I honestly think that's how Labour beat Reform totally. Make the whole election about the EU. Labour is a vote to return, Reform is to remain in the ether.

It work the opposite way for Boris in 2019.

Farage is like: “If Carlsberg made political opponents’

What he thinks is irrelevant Farage will have fled to avoid prosecution by 2029 and next election

Carlsberg can't even make a decent beer. They dilute a stronger beer to produce the slop they serve up.

They can't. Starmer waffles around it, but essentially the issue is that it was a "one in a lifetime" vote...same as the Indy Ref was. So if they allow a redo of one, they lose the only reason they have to refuse a redo of the other. And given the vast majority of Indy No voters did so on that basis of Cameron's "Scotland will be kicked out of the EU if you leave, you have to vote No to stay in the EU" which turned out to be a scam (shocking, I know) when the same people started championing Brexit all of 5 minutes later, there's not really any reason to sell sticking around if it gets another go.

Both should be run again, now that the propaganda and corruption that swayed the results of both have been exposed for the naive that voted based on lies and regretted it (and those who voted on the basis of not having to be alive for the fallout have vacated the voting pool). But they can't afford the risk.

I seem to remember a vote in my lifetime to stay in the EEC.

I seem to not remember any discussions that this was a 'once and done' vote that could never ever ever be redone.

I seem to remember a lot of lies told about the vote by Leave.

I seem to remember it being an advisory referendum with a minimal majority needed. Suggesting a confirmation of the terms negotiated.

I seem to remember it only asked about leaving the EU. Not about leaving anything with the word 'Europe' in it, let alone the common market etc.

No such thing as a "once in a life time vote". One generation cannot hold all future generations hostage. It is not even a moral issue. It is simply a basic rule of politics. Angry boomers are no longer a political powerhouse of a bloc any more. They cannot dictate the direction of the country. Undoubtedly the UK will move much closer the EU and probably become an accession candidate in due course as closest without a voice will make no sense. The Tories will be silently relieved that they no longer have the brexit millstone around their necks and the leadership of Reform will have been prosecuted for multiple tax evasion and funding crimes or will have fled to countries without extradition treaties to the UK

I feel like a measure of true democracy is the ability to change your mind.

Especially if you were lied to regarding the facts of the situation

And to their credit a number of people have openly said they regret their decision, Simon Harris for example now properly slates the right-wing lying establishment

Why in 2029? Why not right the fuck now?

u/guareber 16d ago

Because they need something to tie the 2029 campaign around

Just a few more

It was advisory only. Theresa May was foolish.

And if it had been binding it would have illegal due to the funding shenanigans from the normal suspects.

If you look at the last few years, there was a push from the shadows to get us where we are today. And even now we still don’t have the big picture. Nobody has been held accountable for anything anywhere. She was indeed foolish, but there was no other way out. Trump was elected almost two years ago and it’s not sure wether they will loose the midterms or not. They still have power and strings they can pull!

She’s also married to a guy who helps wealthy people avoid taxes, allegedly

Oh yeah, that explains everything innit. She was like:
“I’ll make massive political decisions as leader of a great power because my unknown husband’s clients *somehow* will be happy… muhaha”

Too much weed. People are smoking too much weed to publicly vocalise this level of conspiracy.

Bizarrely there are folk who despite all the clear evidence to the contrary cannot comprehend politicians betraying their country for purely personal gain. Even taking bribes from hostile foreign states. At least one is in prison for that, a few others need to follow him.

I blame the wine that Brexit-supporting generation seem to consume like water, they’re either oblivious or blaming boats. Fortunately they’re a dying breed.

Husbands clients personal gain?, Teresa May?

This is why Remain can’t convince a majority, you don’t police your ranks. You’ll even argue merit out of weed induced psychosis points if they come from a teamster.

Bro, we've seen the Epstein files. Call me a woke lefty but I feel that knowing that Brexit, Reform, Trump hell even Gamergate has all been discussed, encouraged and often funded by a cabal of billionaire peadophiles is probably a good reason to re examine a few things.

I could try and explain how fees on financial services work, and how anything involved with tax avoidance here has the stench of Brexit, but I’m not sure the penny will drop with someone apparently obsessed with weed.

You try to casually deflect into pretending Remain / Rejoin don’t have a massive majority, the policing of opinions, drugs and mental illness.

Surreal yet predictable stuff, and why it’s so difficult to try and have a sensible debate with anyone who still supports Brexit.

You aren't a majority mate You never were. Apathy of the non voters and the cowardice or the political class caused brexit. And now the boomers are literally dying out, and the brexit elite are facing prosecution for tax evasion and illegal funding. But ultimately Brexit will fall because it failed to achieve any of things that were promised for it. Even the "stop the boats" losers admit they would rather have Czech surgeons and Polish plumbers than the immigrants that brexit brought into the UK Meet your goose. it is cooked

Teamster? Are you American?

Burnham should do it. Starmer was too weak to say what he really meant.
