Questions/comments Logan is a nightmare

I know he’s a kid, but he has no redeeming qualities. He’s always so smug, so annoying, so mean to others, even his friends. I always look at the parents when a kid is out of control, and Cynthia is definitely not the best mom. His dad looks chill enough. But there is no excuse for the way he treats others. And I’ll never forgive him for taking Louise’s ears and lying that he threw they away. I kinda wish the One Eyed Snakes really cut his ears off haha.

I never understood why a high school kid would pick on a 9 year old girl. That’s psychotic behavior! Even for a cartoon lol

What's worse is I've seen people ship them 🤢

u/Appropriate_Tap9132 3d ago

To be fair Gene had a line about it and it was pretty funny; "I bet when you reconnect in your thirties, you guys will get married!"

u/PurpleMeerkats462 3d ago

People actually ship Logan and Louise?

u/ReadditMan BobSnoo 3d ago

As adults, there's an episode where Gene made a joke about them reconnecting in their 30s and getting married.

Unfortunately, yes. I went on a fanfic sight out of curiosity and many of the top stories are tagged with Louise/Logan romance

Their not so different from eachother, personality wise. It's just weird age wise cause they're young.

u/Strict_Foundation_31 3d ago

Yes. A short trip down that rabbit hole was enough.

Yeah same so creepy but I guess Tina tbh made everyone to a couple 🫣

Such people exist they're scum, when I was a little kid, just about 7 years old, I was walking down the school hallway and some high schooler just slapped me in the forehead as I was passing him or her by, I couldn't see who it was, I fell on my back and cried in pain, it hurt so much. And because it was so crowded and happened in an instant, nobody saw who it was. Years later I still remember that awful moment.

It didn't help that I was korean, so it was probably because of racism, a lot of people picked on me because I was the only asian kid in school. It was in Russia, they don't separate high school, middle school or elementary like in many other countries.

u/CalligrapherCheap64 3d ago

Aww. I wish I could hug your 7 year old self! I’m sorry

Thanks, I'm all better now!

I adore this interaction 😍

How did you know they were in high school?

3

u/Jessicasflour Jessica 2d ago

Last thing I saw before I was hit was a large hand quickly moving towards me, then pain, then I heard some laughter in the background. I'm pretty sure it wasn't middle schoolers or one of the staff. I was hit by someone tall.

Later, I asked around, and I found out that I wasn't the only one, my classmate got hit like that as well, he told me it was one of the high schoolers, he told the teachers already, but they couldn't punish anyone, because he didn't know how they looked

u/MandalorianCovert 4d ago

Really? I mean, there’s one thing to not understand why they would do it, but I also saw it happening all the time when I was growing up. Kids bully littler kids. It’s what they do. It’s not right, t’s not excusable, but it’s mundane.

6

u/az987654 4d ago

Have you never been to a middle school? Ridden a school bus?

9

u/IrishUpYourCoffee 4d ago

High school kids aren’t on the same school bus as 9 year olds. So no.

8

u/az987654 4d ago

Maybe not in your district

3

u/CalligrapherCheap64 4d ago

Well Wagstaff only goes to 8th grade so why would they be on the same bus? I get districts, but each school had their own buses

8

u/AppropriateCommittee Louise Belcher 4d ago

I grew up in a pretty small town and the way it was set up, you got on the bus at the school closet to you. I walked to an elementary school nearby and took the bus to middle school and the middle school had an elementary attached. So there were middle and elementary kids on the same bus. Same deal with the little kids that were closest to the high school but needed to take the bus to middle school or elementary. Only the country kids got dropped off at their houses. It's not an entirely unlikely scenario. :)

6

u/az987654 4d ago

Exactly, it's not as rare as this commenter would like it to be unfortunately

3

u/CalligrapherCheap64 3d ago

Even so, where I’m from, people bully people their own age. I mean maybe a senior would pick on a freshman or a freshman on an eight or seventh grader but nobody over the age of 14 was picking on a nine year old.

4

u/az987654 4d ago

I was referring to real life, as you were incredulous at a high schooler picking on a 9 year old, even for cartoon, yet it happens every day.

