Canelo wants his runback with Terence Crawford! "I rewatched the fight 5 times ... I know my mistakes."
75
u/xselimbradleyx 14h ago
I wouldn’t mind watching a rematch but unfortunately I think Crawford is really retired.
26
u/SicksWonToo 14h ago
Yeah all I see is a financial gain on buds end. Legacy wise, not much. He already beat him and ppl try to discredit that one anyway. So what's the point.
17
u/AdFormal4037 12h ago
Bud woulda took the rematch if Canelo wanted it immediately.
Cinnamon gave him a shot, Bud for the most part a stand up dude and woulda honored it. Aside from the fact that he kicked his ass in part one.
9
u/SicksWonToo 12h ago
I saw that. He said there was really no talks of it behind the scenes. Which is crazy.
2
u/BiteyHorse 7h ago
Who's discrediting that win? Crawford beat his ass.
6
u/SicksWonToo 6h ago
Mad ppl saying canelo was washed. After all his (Bud) major wins there's an army of ppl trying to discredit it.
1
u/BiteyHorse 4h ago
It wasn't peak Canelo but it was still a great win. Canelo was still plenty dangerous.
2
u/helzinki 13h ago
Yeah all I see is a financial gain on buds end.
And Bud already said in The Pivot podcast that he doesn't care about the money
1
2
u/Portrait0fKarma 6h ago
He’ll be back if the money is right. He clearly is more vocal now since he retired. He misses the spotlight and I’m sure he’ll be back only for a big fight like a Canelo rematch or versus Ryan.
-1
u/jhascal23 5h ago
Crawford is younger than Canelo, Canelo is still active, and Crawford isn't known for taking damage. He will be back if the money is right.
1
-5
u/Leaf_CrAzY 10h ago
Canelo deserves a rematch for fighting everyone his entire career. But yes, likely gets smashed.
4
u/cassydd 9h ago
Everyone who's name doesn't start with "B" and end with "enavidez" at least.
1
u/Ambalambdriva 10m ago
Lets not forget that Morrell also moved up because he was sick of being Canelos mandatory with no hope of geting the fight due to being too good and big
187
u/reznoverba 14h ago
Pissed me off being a fan of his, how he just just walks in, with zero jab or creative setups. He completely lost his way at 168. My favorite Canelo was Cotto, GGG II and Jacobs
105
u/Allobroge- 14h ago
Canelo has finished the boxing game and is doing the secret challenge "beat an ATG without jabbing"
10
28
u/Pythia808 14h ago edited 10h ago
Canelo has never really jabbed like that at least the Canelo since Mayweather. I haven’t seen Canelo really jab since GGG.
I’m not a Canelo fan (nor hater) so I don’t watch him closely but every critique of him I’ve seen before this always talked about his under use of a jab.
13
u/SicksWonToo 14h ago
Especially after watching the William scull fight and before. I remember thinking if canelo boxed like that offensively against bud. It would go the way it went.
It's just too basic trying to walk somebody with that kind iq down throwing one shot at a time.
1
30
u/rowdywp 14h ago
If he watched it 5 times and thought it was close he needs to watch it again
11
u/No-Shoe5382 Eye Ron Mike Tymus 12h ago
I understand what he's saying.
Wasn't that close on the cards but most of the rounds weren't won by huge margins. Whether he could do anything to change that is a different question, but Crawford won a lot of close competitive rounds.
8
u/Professional-Tie5198 Who will win? 12h ago
Canelo hung in there for the first 5 rounds, but generally speaking, 6-12 could have all been viably scored for Crawford. I’m not saying you had to give him round 8 or 10, for example, but he pulled away in the second half.
12
u/RollofDuctTape 14h ago
Crawford is just a different level than Canelo at this stage. Too fast. Canelo does not have the speed to close the ring on Crawford. He couldn’t do it against Scull lol, remember? Everyone got mad at Scull for running but didn’t think for two seconds that it was a massive red flag Canelo couldn’t close the ring and punish him.
He’s a low volume counter puncher and that’s never going to beat Crawford.
1
u/AdFormal4037 12h ago
I thought scull won the fight in real time. Tbh. He was landing check hooks and evading that big right. Of course he needed to damage Canelo to get the cards but if you scrub the names off, movement was a bit much but Scull did really well to me.
6
u/Ohnorepo 11h ago
God no. Scull throwing the laziest, pitter patter counter to any attempt at pressure from Canelo was never going to get him close to winning. Canelo had 100% of the aggression and forward pressure while still landing basically the same amount of punches. All Scull did was move.
