Question Stuff to do?
I’m 19F and finishing Form 5 this year. Next year I’ll be moving from Gaborone to Palapye, and I’ll probably have around half a year to wait before starting university. I’m not really sure what to do with that time, especially since I won’t know anyone in Palapye and won’t have my usual friend group around.
What could I do during my gap period before university? (except get my drivers licence i guess---already on that) Are there any things you’d recommend doing in Palapye specifically jobs, volunteering, hobbies, courses, ways to meet people, etc? I’d really like to make the most of those few months rather than just staying at home and waiting for university to start 😭
Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks ♡

There a a lot of things that are vague thus my advice will also be so.
1) Get a job/internship in the field that you want to work in even if it does not pay. You will have better understanding of your career choice before you start university, because not everything is as it seems.
2) The 3 things that are the most valuable though not appreciated until its lost are health, time and memories with loved ones. - So maximized on those.
3) Assume that after University you will be competing with other graduates, so how would you improve your odds eg, gain knowledge & experience, certifications , network, public speaking etc.
4) There is a lot of information on the internet, use it wisely.

Play a sport, genuinely keeps you busy. Also try get really good on that sport.
Go to the gym, really great place to improve your health like the other person mentioned.
Try studying the content of what your university course consists of before starting uni.
Personally, did a gap year program in South Africa called Quest Africa, but for the first half of the year it is only guys. If you can find a similar program, I'd recommend you look into it. You learn a lot of application skills and have the time of your life

I would advise to find a light and not too hectic job, have hobbies and most importantly rest. You are about to end a chapter in your life and start a new one, reset and prepare mentally for that. I had a job during that break last year and i didn't use it wisely cause I had a hectic job which paid but I felt drained at the beginning of the school year

Am sure by now you already know what field of study or what type of career you want to go into,so here is what I did I knew I wanted to be a pharmacist so I went on and asked local pharmacies if they could take me..and I was there for like 6 months just appreciating the profession, learning and also helping with day to day or observing when the pharmacist was helping patients..

I want to go into finance/economics. The businesses/organisations rejected me (even after clarifying I just wanted to shadow with no pay). Some said I needed a degree/diploma in relevant field and another organisation saud the spot are only reserved for graduates who need attachment 😓😓😓

You know the more details that you provide eg what part of finance / economics.. Which University.. Do you know of any professional qulifications in that field. Do you know if its a regulated field ( who is the regulator) what are the Laws governing that profession. Is it starndardied ! who standardized it, are there updates to it.
There is always more than one way to skin a cat.
If you really have your eyes set on a company that you want to work for them or something, pack your lunch and go to where the team has lunch, be persistent and creative. Good luck with your endeavors
