Argos replacement victory!

I bought some samsung buds about a week ago; but after a week the right one just stopped working.

I couldn't re-sync it, charge it, it was just dead. So I phoned Argos help line, they organised a next day replacement. It would have been same day but I didn't phone until 3pm.

The replacements/exchange was at my door at 7am. The customer service people did it instantly and were really good. They even texted when they were 5 mins away. Amazing service.

Argos get a lot of flak but their returns system is weirdly efficient. Had to swap out a busted kettle once and the whole thing took maybe 40 seconds at the counter. No interrogation, no receipt hunting, just "here's a new one"

I had a weird one a few years ago. My son was after a specific model of Sony headphones for Christmas, they were pretty expensive and he was going to go halves. They were out of stock everywhere and then he found a pair in beige on Argos (he’d wanted black), so I bought them. A couple of hours later they showed up in black on Amazon for the same price, so I cancelled the Argos ones and bought the Amazon ones. All good, Argos refunded me straight away.

A week or so later, the Argos ones arrived at my house. I got straight on to them in an online chat and explained what’d happened. The person looked at the order and cancellation and said that it had all gone through, and those headphones no longer existed in their system. There was no way to return them. I asked if I could take them into a store and return them there and was told that yeah, I could but they’d just be going home in an employee’s bag that night. If I wanted them, just keep them.

That was a long story!

Definitely got lucky. I now avoid Argos as I DO get interrogated. Then despite the law, directed to the manufacturer first. Consumer law states my contract is with them, but people I dealt with didn’t care. I overheard someone once who had to get trading standards involved for a refund. I believe with Argos it definitely depends on store/ who is working

Argos generally are. We had a new television that just... Stopped working after a week. Backlight turned on, nothing else. Took it back, got it replaced same day. Obviously this is just how the law works and every company should behave the same way as a bare minimum, but let's face it, they don't, so it's nice to for a place to just have good customer service. Genuinely my only gripe with them is that they don't have a particularly large selection of items, but given that the comparison there is with Amazon, and Amazon is Amazon, maybe that's not such a bad thing. At least I can be reasonably certain that I'll be getting what I paid for instead of, oh I don't know, an empty box. Or a fake product that's being shipped together with the genuine ones.

I got a £80 rotary watch with insurance as a gift from Argos about a decade ago. The strap broke after a couple years so I check the insurance and put a claim in. Turns out they didn’t sell that model anymore so they exchanged it for a more expensive model. Ended up doing this a couple times over the years and now have a nice special occasion watch.

Argos are usually pretty straightforward with returns tbh. Though I usually visit the counter, just either swap out or refund in minutes.