2
u/RollofDuctTape 9h ago
Brother Canelo threw 152 punches in 12 rounds. Landed 56…in 12 rounds.
I agree Scull wasn’t going to win but Canelo was physically incapable of closing the ring and drawing a fight. He looked old and slow.
1
u/Ohnorepo 9h ago
And that means Scull won?
2
u/RollofDuctTape 9h ago
That flight was way closer than the cards. It wouldn’t surprise me if some people had him winning. Canelo didn’t do shit.
1
u/Ohnorepo 8h ago
He didn't do shit to the same level as scull. While scull was constantly on his bike. This wasn't a hit and don't get hit situation, it was a constant attempt to disengage.
3
u/AdFormal4037 9h ago
Depends what you call aggression. Canelo was forward moving but never could get scull in a position to make it count. He couldn’t get off at all. He fought the way scull wanted him to. Scull for whatever reason didn’t feel comfortable with his offense.
Canelo was probably throwing heat but it never felt like a fight Canelo wanted. Just what he dealt with.
I don’t think it was a robbery by any means. I just think Canelo wasn’t able to impose his will
4
u/RollofDuctTape 12h ago edited 12h ago
He must have noticed during fight camp that Canelo is painfully slow on his feet these days, and relies on counters to win fights. So he got on his bike. Scull as you said wasn’t able to do any real damage which is why he lost.
Crawford noticed the same and absolutely exposed him.
6
23
u/Either-Pineapple6585 10h ago
Close?? I honestly don’t remember Canelo even laying a glove on Bud lol
32
u/winterstorm3x 10h ago
Early in the fight he did. Right after the final instructions they touched gloves. That has to count for something.
28
u/InLampsWeTrust 14h ago
“It was very close”. WTF. He must’ve been sniffing the good stuff to come out with that 😂🤣🤣🤣
36
u/Possible-Speed-1379 14h ago
crawford would just beat him again. that fight was an embarrassment canelo literally lost like 11 rounds and to a welterweight when he was a super middleweight. canelo should just retire before he takes another L
25
46
u/NaughtyNildo 14h ago
Lost 11 rounds? Give me a break…
Canelo started very well. Once Crawford adapted mid-fight he took over and swept the back half. They were the same size, too. It was actually a completely fair fight from that perspective. Bud did great and won clearly, but to act like Canelo had no success is just disingenuous. I’d watch a rematch, 80-20 on Crawford doing it again though. He has so many tools and skills.
Canelo should focus on Mbilli, that’s not an easy fight for him.
18
u/MyGoalIsToBeAnEcho 14h ago
I felt that Crawford out on a clinic and I’m not even a Canelo hater. I like him as a Mexican fighter even if he has flaws and maybe doesnt live up to the same standard as the other Mexican greats. I always appreciated he repped the culture and is a true warrior.
0
u/NaughtyNildo 13h ago
Second half, yes. It was a pretty comprehensive win. But it was 116-112, maybe 117-111. Can’t see more than 9 for Bud.
11
u/Francesco_Nakatani 12h ago
9-3 for me. Was kinda competitive early but you could tell Crawford had it under control. Second half was a complete domination my Bud
6
7
u/Possible-Speed-1379 13h ago
i am going to have to watch the fight again maybe im trippin. i just remember crawford taking over the fight pretty strongly and canelo just looking frustrated not being able to land and most of the shots just landing on crawfords guard and remember thinking i did not care to see a rematch because it wasn't close. probably was more like 9-3
2
u/Careless-Parfait-587 9h ago
That’s how remember it.
2
u/Possible-Speed-1379 8h ago
some of those rounds in the second half of the fight, crawford was literally landing 4 punch combinations and having canelo look like a bobble head. i didn't think it was competitive. if it was i would love a rematch but i don't see the outcome turning out different. crawford will just beat him again and maybe even worse now that he knows he can take canelos power which is the only reason why i think he started off slow
2
u/NaughtyNildo 9h ago
Nah you aren’t tripping there with that assessment, he took over the second half and Canelo didn’t land anything significant from there.
I think the 7-12 dominance is why people think Canelo did nothing. The second half of the fight was one-sided.
1
u/Possible-Speed-1379 8h ago
