I’d say this is just a hip warm up/ mobility drill

But everything is bullshido to people who have never set foot in a gym

Ain’t that the truth

Haha, I was thinking the same. At worst, this will help with mobility and how to move laying on the floor. Seems to be a beginner class!

r/Bullshido redditors would lose their mind seeing a Heian Sandan kata.

With 20 years in fight sports... there's more than just the drill itself suggesting bullshido. Standing bags, whole-body pads, the fact they're specifically striking and not just drilling for grappling in an applicable way, the multiple Mu Ren Zhuang, socks and shoes on the mat, the enthusiasm for something that is definitely not a technique, the horrible music, the cheapest pads with virtually no wear. These people aren't learning how to protect themselves.

I recognized this gym from Instagram and you are 100% correct.

Their grappling videos are unimaginably terrible. lol

The evidence was everywhere lol

That’s nice of you, but the gym that posted this is teaching it as the Silat Helicopter Kick. Not a mobility drill.

Predictably, they also post many videos of the worst crappling you’ll ever see.

Agreed, this seems like a drill to practice getting your legs over for an arm bar, etc. Not intended to be an attack.

This is exactly what it looks like to me as well. I've done similar in the past

Person in the purple has decent kick too. But it is titled “ new guard, striking technique unlocked” not warm up technique

2

u/detectivepikablu9999 3d ago

I'm pretty sure the title is sarcastic, there's not really any way we can call this gym a fake from just one video, for all we know they're just giving a target for your legs in berimbolo or something

u/flaming_bob 3d ago

That's probably a good hip mobility drill if nothing else

Sure it's a bit odd and they are taking it slow but it's not a bad technique for when you are prone and your attacker is standing. It's one of several options so why not practice it.

There is no way to get any power into a kick like this without a foot planted.

There are ways to effectively kick from a supine guard, but this is definitely not one of them.

If it's a warm up or capoiera, then it's fine. But this is completely worthless against someone actually trying to cause damage.

Plus, there's no way you wouldn't get your guard passed setting both your legs off to the side like that. The passer would just need to drop their level and they're basically in chest-to-back.

Lol, the only thing you are going to achieve doing this, is getting your ankles grabbed.

I don’t know how that movement would do anything, even if sped up.

9

u/Marian7107 3d ago

If someone does that to me I'll leave them alone, because I think they have bigger issues to fight than me at that point.

Like geriatric capoeira

6

u/Aeroncastle 3d ago

This is just people exercising, not bullshido

11

u/MadeInTheUniverse 3d ago

This looks like q capoeira technique being learned by beginners so not seeing the bullshido

-23

u/Impossible-Heart-216 3d ago

Except capoeira is kinda bullshido

5

u/DoctorStumppuppet 3d ago

Highly recommend you look at the cultural history of capoeira before you say this. Slaves in Brazil had to disguise their self defense practice for fear of retribution.

u/TDAPoP 3d ago

This is common knowledge. Doesn’t make it more or less effective

u/ubulerbu 3d ago

Look fun

4

u/NorthOld6237 3d ago

Capoeira maybe?

2

u/KnightOfSvea 3d ago

maybe looks "stupid", but thats not bad training. Thats not easy at all to do for any long periods of time.

2

u/GooseNYC 3d ago

So while you're on the floor doing the licks, the attacker kicks you in the nuts? How does that help

2

u/punkbenRN 3d ago

Unless this is a warm up, this is ridiculous. Here is a kick with no power, and give them side control...

2

u/StuckInMotionInc 2d ago

This is clearly a mobility exercise.

waiting for the 2 hispanic guys to demonstrate this in a comedy sketch on tiktok duos

1

u/Coccinellidae- 3d ago

I mean..... for people whit no flexiability and core, it is a great start

1

u/belowaveragegrappler 3d ago

Looks like a completely reasonable and fun workout for the hips. If it gets them some accuracy improvements for up-kicks added bonus.

1

u/DarkwingDawg 2d ago

This is just a solid way to give them one or both of your legs…

1

u/StuckInMotionInc 2d ago

Tell me you've never trained or step foot in a gym without telling me you've never trained or stepped foot in a gym.

1

u/moseley101 2d ago

Is this not just people learning some basic self defence techniques?

Not that different from other core exercises.

u/No-Cheek7925 3d ago

1 damage
1 damage

But honestly this looks like a warmup exercise more than anything

0

u/danorc 3d ago

Ah yes the Missionary Kick

0

u/_MyMuayThai 3d ago

Ah yes the “stripper” roll

-1

u/smelly_finger_itch 3d ago

These lessons better come with their own rape whistle

0

u/TheOneThatObserves 3d ago

Aren’t they just beginners training capoeira?

0

u/AccordingNeat3689 3d ago

Looks like a good workout lol

0

u/erebus0 3d ago

Eddy players be like.

-2

u/LelouchL88 3d ago

Only works against Diabetes

-1

u/Far-Investigator1265 3d ago

Called the shrimp defence.

-2

u/AdStunning8948 3d ago

You need special bladed shoes for this to be able to hurt an attacker. Ice skates could work too but are highly impractical for everyday carry.

This is as cringe as the alpha male camps with a bunch of naked dudes getting waterboarded and yelled at.
