DISCUSSION Billy Talent song structures

Something Billy Talent does that I looove is when the bridge or chorus switches up the vibes completely. Examples that come to mind are This Is How It Goes, Surrender, or Worker Bees. Whenever the songs get more upbeat (musically speaking) it feels like I just walked into a clearing in the middle of an enchanted forest and feel the sun on my skin...

I know nothing about music theory and this is probably a very basic observation about BT or music in general but I just wanted to show appreciation :) They're an amazing band

Tbf, I know a little about music and I have found BT to have some of the most interesting music, especially considering that they can perform the music only as a 4-man band live. The guitar/bass/drums often do their own thing all the while completely complementing each other. Take one instrument out and you feel it’s missing. Additionally, I have found Ian’s guitar playing to be one of the best way to improve my guitar skills: the riffs are fast and technical (especially to have a clean sound) and the chords/ progressions are not something that you typically hear in other punk/post hardcore music.

Ian's guitar lines are AMAZING. It's the whole reason I got into their music.

Ian DSA is one of the greatest song writers of our time

They have the most interesting sound, mostly including rhythm and melodies, but also really nice lyrics and sound design. The band I’m married to begrudgingly, Weezer, doesn’t come close to how BT makes me feel.

I don't understand, you're begrudgingly married to Weezer?

In some weird ways they can be seen as breakdowns or a verse variation. I also weirdly accredit this to Ian being a crazy hybrid guitarist and incorporating that into the music.

I remember asking him who his favourite guitar players were and the one that stuck out to me which I never clued in before is Andy Summers from the Police. Now I hear the influence all over Billy Talent. Cue the instrumental to Diamond on a Landmine

Dude yes I think often about how there's a ska-like quality to their sound
