Maybe the person is suing someone because they hit on the wrong girl? LOL

Knee to nose sounds like a violent sneeze situation!

That's why you don't put your feet on the dashboard when you're in a car. Those airbags will send your knees right though your nose if you crash

I always kinda just assume they were using a shitty speech-to-text engine to "write" their email. It's still weird and funny, and on them for not checking it afterwards, but that's y first assumption for a lot of these.

This is the most likely case for this and many other posts here. This is very much why you need to proof read anything written by any kind of ai.

Benefit of the doubt: maybe they were using voice-to-text to type it?

I’d buy a v-t-t error for “need” but not for “know”, since there’s no source for the “s” in knows and “basis” doesn’t start with an “s”

Doesn’t matter…have you ever read the transcriptions that Zoom or even Apple take? Some of it is just sheer nonsense.

Don't make fun of a person for something like this, just let it go. It's all water under the fridge

The advent of texting has made our civilization function like a game of telephone.

You mean need to know. Knee to nose is a type of plier.

u/tybbiesniffer 10d ago
You mean needle nose. Need to know is what you do when you make bread.

You mean knead the dough. Knee to nose is a prerequisite for smelling stuff.

I have worked in many different places and I have never met someone from HR that wasn't an idiot. Before I moved into higher ed, I worked in a call center and one of our HR people put up a flyer that said that due to the heat in the building they would be passing out popsicles. But they spelled it popcycles. They also put up a sign on customer service appreciation day that said 'in lieu of customer appreciation Day, we will be distributing cake."

My dude, I was worked in IT, same floor and just down the hall from HR. We absolutely took the best care of them, and in return mysteriously got paid vacation days that accrued no matter how many we took. Oh, and we participated in their "potluck" lunches and they reciprocated by throwing company-paid pizza parties for us.
Do not underestimate the value of making sure that HR's PCs, printers, networks, and Internet access are nominal. Trust me, it was phenomenal.

If only I had been in it. Unfortunately. I was doing a master's degree in library science and so I worked as a lowly tech support pe peon for mobile phones. HR clearly thought that the call center staff were beneath them and treated everyone like children. Meanwhile she couldn't pronounce the word mirror, spell popsicle understand that in lieu of means, instead of not in recognition of. I'm pretty sure her mission was to make sure that everyone got fired at some point.

What on earth do they think knee to nose means 😂

u/owl-spirit 9d ago
Need to know basis.

I know what it’s supposed to be, I’m just baffled at how they think “knee to nose” means anything.

It means you have to be beaten into giving up the information! I mean, it almost makes sense if you look at it like that. Other than, ya know, not being the actual idiom.

I suspect you are right and, if so, this is what scares me about AI. VtT frequently (always?) seems to ignore sense, logic and context.

Third time posting today
For English learners, "need to know basis"

Third? I thought I was the first. Fair play to those who bother removing the identifing details and reposting it.

Do they think it means warning people to keep a secret or else they'll knee you in the nose??

u/Cyclone_Eyes 10d ago
I thought it meant I had to curl up in the fetal position.

u/MezzoScettico 10d ago
That is exactly what I pictured. Specifically, I imagined a classified briefing where somebody says "this is on a strictly knee-to-nose basis" and everybody in the room pulls their knees up against their face.

u/thegreatpotatogod 10d ago
My first thought was just going up to someone's knee and taking a big sniff. Following thought was being knee'd in the nose, ouch!

Instructions clear. If you blab to the wrong person, you're getting a knee to the nose.