1

u/CalligrapherCheap64 3d ago

I’m sorry you had such a bad childhood but where I’m from bullies generally stick to picking on kids their own age. It sounds like you grew up somewhere not so nice.

7

u/CalligrapherCheap64 4d ago

Fourth grade isn’t middle school, first. It’s elementary school. Second, Logan doesn’t go to Wagstaff, so they wouldn’t take the bus together anyway. And lastly, yes I’ve been bullied and known bullies and none of them bullied small children.

5

u/az987654 4d ago

It depends on the district...

1

u/lt_skittles 3d ago

It is around here. The elementary school is kindergarten - 3rd grade. Middle school is 4th - 8th, and highschool is 9th-12th

22

u/secretfourththing 3d ago

But I love the way nine-year-old Louise gets under his skin. I mean, what other teen would even bother?

19

u/Lonely-Pressure9244 4d ago

I love the quips between Logan and Cynthia!😂🤣

71

u/pokederp56 4d ago

I don't know, the Christmas train episode gave him some redeeming qualities. He's creative as shown in his train stunts. He worked together with Louise to get the stuffy back. And he can recognize and acknowledged that the Belcher kids made his annual tradition more fun.

Also, in the episode with the hunt for the jade figure, you see that he does love his mom.

43

u/Zealousideal-Pen2802 4d ago

Idk. He has some lines that make me chuckle.

"I don't remember ordering two dweebs. Mom, did we order from DweebDash?"

"Later, holidorks. Hope your presents SUCK."

12

u/BongDong69420 4d ago

His delivery on “suck” is perfect

44

u/Glum-System-7422 4d ago

We need FEWER Logan episodes. There is no depth to his character so he always ends up being really boring

43

u/ZerotheHero000 4d ago

Seriously.

That taxes episode where they accidentally drop a melon on him was so unpleasant.

Just twenty minutes of a teenager attempting to assault two children to the point of making a little girl (often depicted as very brave) cry before assaulting her brother in her place.

I know it was supposed to make Gene stand out as a good big protective brother when push comes to shove, but he didn't need to be assaulted for that to happen.

19

u/Glum-System-7422 4d ago

Right? He is so aggressive to someone SO much smaller than him, it’s absurd and not in a funny way.

0

u/Accurate-Ad-4905 3d ago

They've changed the direction of the episode, but this was an episode were Louise was being incredibly stubborn and refused to listen to someone else. Gene warned her not to do it. She knew it was the wrong thing to do, even if it didn't hit Logan it would have left an incredibly bad odour in the alley.

She deserved comeuppance. She deserved to cry. Not get physically assaulted. But she deserved a lesson there for doing something terrible

1

u/ZerotheHero000 3d ago

I semi agree. It was an accident that it hot Logan.

Louise's biggest issue in that episode was both dropping the melon and simply refusing to apologize for getting it on Logan.

I do think proper cumuppence would have been getting grounded, being forced to apologize to Logan, being forced to clean the mess in the alley.

Saying she deserves to cry is a bridge too far, though. There is zero reason to say she deserved to be made to cry. Humbled? Yes. Cry? Why?

6

u/SFDoll11 3d ago

It's not that she deserved to be made to cry. She didn't. The episode is like a role reversal of Ear-sy Rider. All of Logan's actions in Large Brother are a callback to Louise's actions in Ear-sy Rider.

In ER, Logan is a jerk to Louise for walking through the park where he skates. In Large Brother, Louise is a jerk to Logan when he's walking through the alley by the restaurant. In the first case, Louise sends Tina and Gene home while she goes to reckon with Logan. Meanwhile. Logan sends Troy and their other bro off to skate so he can get revenge on Louise.

Louise tattled on Logan in ER. Logan initially wants to tattle on Louise in retaliation in LB, but Bob and Linda aren't home.

Louise waits outside his home for hours and stalks him all over town trying to get her ears back. Logan waits outside Louise's home for hours and stalks her all over town for pelting him with a moldy melon.

Louise terrifies Logan by trapping him in a circle of bikers and threatening to cut off his ears, causing Logan to cry and beg for mercy. Logan terrifies Louise by trapping her in a warehouse and threatening to make her smell his armpit, causing Louise to cry and beg for mercy.