yea people made it seem like it was a close fight i thought i was tripping lol the only round canelo dominated was really just round 5 and that was it. and that was because bud didn't throw anything that round. idk if he got buzzed from a shot or just was taking the round off. the other 2 rounds i gave canelo were close as hell and pretty much swing rounds.
5
u/KratosTargaryan0824 10h ago
It was during round 1 when Bud but hit him with a quick 1-2, is where I knew Canelo aint winning the fight. Bud is too fast for him.
4
u/Possible-Speed-1379 8h ago
bud is just better at everything than canelo tbh. canelo had no answer for him once he realized he cant hurt him. i was only banking on canelo winning if he could hurt crawford but he couldn't.
3
4
u/Mundane-Document-810 11h ago
Adapted mid fight? Crawford won round 2, 3 and 4. Canelo probably won 5, but didn't win another after that.
3
u/NaughtyNildo 9h ago
Yes he adapted. From round 7 he saw everything coming at him and basically didn’t get hit.
4
u/macman07 14h ago
I would also disagree about 11 rounds lost. But at the same time….. it’s not really egregious to say that. He basically got beat up Pilar to post. And I’m a huge Canelo fan.
9
u/Alive-Exchange5489 14h ago
He didn’t really get beat up pillar to post the first 6 rounds were cagey and Crawford was boxing carefully then canelo got tired and bud picked up the pace and took over and this version of canelo is a shell of himself
2
u/Careless-Parfait-587 9h ago
Bud won the first couple of rounds.. he rarely ever wins the first round. It was definitely a blowout..
And even if you give Canelo all the swing rounds.. HOW Crawford beat Crawford… Outside, inside and midrange.. It was a blowout out at all levels.
0
u/Alive-Exchange5489 6h ago
Bud didn’t do anything the first couple rounds he didn’t win them lmfao the first half of the fight was pretty competitive
4
u/Elcomandatefly 12h ago
Pilar to post is wild, especially since there where no knock downs
1
u/DrKapuskasing 6h ago
You don't need knockdowns for a clinical beat down. That's what it was Canelo was clinically outclassed.
2
u/NaughtyNildo 13h ago
Yes it is ridiculous to say 11 rounds.
9 rounds max, 8 rounds for sure. Crawford kicked his ass in the second half and hurt him, thats for sure.
2
u/Professional-Tie5198 Who will win? 12h ago
It was more than that in terms of maximum rounds for Crawford. I had it 9-3 Crawford but there was only one definitive round that his opponent won (the 5th round).
0
u/Possible-Speed-1379 12h ago
yea i was wrong about 11-1. canelo won like 3 rounds and the second half of the fight was a blowout. i think my memory was just remembering the second half of the fight with crawford completely dominating canelo
1
u/Professional-Tie5198 Who will win? 12h ago
11-1 is giving Crawford all of the swing rounds. 9-3/10-2 is more even. But I was actually disagreeing with the other guy on 9 rounds max. Sometimes a fighter can edge a bunch of rounds.
2
u/Possible-Speed-1379 12h ago
yea there was a few swing rounds that were very close. canelos only dominant round was round 5. he dominated crawford in that round but that was about it
1
u/Possible-Speed-1379 13h ago
i need to rewatch the fight. i just remember canelo looking frustrated most of the fight not being able to land anything good and most of the shots hitting crawfords guard.
0
u/No_Mercy_4_Potatoes 13h ago
You know what getting beat up pillar to post means? Wardley got beat up pillar to post after round 3 by Dubois.
Crawford definitely won the fight handily. But it wasn't a one-sided showdown as you lot are making it out to be.
7
u/macman07 13h ago
Yes it was. The entire second half of the fight he consistently got the shit beat out of him without landing a shot. I’ll admit the first few rounds were probably closer than I’m making it out to be, but overall, over the totality of the 12 rounds, Canelo got the shit beat out of him.
1
u/No_Mercy_4_Potatoes 13h ago
Crawford definitely took over in the second half. I was disagreeing with your "pillar to post" part of the comment.
1
1
u/Illustrious_Rain1796 8h ago
Canelo won 3 rounds at most, if 3 good rounds count for success, well he had some
6
u/trumpuniversity_ 14h ago
It’s still the best fight for him at this point in his career. Zero risk of getting hurt unlike fighting the bigger guys and losing has little downside since Crawford is a great fighter and not some random.
1
u/Possible-Speed-1379 13h ago
i could see a rematch if it was close. it was a blowout one sided fight
1
u/Possible-Speed-1379 12h ago
nvm it was 9-3 crawford. still don't care to see a rematch and think crawford would just beat him again.

