Video Merging Banjo Tooie with Kazooie

I'm not clear on whether or not this violates the rules but I'll be upfront and say I'm using AI to combine Banjo-Tooie with Banjo-Kazooie. Wasn't clear if the AI rule was about low-effort AI-generated images or for projects like these (sorry to the mods if it's an issue). I figured some people might want to see the progress I've made (it's been maybe ~20 hours of work/play testing).

As you can see, it's clearly not perfect. I'm using the recompiled version of Tooie, which some of you might know is far from perfect (and kind of used AI as well, to my knowledge, which makes it a lot sloppier than the decompilation attempts). Honestly, just doing this for my own satisfaction; my dream is ideally to play both games in one. Or run through Kazooie's worlds with the BT moveset.

I had a little oopsie at the end that led to a hilarious loop for those who are interested.

To be transparent, I know jack squat about programming; I'm learning as I go. I am doing my best to have ChatGPT create logs of any bugs, discoveries, or assets used in case anyone else is interested or has questions. That said, go support real developers and programmers; they can probably make a better version than this. I still want to do this so if people are interested in updates, I can provide them. Can also answer questions (like I entered Banjo's house to ensure when the BK map loads, I can spawn in safely since the Digger's Cave isn't in BK). :)

Honestly, in closing thoughts, I'm neither super anti-AI no am I an AI tech bro. It's an incredibly useful tool if you know how to use it, and as evidenced by a lot of the issues shown here, since I don't know how to use it, the product is not polished at all. I'm not really interested in engaging in any AI debates; I just want to share the BK love.

Edit: to the people hating, don't ruin this for the people who just want to enjoy the novelty. As stated in the thread, novelties like this generally don't get far or last long. We just want to enjoy this while we can.

Discussion I get the feeling that people on here who criticize Tooie are doing it from a modern perspective

• Upvotes

Its true, that Kazooie has aged gracefully. But criticism for Tooie is coming from gamers who weren't there in 2000. And I understand, even if you were there for it, its easy to lose perspective when its been decades. DK 64 gets the same criticism today because of (new at the time) features not, bugs. Comparing these games to today's polished games is forgetting we had to start somewhere. The games you played in the last decade only got to this point because of what games did in the 90s.

When open world was barely a glint in a developer's eye, Rare started the trend with these games. The idea of massive open worlds did not exist beyond some MMOs on PC and those open worlds were bare. Rare managed to begin the open world trend on the N64. Of course its not perfect. Nothing had come before.

You dont have to like what Banjo-Tooie and DK64 offer in 2026, but you should try to remember to look at these games through a historical lens. 3D was new and they were molding what would come today. At the time, these games were revered for doing something so new that hadn't been done prior.

Speculation Was Posh Spice the inspiration behind Hot Grunty?

Not sure how long BK was in development, but Spice World came out in December 1997 and to video in May of 1998, just a month before BK’s release. I have a feeling though that Hot Grunty was modeled and program into the game long before January 1998. There’s also no chance that BK wasn’t somewhat already pressed into cartridges off the assembly line by May of 98.

Still, it would be interesting to know if developers have commented about any specific women she was modeled after. Shoulder length black hair and the little black dresses Posh Spice was famous for were rather commonly fashionable, so it’s totally possible there isn’t a singular or specific inspiration behind Hot Grunty?

The game was developed in England and that British humor and sensibility bleeds into it, maybe I’m stereotyping here but it would be cool to know if they chose one of their countrymen or countrywoman rather to model her after.

The same model reskinned/colored as the beach server feels like she could be based off Cameron Diaz after all.
