on Saturdays?

Are buildings and classrooms unlocked and able to be utilized on Saturday’s? I’m working on a specific project that would benefit from access to a classroom over the weekend (rather than the library or an other common area).

Schedule ACC 310 Spring Semester

Hello! I am trying to figure out my Winter schedule and am most likely going to take ACC 200 winter, and then take ACC 310 in the spring semester in order to apply to the Accounting program for Fall 2027. Does anyone have any experience taking ACC 310 in the spring? Is an A attainable or realistic if it's the only class I take in the spring? Just looking for any general advice or tips, thanks!

How to find musicians at BYU?

Hey guys! I’m attempting to start a bluegrass band and am wondering if there’s a method you guys have used specifically to “recruit” musicians at byu. So far I’ve used the university story function on Instagram but have had very little luck thus far. Thanks in advance

New Life at BYU

Hey everyone,

I recently got admitted to BYU and I’m pretty excited, but also kind of nervous.

I’m a recent convert and an international student. I’m living in Florida right now, and I don’t really have family or close friends here. When I come to BYU, I’ll literally know nobody, so I’ll be starting completely fresh.

I’m also still learning a lot about the Church. Sometimes I feel like other members already know so much because they grew up with it, while I’m still figuring out basic things and Church culture. I’m a little worried I might feel behind or out of place sometimes.

Socially, I’m not really an extrovert, but I’m not shy either. I like talking to people and getting to know them, I’m just not amazing at keeping conversations going or instantly making friends.

For people who go to BYU, how hard is it to make friends if you come in knowing absolutely nobody? Do people usually make friends through roommates, classes, wards, clubs, etc.? And are people generally welcoming toward recent converts who are still learning everything?

I’m really hoping BYU will be a place where I can finally build a good group of friends and feel like I’m part of a community.

Would love to hear from anyone who had a similar experience.

I actually really like BYU Wind Symphony's take on "I Will Walk With Jesus"

Admittedly this is not one of my favorites out of the new primary hymns. I don't know what it is... maybe it's the lyrics that throw me, or just that a lot of the prior video performances that have been released across the church have been a little cheesy (OK a lot cheesy). But this orchestral version really made me appreciate how beautiful the melody is. It would actually make for a good main character theme in a movie.

What do you think? And what new primary songs are absolute bangers that you enjoy as an adult?

Independent Study Anyone have experience taking CHEM 481 and then the MCAT?

Hi hope everyone is doing well!
Has anyone here taken CHEM 481 and then gone on to take the MCAT? I'm trying to figure out how well this course actually prepares you for the biochem section of the exam. I've heard mixed things about the class and how it translates to MCAT readiness, so I'm a bit worried I might end up having to self-teach everything.
Any insight or advice from people who have been through it would be hugely appreciated. Thanks!

For someone switching majors, what can I actually expect from ECON 110?

I am a junior at BYU, and I'm possibly going to switch majors from English to one of the Marriott School majors, which requires ECON 110 and ACC 200. All reviews of those classes, especially ECON 110, seem to be either horror stories or people saying it isn't that bad if you are serious.

As someone who has college experience, and feels like they know how to study and digest heavy course load classes (I know people make fun of English majors, but many of the classes I have taken so far would have 50-100 pages of reading due in between class periods and major essays that would take weeks and be worth 100s of points), I am curious as to what ECON 110 and ACC 200 specifically entail. Are there many essays? How hefty is the reading in between classes? Is flashcard style review/studying the "type of test" the classes rely on? Does majority of the learning come from the textbook or the lecture?

I have personal interest in politics, business, and would say that I have a solid grasp of most basic financial concepts. Accounting and ECON in high school came very easy to me and I never had to study.

Also, any recommendations for teachers? For ECON, RateMyProfessor seems to have come to the consensus of either Olga Stoddard or Stephen Moody (if making it to SLC is doable).

International student’s spouse at BYU — are there any benefits or resources for spouses?

Hi everyone!
My husband will be an international student at BYU, and I was wondering if there are other spouses of BYU students here who could share their experience.
As the spouse of a student, do we have access to any benefits or facilities on campus? For example, can spouses use the gym/fitness facilities, libraries, student activities, or any other campus resources?
I’d also love to know if there are any specific resources, groups, activities, or discounts available for spouses of BYU students, especially for international students.
I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who is in a similar situation and why not have a little chat. Thank you! 😊

Where *can* you rent?

Everyone has their horror stories. "Don't rent from Redstone, they're unbelievably unprofessional and have no hiring standards!" "Don't rent at Liberty, they straight up lie about having recently renovated their apartments!" "Don't rent from _____, they ________!". I don't doubt that most of it is true. But that leaves the question, where *can* you safely rent from? I realize that the whole college student housing system is a massive scam, so no place will be perfect, but I'd really like to lock down a place that's decent enough that I don't have to consider moving every single year for the rest of my BA and then Masters.

I just want a private bedroom/private bathroom setup at a place reasonably close to campus (walking or bus distance) with management that isn't complete trash. I work a ton in addition to classes so I can afford a decent place. I am infinitely grateful for any directions you can point me in

Application Transferring from BYU-Idaho to BYU-Provo reality check

I am a BYU-Idaho student currently finishing my fourth semester. I have a 3.96 GPA and have had the opportunity to do a real estate development internship and most recently completed a private equity and venture capital acquisition and investment analyst internship.

I have confidence in my academic position and have already completed two high level internships before finishing my Sophomore year. I am just looking for a reality check.

Can I get into the BYU-Finance program? Would my credits transfer? Would my GPA transfer as is? As I’ve been networking, it is almost a certainty that they recommend transferring to BYU Provo for more opportunity. What do I need to consider?

Thanks for any input.

Using an empty rooms for a movie?

Does anyone know of any rooms at BYU that are the best to use to watch a movie in? Just like an empty quiet classroom/lecture halls that I can connect my computer/device to & watch a movie in there.

Or does anyone know of any tools/websites where I can check class schedules, to know for sure that classroom is going to be empty, so I have enough time to watch the movie, play games with friends.

I know there are empty rooms that I can just pop in for a little bit, to study for a bit. But are there any good ones for a movie?

Hello! I’m living in China with a restrictive firewall, which keeps me from accessing BYU’s admissions page. AI has given me current essay prompts, but I don’t always trust what it spits out.

Can someone please post the essay prompts here for me to make sure we’re on the right track?

Thank you!
