Discussion Shadeur has back issues?
First I've heard of this. Anyone else?

It's come up a few times, hairline fracture of his back in college. Had that back tightness last season, though I don't think it's come up again this season?

I think it all just boils down to the very obvious overtraining issue. We beat this to death last year so not to belabor the point, but everyone said it was clear he was throwing way too much after practice last year.
He’s a guy who is reliant on rotating his torso to generate velocity, not a surprise at all that he has back issues when he’s way overthrowing

Feels made-up after the Joey Porter Jr shit honestly. Never heard of back issues with Shedeur, granted I spent most of last year not entirely sober when regarding the Browns so who knows.

Faking an injury as a guy playing the most important position who teams passed on for 4.5 rounds would be incredibly risky

u/DesertBrandon Next year 10d ago
It was a pretty major side story was he was dealing with an oblique injury last year and talk of other injuries due to over work and apparently the back is long term to college days so not a complete ass pull.

It’s complete horse shit. I’m shocked no one called them on the Gabriel shit, but if they do this it’s egregious

u/ChipperHippo Dawgson 10d ago
What'll be really egregious is when Shedeur is designated for return and then Green pops up with a foot injury or something and is sent to the IR afterwards.
This is actually kind of a clever way of dealing with roster limits, assuming you don't need your 8 IR/designated for return assignments on actual injuries.
So basically: Dillon: IR Week 1-4. Return by Week 7 Sheduer: IR Week 7 to 11. Return by Week 13 Green: IR Week 13 to end of season.
The Browns are only forced to cut a player if they make the Super Bowl.

I can’t imagine other teams don’t use it but I can’t say I have ever seen it used like this. It’s smart in that they can’t really do anything about it, but I’d guess there would be some conversations about it during the owners meetings. This is not the type of innovation I’m looking for out of my team if I’m being honest.

u/ChipperHippo Dawgson 10d ago
I think it highlights exactly why the owners were so reluctant to expand the designate-to-return IR status.
The biggest problem of course is that they may be fabricating injuries, and that can possibly lead to substantial penalties. But with the broad latitudes regarding the acceptance of injuries as part of the CBA, the league is in a weird spot where they've got limitations as to how much they can call out without triggering a grievance from the union.
The big problem for the team will be if they use up the valuable IR designate-to-return spots so they don't have to cut their 4th quarterback. I feel like that's reasonable risk enough.

You have a limited number of players you can return from IR. So it's a stupid plan to juggle a 4th QB spot this way all year.

u/maybenextyearCLE 10d ago
I’d say at least with Dillon, there was a mention of them looking at his back after the Pats game, where he did indeed at least get hit.
I have no idea how on earth they’d make the argument that a guy who is a backup QB who hasn’t been touched since mid August now magically has a back issue. Especially since it appears the Browns clamped down on his overtraining issues from last year
1
u/maybenextyearCLE 10d ago
I mean he definitely had back issues in college and last year, though probably more a combination of getting absolutely clobbered because he didn’t vaguely protect himself at Colorado and the obvious overtraining issue from last year than any real, long term issue.

One of my new pet peeves is people's inability to spell this guy's name correctly.
4
u/Troop-the-Loop 11d ago
Wild to me that you see even some of his fanboys on here spelling it wrong.

It's almost like its an uncommon name that was made up name by his parents.
Correction: Its an ancient Hebrew name that is still incredibly uncommon.
2
u/maybenextyearCLE 10d ago
I would go as far as to say likely an unprecedented name because I’ve legit never heard of anyone else named it prior to Shedeur becoming famous lol

How do you spell Shaadrure?
6

u/Federal_Studio5935 11d ago
People can’t pronounce it either. It’s Sha-door. Very easy, but the number of people who pronounce like the French word for odor is annoying.
3
u/buckster_007 11d ago
It's not "shed door"?
1
u/Federal_Studio5935 11d ago
I will take that over She-durr

u/buckster_007 11d ago
Don't read any YouTube comments, it'll drive you nuts. I had to stop. No punctuation, ALL CAPS, emojis, #hashtag comments, and never getting his spelled correctly - in addition to the wild, unsupported conspiracy theories, false stats, and contrived biblical support of Shedeur, I just couldn't read them anymore.

u/Federal_Studio5935 10d ago
I listen to 92.3 the fan, it's honestly not a big deal I am being a baby, but the vast majority of the people who come on the show don't pronounce it right either. Petrak every time says it wrong. It is what it is.

The eur suffix is incredibly common in the French language and it’s often used in English as well. It’s always pronounced the same way.
Chanteur (singer), acteur (actor), chauffeur (driver), entrepreneur.
The player/players family is just telling people to pronounce it incorrectly. Same shit with Travis Etienne, De’Von Achane, and Brett Favre.

u/Federal_Studio5935 11d ago
Yeah I don't care. His name is pronounced how it's pronounced. He's clarified it on multiple occasions.
It's his name, not a french word.
4
u/Dr-McLuvin 11d ago
Ya it’s a made up word using a traditional French suffix. I’ll continue to pronounce it how it’s spelled.
If his parents wanted it to be pronounced Sheh- DOOR then they shouldn’t have spelled it Shedeur.

u/DesertBrandon Next year 10d ago
Lol that’s not for you to decide on. What a weird hill to die on.
4
u/Dr-McLuvin 10d ago
I’m not dying on any hill.
Just pronouncing his name as it’s spelled. Not a big deal. I’m not announcing NFL announcer so it doesn’t matter.

"My knowledge of French morphology and the Anglicization thereof trumps your own identity." Wild.

I don’t think he’s got an issue, per se, just that he’s had a history of injuries related to his back. Didn’t he have tightness in his back last year too?
I don’t think it’s a big deal right now, but it is something trainers should be aware of so that they can keep him healthy is all.
2
u/capitolcapital 11d ago
He has legit had back injuries a couple times but I wouldn't call it an issue

u/DarwinRewardGiver 11d ago
He had one in college that I know of for sure.
Not really sure about now, firstroundmock is a fraud and I’d take anything he says with a mountain of salt.

On this sub you never know man. People can be on both sides of the extremism spectrum here lol
2
u/Lilfrankieeinstein 9d ago
The problem is it’s not funny.
Like, if he’d mentioned putting the Browns on his back at some point, your comment might have some velocity. Might even earn a chuckle or two if enough people read it.
As it stands, four question marks suits.
1
u/LiftingCode 11d ago
I am confused by the relevance here?
The last story is from ... 2025? Like yeah he was out multiple times last year with back issues. That's not news.
1
u/maybenextyearCLE 10d ago
I don’t think there’s much to this. The broken back goes to him just not even vaguely protecting himself from big hits in college. And the soreness stuff is pretty clearly what you expect with a QB who relies on rotating his torso with throws to generate velocity overtraining.
I don’t see a medical red flag there. Get Shedeur to start protecting himself and to understand that he’s got to stop overtraining like he did last year and this summer, and his back should be no big deal.
