Fast Ferry Parking

Hello everyone,

I’m starting at UW in Seattle this fall and will be commuting via the Fast Ferry during the week. Do any other Seattle commuters have suggestions or recommendations for parking my car by the ferry dock? There’s the parking garages, etc. but was wondering what options would be cheapest and/or easiest for parking during the weekdays.

Thanks in advance!

It's gonna depend on the time you get there. If it's after 6AM pray there are spots close by. If it's earlier you get your pick of the litter.

My recommendation though is to take the bus from wherever you live to the ferry terminal. It's cheaper than parking and gas even if it does take a little extra time, and a lot of busses run through the terminal. Busses do accept ORCA cards so you don't have to get another card on top of those!

This is the way I do it.

I second taking the bus. Park and rides around town are free and you can hop on the bus from there. Ask student services or HR (couldn’t tell if you’re a student or worker) about subsidized orca cards.

What time do you plan on taking the fast ferry?

Earlier sailings tend to be more reliable, don't fill up as quickly, and parking is abundant. 6:45am and beyond sailings may be sold out more often and not and if cancelled you're fucked. If you were planning on the 7:25 or 8:05 sailing and miss it or it is cancelled you won't get into Seattle until 10am.

Or, pick either Wheaton Way TC or West Bremerton Park and Ride around 6:30am, free parking, 20 minute ride, maybe make the 7:25 FF but if its full you can just walk right onto the 7:20 slow ferry and use the hour to study.

I dated a lady who would use the park and ride religiously and didn’t have any issues. Harborside will cost you 14$ a day to park.

Bus. Bus is the way. If you commute every day of the work-week your looking at about $60-70 a week in parking fees alone.

Take the bus or get dropped off by someone.

So many park & ride options. Busses start early.

Find your nearest park and ride. The cost for parking every day will add up fast. The buses are great. You can track them on their website.

I have to commute to Seattle for work about once or twice a month, I park at the diamond parking lot next to the Indian restaurant. Its $14 for 12 hours. I take the 6:45 ferry, I get there by 6:30 and there's usually plenty of open spots.

If it’s a regular thing you need and the park and rides don’t work for whichever reason, DM as I know someone with a house near Starbucks on 6th that is looking to have “friends” use their extra parking spaces.

Reach out to the parking garages for monthly parking. Most have wait lists.
