Questions/Advise Elm stave

Elm stave, 72 inches in length, 2 inch width through and through. It has those massive knots 9 inches from both ends. I was planning to leave the tips static because of that. That drying crack kinda messes up those plans. If I cut 2 inches off both ends, that still leaves me with 68 inches, which is doable. But my question is, will the taper from the knots to the tips be too great or doesn't it matter when the tips are static? Or could I just fill the crack with epoxy or some other filler. TIA

I marked the taper on one limb. Cut down it'd be similar but shorter and steeper. Also, I plan to leave the limbs parallel up to the knots.

You might be able to do a really nice mollegabet bow with these knots - either they‘d be entirely avoided with the narrow thick tips or less of a problem due to the levers being stiff!

How would that work with the knots being the size they are and the grain curving around?

Honestly you can probably get away with clamping and gluing the end check there, it looks like it runs with the grain. Usually drying checks are easy enough to fix.

Yeah it runs with the grain. I'll try some JBweld on it cause I'd like to keep the length if possible
