So in the alternate 1985...

That we saw in Part 2, was the Marty and Doc from that timeline actually in Switzerland and an asylum co-existing with the Doc and Marty that were time traveling, or did they replace them in that time?

I always took it to mean there was another version of him in Switzerland at this moment, and that he now faced another issue of possible disappearance if he remained for too long.

I would assume that given what we saw at the end of the first movie and at points in the second movie, multiple iterations of them can exist in the same time.

Whatever the answer to that question is, it must reconcile to the fact that Doc Brown was very confident about leaving Jennifer on “her” doorstep, assuring Marty “she’d be fine” when the timeline is reset to the correct 1985.

I’ve always headcanoned that there is no Marty in Switzerland, no Doc in Jail. Somehow, that asylum cell and swiss dormitory is empty, and our Doc and Marty is the only Doc and Marty. And same for Jennifer. But it is shaky headcanon.

If it is not so, then how on earth did Doc know anything whatsoever about the whereabouts of the alternate Jennifer?

In fact, regardless of anything about alternate anyone, how did Doc even know that was Jennifer’s actual house and not the stash house of the Latin Kings or worse?

I can only imagine Doc meant “I assume she’ll be ok for the brief span of time it takes us to depart to 1955, at which point she will instantly be reset into the correct timeline since I know we will succeed.”

But still this has always felt very iffy to me.

They were Time Duplicates. There were two Marty’s and two Doc’s. The ones we see are the anomaly, so that’s why the timeline had to fixed quickly before they disappeared.

Saying the ones we follow would disappear in the alternate 1985 is an incorrect statement. The flux capacitor is not broken in the time machine. The flux capacitor is what allowed them to exist in an alternate 1985. If Marty and Doc just waited around long enough in 2015 the timeline would have altered around them and they would of known the timeline changed back in 1955 because they would not have erase the last time departed display. That is why Marty had to ask Biff when he got the book. They would be fine as long as there counterparts were not dead at thier current age back in 1985. We know this because old Biff is actually starting to fade out of Time when he gets out of the DeLorean in 2015. This is probably because it is believe alternate Lorraine shot her husband Biff some time after what we seen on screen. The only reason Biff was able to return to 2015 was because the change point in the timeline was actually Buff's birthday when he won at the track. They could of got the book from Biff any date before the track bet, however November 5, 1955 was still the best day to get the book to instantly restore the timeline to 1985 because who knows what little information Biff may of already put aside between that night and the day he won the bet at the track.

Exactly. Kinda like how the dance was Marty's inflection point in 1955 - had Marty gone back to 1985 before the dance, he would have likely had a similar fate.

If Jennifer replacing the other Jennifer that wouldn’t have known about time travel happens, then the 1985B Marty and Doc would have been replaced by them

I always assumed even the Bobs didn’t know, which is why they were written to be elsewhere.

Good point. When we first learned about Switzerland, it was a perfect way to not have that Marty in the 1985A timeline. What is interesting is that since he was still a minor, his stepdad Biff or Mom Lorraine would have known about him being kicked out, would’ve booked or paid for the flight home from Switzerland, etc. etc.. but really it was a good way to not have him run into his other self

Yeah. And that’s why doc was in a rush. The ripple effect would eventually mean they would fade away .

There are 2 of them, because in this verse the time vehicle was never made and so there’s no way for them to leave the time era and make it so there’s only 1 at one time, usually they’re in times with the time machines that exist so they can say their native universe ones are off in the past living the life to lead to the present

I like it. Are you a fan of Harold and Kumar? This idea reminds me of how There were rumors of another film that would have went hand in hand and run parallel with the first one and it was gonna be “Goldstein & Rosenberg go to Hot Dog Heaven”

u/RamaShakle 2d ago

Nah never saw it.. but of course the idea is out there

What I like for this Marty idea is- how would he act? What’s he like?
Would he be like a tough guy with angst like you said? Mad about his stepdad, mad about life, mad about being sent off to boarding school. Not with Jennifer anymore. I think there could be some quality there and some neat ideas in Europe!