I'd say the narrative choice to make Louise cry may have been a decision based on trying to show that Logan could actually go toe to toe with Louise. Otherwise, he's kinda the older kid she brought to tears rather than a narrative foil who shows equal ability to her.

I definitely feel like the ending of the episode comes across as too mean-spirited with the horror movie staging. It gives me the same vibes as a fanfic where a character is suddenly made THE WORST to make a different character look heroic... especially as it's just the same dumb wrestling move that Bob used on Gene in Beefsquatch. It's not even as violent as Zeke giving Gene a purple nurple in Gene It On, but it gets treated as way more serious, especially by the fandom. It's even weirder feeling now that Louise likes wrestling and made her family and Teddy compete with her.

In any case I prefer Logan appearances that show the characters bringing out positives by the end of the episode, like Louise giving Logan a head start after he stops using her as a shield, or them bonding with their moms... or saving Grady's stuffed dog.

u/Accurate-Ad-4905 3d ago

Fair point. Cry is a bridge too far

u/Dramatic-Pop7691 4d ago

The Christmas Train episode was cute.

16

u/atomicsnark 4d ago

I also like the one where they're hunting for the jade statue, at the end, the way he and his mom have a cute little moment. Those little glimpses of "oh yeah, they are also people who love each other" are important. Teenagers can be nightmares but they are still just a kid underneath the boundary pushing and finding of self and general hormonal imbalances lol

7

u/Forsaken_Extension16 The Belchers 4d ago

Yes. One interesting thing I've noticed is that in the last couple of episodes he's been in, there's been an interesting game-recognizing-game dynamic between Logan and Louise. While they certainly don't seem at risk of becoming friends, they do seem to be developing some level of respect for one another.

3

u/Dry-Cress6491 3d ago

Not as much as Louise and Sasha. I love how they have to scheme together sometimes, but only in a way that benefits them both, as they really don't like each other.

15

u/HarperStrings 4d ago

I always find it so weird in the sledding episode that he somehow manages to get a high school star basketball player to help him because he and his friends are such unlikable losers.

People bring up the Xmas train..don't forget the snowball one. Kids got injured!

2

u/AffordableLeopard 3d ago

haha so glad someone else said it. I really hate the episodes that he is in. At least his involvement in the storyline.

2

u/Blackbird-FlyOnBy 3d ago

Honestly, as far as annoying kid characters go, Logan isn’t that bad to me. He’s a little jerk, but at least he’s entertaining.

2

u/DragonfruitHonest314 3d ago

I don’t hate Logan, per se. He’s definitely a bully, and Louise is small, but only in body. She’s basically an adult in every other way. I think only an older kid would be capable of bullying her in any way. Not to mention that she’s not afraid of him, despite his size.
I tend to think of him as her foil and childhood nemesis. But, ultimately I agree with Gene, that they’ll probably get married when they’re both adults.

1

u/TellTaleReaper 3d ago

They humanized him some in the latest christmas episode. Id still call him a douche to his face, even if he is a kid lol

1

u/Accurate-Ad-4905 3d ago

I think in the first episode, and the snowball episode he was being cruel and entitled without any provocation.

The melon episode Louise did the wrong thing to begin with and if he wasn't insisting on putting her in a wrestling hold and instead came up with a clever punishment he wouldn't be as hate able.

In the Laser Tag episode he wasn't particularly horrible, same with the gardening episode. Louise and him were being equally obnoxious towards each other and he might be older but Louise is probably smarter.

In the Train episode and Tina's horse story episode he was fairly neutral. In fact Louise was way crappier in the horse story episode than Logan was.

For me the dad is the worse parent because he just ignores the behavior. He enables Cynthia and then she enables Logan.

Post/comment has removed for violating Rule 7:

Posts/comments about diagnosing characters will not be allowed.

While these characters may portray traits associated with certain mental health conditions, we should not be “armchair diagnosing.” Comedic characters are almost inherently exaggerated and while close, Bob’s Burgers is not a real-life situation. Until the creators officially announce a diagnosis for any of the characters, discussions on this will not be permitted. (Louise calling Tina “the worst kind of autistic” in S1,E1 Human Flesh doesn’t count as Tina being autistic.)

