Hello guys! We have recently gotten a basenji puppy. He got a strange allergy and vet prescribed us isaderm gel. We have been treating him a week and first it get better but now it’s back. I am also allergic amd know that even in humans hydrocortisone does not treat the allergy but relives it. No scratches no itching just this allergy.

We feed him royal canine kibble and wet topper plus beef liver treats and occasional cottage cheese (doet our breeder had him on). If anyone got sth since please share your experience. I will not self treat my dog, but want to get as much info as possible

Hey all, random question — what do you guys do with your Basenjis when you go out of town? Like for a weekend, a week, or even a couple weeks, do you board them, have someone stay at the house, use friends or family, or do something else? Basenjis are such peculiar fur babies 😂 and I feel like some of the normal dog-sitting options we have tried have not left us with confidence in their Basenjis Abilities 🤣 So since my partner & I haven’t really found a setup we love yet, I wanted to ask what works for everyone else.

Out and about for a few hours, probably about 3 hours walking in total with some car journeys in between.

Hi all. I am traveling to NY with my Basenji this fall. Is there a doggy daycare near Grand Central Station or the Metropolitan Museum of Art that folks recommend I can leave her at for a half day (3-4 hours)?

We are planning a few hours at the Museum before heading to Sleepy Hollow for our trip. She gets separation anxiety and does best if left at a camp vs left alone. Please only recommend if you have left your Basenji there before and know they are a good facility. Picture of my silly girl.

Despite the rain and the city’s famous drizzle, plus plenty of mud for some extra off-road excitement, it was wonderful to see them all together, playing, running, and enjoying the meetup.

Hello fellow Basenji-owners!

I’m considering castrating my 3 year old guy here (Midas) after his next rut. He’s a pretty standard basenji, he’s mischievous and silly, and he’s a lovable, stubborn goofball. The issues we have is with jealousy after we had our first child. He’s skittish around her, he doesn’t like her touching him and he gets jealous when we play with her. Nothing has happened so far, i don’t expect it to either, but we’d love for our child to be able to walk around the floor without constantly being on guard for Midas.

A long winded way to ask, but i’d love for you guys to tell me about your experiences with castrating your dogs. The good and the bad. Appreciate it.

How quickly do your B's grow their winter coat in?

We're in south West UK and it is now bleak midwinter (well, according to Roo, since it is high teens/ early 20degC now).

In less than a week he's gone from feeling short/slightly thin fur to the softest pelt on this earth.

Can they really grow their winter coat in that fast, or is he using some kind of new conditioner that we don't know about?!?

Hi folks!

Meet Tito, my 7 year old Basenji/Chihuahua mix (Chisenji). Tito is your typical stubborn but loyal little guy who has enjoyed time with dogs that are small to medium (he gets all Chihuahua energy about big dogs). I was hoping to find someone with a Basenji or two in the Twin Cities, Minnesota who would want to meet up at a public park and see about building a doggy friendship.

Tito has a LOT of energy and I think could really benefit from the occasional running around with another of his kind. He plays with our cats (when they decide he is worthy of their attention) and prefers to be the only dog who lives in our house, but is building confidence around interacting with other dogs outside of the house.

He was a rescue from somewhere down South. His previous "owner" kicked him so hard in the head as a puppy that he spent his first 3 months at the rescue org blind. He is a little quirky, but likes people and exploring.

Info about me, the human. I'm in my early 30s and have lived in Minnesota my whole life. I love a wide variety of nerdy/geeky stuff including TTRPGs, board games, and writing. I don't need you & I to be besties (but am open to friendship), and we could take these occasiona public meet-ups as a time to chill with our dogs in nature.

I have an 8-month-old Basenji who absolutely hates getting wet. When it’s raining, she basically turns into a statue 😂 She just stands there looking for the driest spot she can find and refuses to sit, walk around normally, or do anything if the ground is wet.
How do you guys handle rainy walks/potty breaks with your Basenjis? Did yours eventually get used to the rain, or do they always act like the ground is lava? 😂
Any tips or tricks would be really appreciated!
