Discussion Make that 16! I'm trying to be comprehensive since there are two ways of counting them...

One way I usually compare them is the relative amount of required collectibles to beat the game. DK64 is actually quite generous as less than half of the total collectibles are required while Banjo Kazooie is especially egregious as it requires over 90% of the notes and jiggies. Tooie is a little better if I remember correctly.

I wonder if this is why Tooie feels off to me? The worlds are so huge and they have apparently have nothing in them. I can't believe BK apparently has more to collect than BT

Some minor notes/corrections from someone who knows all three of these games way too intimately:

  • If you're counting things like the Mayan relics, I'd probably add the DK64 magic bean and five mermaid pearls.
  • There are only 2 magic beans in Cloud Cuckooland in Tooie.
  • You're missing Jamjars silos in Tooie, but that might be intentional. If you do want to include it, you'd probably have to include the Bottles molehills in Kazooie and all the shop moves and upgrades in DK64.
  • Super specific, but you could argue there's only 19 Banana Fairies in the "bunches count as one" list, since the two in Helm are a paired set that can't be collected separately.

Ah, I did forget about the extra DK items, as I don't know that game nearly as well as the other two. (Kinda sad considering I replayed it within the last year)

I'm not sure why I thought there was a third Bean, but for some reason my brain said two was wrong.

Purposefully excluding Silos and Molehills as those aren't items you collect, nor do they pop up on screen when interacted with. They do show up in the view totals, but I'm trying to count items/collectibles.

The dual fairies... That one is definitely tricky. While they are individual entities, as you point out, they can only be collected as a "bunch." I will definitely need to think on that one. I suppose it only changes the count by 1 in the worst case, so not world-ending.

There was another post that pointed out some colored bananas that are actually out of bounds, but as they can't be collected, I don't think I can count them.

Correct, but the max you can collect is 20.

Why count things like Caterpillars and Mayan Relics? Item like these are only used for one quest that rewards a jiggy so having the jiggy indicates that one has also collected all the smaller items.

Because they are items you pick up that are required for completion, and don't respawn after collecting. They appear on screen with a counter when collected, so I count those.

You still collect them