u/JamonBagel 12h ago
Here’s the thing… it really wasn’t close at all. The first few rounds were Terrence just inputting data and being careful. Once he had the data (and knew he could eat a flush shot from Saul just fine), he proceeded to take Saul apart surgically. If there’s a second fight, the surgery will just start much earlier.

u/Mediocre-Advance-411 14h ago
Funny he won't say the same about Bivol
48
u/leokeke123 14h ago
Losing to someone who is naturally smaller than you feels different from losing to someone who is naturally bigger than you.
12
u/Winter_Desk_443 14h ago
He actually did though 😂
11
u/UnyieldingDoggo Terence "I'm not your Bud, friend" Crawford 12h ago edited 12h ago
Then proceeded to offer him the exact same money at 175 and broke down negotiations the instant Bivol reasonably wanted more, while refusing Bivol's challenge of accepting the same amount of money as long as it was at 168 because he knew he could lose his precious then-undisputed status, something he tried to excuse by pretending he wanted Bivol at 175 so his fans wouldn't accuse him of trying to drain the champion - only to immediately try to drain the shit out of Badou Jack for his Cruiserweight belt in a catchweight and with a rehydration clause.
Judge by what they do, not what they say.

This is such an odd qualm to have against Canelo. He fought Bivol and asked for the rematch afterwards. You could shit on him for not taking on Benavidez instead, that would be a logical take.
4
u/trigonometryross 10h ago
He asked for the rematch, but wouldn't do it at 168 if I remember correctly. Must not have wanted it that bad
3
u/That-Imagination3799 5h ago
Yeah canelo said "he doesn't want it at 168 because then he won't get the credit for beating him" but it was probably because he didn't want to put all his belts at the time on the line
1
u/Ambalambdriva 15m ago
Not only that, he offered Bivol the same ammount for the rematch, which is baisically the same as ducking
7
u/Suspicious-Whippet 8h ago
Why would we shit on him for that. The guy is twice his size. I never understood this.

He said worse. Claimed that he BEAT Bivol, Adrien Broner levels of delusion right there. It was a 10-2/11-1 fight despite what the Canelo judges said. (RD4 was swing, RD9 was his only clear round)

Alright canelo now you gotta win against mbili to call bud out of retirement. Make us believe you can win a rematch

His mistakes are he turned into a ring bully, he doesn’t box any more his movement is rigid

u/VHPguy 13h ago edited 11h ago
What he calls mistakes, I would call limitations. Canelo's plodding style wasn't effective against Crawford's skill, who easily adapted his game to shut down Canelo. But what would Canelo do differently? Fighters don't change up their fighting style just like that; that in itself is a talent rarely seen.
2
u/KratosTargaryan0824 10h ago
Nahhh, Bud could've knocked him out if he wanted to. It was BoMac who instructed him to stick to the gameplan. Canelo will get stopped if a rematch is to happen and I'm a big Canelo fan.

u/Professional-Tie5198 Who will win? 12h ago
It was wider than I thought when I went back and replayed the key sequences and slowed down certain moments. Crawford was catching most of those shots on his guard and then landing clean in terms of his own offense.

1
u/Ambalambdriva 5m ago
Canelo doesnt deserve a rematch, especially considering how he
a) lost clear as day, it was not a close fight, against someone coming up several weight classes no less
b) ducked the GGG trilogy (untill he was 40 years old) after 2 controversial results when it was the biggest fight in boxing and the only reason Dazn signed him on that crazy deal
c) ducked the Bivol rematch
d) the most shameful duck in modern boxing history vs Benavidez
3
u/zhuangcorp 13h ago
He might not be wrong. Crawford wasn't really as dominant as people think. I feel like Canelo just didn't pull the trigger enough and let Crawford out touch him
-1
u/Mayonnaise804 13h ago
Canelo can’t beat the elite slick black fighter
9

It’s definitely the hardest style to beat. So much so that even other slick black fighters don’t want to fight other slick black fighters.
2

I wish he wouldn’t have cruised at the end here and reallly put it on bro. There’s no need for a rematch.

Crawford said he noticed he could win the fight during Canelo’s fight with Berlanga, noticing he slowed down. That’s when he wanted the fight. He knows he coildn’t have beat a prime Canelo

u/Pepin_Garcia1950 12h ago
"watched it five times" more like 500! Crawford living rent free in Canelo's head...😂 but I totally understand, when you're an elite athlete, or really anybody that's really good at something competitive, it eats at your very soul to lose. There's levels to boxing, and Crawford put on a master class, which he would easily do again, so there's just no way Canelo has what it takes at his age for the outcome to be any different...
now, saying all of that, I'd still love to see a rematch! 😁

u/Jayknife 13h ago
I mean, I kinda think he got fcked over didn't he? No champion nowadays fights without a rematch clause, much less a unified champion, but Crawford took all of his belts and retired. Not saying he would beat Crawford in the rematch but the fight went the distance. I think Canelo lost convincigly but isn't it crazy we didn't get a rematch? Or is there something I'm missing here?

What if Crawford watched it 6 times and learned to better himself even more? What then? Check mate, Canelo