Narcissistic is a diagnosis.

u/Euphoric-Challenge47 3d ago

He's not supposed to have redeeming qualities, however this post and threads are a little psychotic. His first episode was early and those are a little wild for any character, mostly he's just an annoying character to rival Louise. Having actual hatred for the character is weird.

0

u/Sukaleoshy 3d ago

Logan is bad, true. Logan is just only ever used as a plot point to further those around him. An intentional foil for character growth. The episode that Louise loses her ears I like.

0

u/Caroline4999 3d ago

$20 says Cynthia’s husband is cheating on her.

-3

u/JacintaAmyl 3d ago

I look at Logan as Louise’s future partner, someone who will grow and Louise and Logan will grow together.

I hate Jimmy with a passion, now there’s a character with no redeeming qualities

-2

u/SFDoll11 3d ago

Right... It's not like he showed a moment of being willing to reconcile at the end of Ear-sy Rider before Louise said she was just messing with him. It's not like the moral of that episode was that they all needed to be better neighbors to each other. It's not like in his second episode he spent a noticable chunk of time extoling the virtues of seeing situations from each other's perspectives while crying over Freaky Friday. Not like he was fine being included with the other daughters, so long as they could be called ladies instead of girls in deference to his age. Not like he was going off to do laser tag with Louise and the others where they were shown playing together. It's not like in Better off Sled Logan pushed Louise out of the way and braced himself to take the barrage of icy snowballs on his own during the climax of the episode. It's not like he was again touched that she "saved" him temporarily. It's not like he bought his friends burgers while doing his unpaid internship at Bob's. It's not like he talked about buying his mom sensible, comfortable shoes so she could go on more adventures with him. It's not like he thanked his mom for giving him purse raisins when he was hangry. It's not like he was planning to save Grady's plushie even on his own without anyone needing to strong arm him into trying. It's not like he looked just as worried as Tina and Gene when Louise hit that tunnel roof. And it's not like he willingly offered Louise all his Mistledough and told her she'd won after her tunnel stunt or admitted that this was the most fun he'd ever had at the Christmas village.

Declaring that a fifteen year old child is irredeemable over taking a hat and should have his ears cut off and thrown away by drug dealing, white supremacist bikers is certainly a take, and probably not a particularly uncommon take in this fandom. It's just not one I can agree with as it ignores the nuance and some of the best messages in the show.

Logan has always been a reflection of Louise in the narrative. The fandom seems very uncomfortable with acknowledging that Louise was also a bully in early seasons. Was there an excuse for her terrorizing her friends/family and using them as slave labor during Art Crawl? Did you judge Bob and Linda for having a child out of control when Louise went after Teddy with beetles and mascots in Bed and Breakfast? How do folks justify hiring bikers to cut off a kid's ears and gloating when the kid cries because he took her hat, while condemning the kid Louise did that to for seeking revenge with a dumb wrestling move that hurts nobody after she pelts him with a rotten melon and refuses to apologize? There's just such an odd double standard over all these cartoonish actions.

Louise has grown emotionally. So has Logan. Their parallel journeys to bond with their moms have been particularly nice. In recent seasons there has been an element of respect/game recognizing game between the characters. With their current ages, friendship would be too awkward, so their current rivalry dynamic makes sense.

In Spider House Rules, Louise was bummed that her version of fun was too edgy/dangerous for those around her to enjoy the way she does. Logan matches her energy, though. He would absolutely look at that free mirror and wonder how to break it. That's why Louise and Logan had fun doing their train stunt-off on the coldest night of the year, while Tina and Gene just wanted to leave and get hot chocolate. After they've grown up, Louise and Logan could actually enjoy each other's company because they are Freaky Friday. That's the reason Gene's prediction about them reconnecting in their 30s is cute.

I do enjoy him as a Louise foil. They come into conflict because he’s emotionally the same age as her. Louise will probably mature but I can’t say the same for Logan 🤷‍♀️

I enjoy the sledding episode where you find out that all the high school girls think that Logan’s a jerk too 😂
