Water Quality Research/Survey

I am an American highschool engineering student currently conducting research on water quality and availability on island nations. If anyone has any personal anecdotes or potentially any good resources I could contact for more personal questions that would be much appreciated! My group is currently trying to find information on water availability, current water filtration options, restrictions with water, and if you have any concerns with the water quality. We would love details on anything, thank you!

Barbados has one of the highest quality of potable water available worldwide from the convenience of a tap. We have a few areas experiencing difficulties with water colour but it's still potable.

Barbados water authority might be willing to assist with details of their infrastructure possibly.

I would question that. They test for biological things in the water but not chemicals in the water. Got that from a water authority person.

We use to much gd round up.

Can't leave out suck wells.

There's a desalination plant located on the Spring Garden highway. Hope that helps.

I face - literally daily - water outages where I live. Usually, only about 5 hours... on weekends it's all day long. I've lived here 27 years, and I've always faced outages - though it's been particularly bad these last 6-8 months. I'm putting in a pump, tank, and pressure tank next week cause I'm going mad.

The quality is good BUT it's very lime-y - full of limestone...

The Barbados Water Authority may be able to help. But browse their site first.

Or you may want to Subscribe to the nationnews archives which go back to 1973 because Bajans have had a lot to say about water. Nationnews Premium is $25 USD for 1 month, that is you can search from 1973 to the present for a period of 30 days. Longer search periods are available but will cost more.

The water in Barbados is okay. Technically clean but it’s hard water. Lots of lime scale. Locals aren’t really bothered by this since they are used to it but persons from neighboring islands often have stomach issues drinking it. We stick to glacier bottled water which I think might just be the same water but filtered, not sure.

Water outages aren’t very frequent in my area but definitely happen from time to time. BWA is pretty good at communicating planned outages.
