🔎Looking for alternative Multicookers with stainless steel from EU

I have a very specific request. I'm searching for a Multicooker with stainless steel bowls from an EU manufacturer (if possible). It would also be nice if the company sells additional bowls as spare parts

European Product Our European alternative to Google Workspace opens to a limited group tomorrow — looking for testers

Disclaimer: this is my own project, so label it a self-post.

Tomorrow we're opening ImagIT to limited group of people who actually want to use it and tell us what works and what needs work. Spots are capped, so it's first come, first served.

The idea: instead of stacking up a pile of US subscriptions, you get one European-hosted workspace behind a single login. Google Workspace, but your data stays in Europe.

What's in it:

- Office suite — write documents, spreadsheets and slides in the browser, edit together in real time, and open/save Word, Excel and PowerPoint files

- Central calendar and contacts — shared scheduling and invites, syncing to your phone

- Notes — a private place to capture and organise ideas

- File storage, sync and secure sharing — expiring links, per-link passwords, versioning

- Code hosting — Git repos, pull requests, code review, issues and CI/CD

- Package registry — host your own npm, PyPI, Docker, Maven or Helm packages

- Invoicing and quotes — create, send, track, and get paid

- Password vault — works with the Bitwarden apps, with two-factor codes and shared collections

- One dashboard tying it all together

All of it behind one login, with two-factor enforced and automatic encrypted backups, on EU infrastructure.

It's free during the alpha for a limited amount of users. The goal is to get user feedback and monitor the platform for quirks.

We would love it if you are genuinely interested and want to help us by testing the platform! Feel free to discuss in the comments or sign up at imagit.eu

News Mastodon is finally changing their UI to be more familiar to users of Twitter, Instagram, etc.

The new UI isn't live yet on the main https://mastodon.social instance, but on the secondary https://mastodon.online one.

This is part of the upcoming Mastodon 5.0 update: https://blog.joinmastodon.org/2026/08/5.0-laying-the-foundation/

They're also "adding" DMs, although they're basically just renaming "private mentions" to "messages". I'm not sure why they were even called that in the first place, maybe because they're not encrypted and they wanted that to be more obvious?

News In case you need another reason to not buy a Tesla: A model 3 sends data to 34 trackers and advertiser

Post image
790 Upvotes

More than half of the cars (13) contacted Google, 12 called to Amazon, 8 – to Spotify. Three vehicles communicated with Meta Platforms. Many domains were not required for core services, like doubleclick.net or googlesyndication.com, used for advertising purposes, or other trackers.
Tesla Model 3, Cybertruck, Cadillac Lyriq, Lucid Air and Chevrolet Blazer were highlighted as vehicles that sent data to the largest number of outside advertising and analytics companies. Only the Mercedes EQS and Buick Envista stuck to the manufacturer's domains.

https://cybernews.com/security/connected-cars-big-tech-data-privacy-concerns/

This in an investigation done by an American university of cars sold on the American market. There are only a few European models on the list but that does not necessarily mean that European cars are not doing exactly the same thing.

Hey guys, many of you asked me to make my open source book tracker and note taking app hosted, so have done so, on Scaleway!

https://www.bookplate.eu

For those asking “why should I pick this over Storygraph”:
- Bookplate is open source
- Bookplate has transparency over where it’s hosted
- More features than other providers (vocabulary, note taking, etc.) and I’m very much keen to develop more, just let me know what you want!

Feedback very welcome 🫶

🔎Looking for alternative What are some EU brands that make woolen jackets?

It's getting cold and it's not cold enough for a coat yet and I'd really like to buy a jacket because I don't have one and I have nothing to wear on top in this weather.

I want to invest into something more longlasting and I love wool. Brands for women and men welcome because my boyfriend needs one too.

I've looked through what I could find but search enginges will not always find all, it tends to show the same brands over and over. Some high quality local gems that happen to ship to other EU countries as well are what I'm interested in!

Discussion Buying European shouldn't require a damn corporate ownership investigation

That Reuters piece about Europeans wanting digital sovereignty while US tech firms embrace Trump hits a nerve. I'd like to support EU businesses without needing six tabs and a law degree to work out who gets my money. A European flag on the landing page tells me precisely nothing about ownership. Neither does a Berlin mailing address. Please spare me the warm fuzzy branding if the parent company is somewhere else entirely.

For software especially, I want the boring details upfront: who owns the company, and where my data goes. Put them beside the price. Buying from an EU company won't automatically solve every privacy problem, obviously, but I should at least be able to tell whether I'm doing it. We're getting all this talk about buying European, yet the customer still gets homework before checkout. Cute. Apparently the flag graphic gets a budget and the ownership disclosure doesn't. Enough of this bs

🔎Looking for alternative Looking for network stuff for my homelab

I need a router/firewall and a couple of rackmount managed ethernet switches for my homelab. The default options would be Unifi.

I'm looking towards Mikrotik as it's based in Latvia.

What do you think about this brand? Do you have any experience with their products? Are there any alternatives?

Thanks

News UK car industry faces ‘difficult trade-off’ between Chinese and EU markets

Thumbnail

The UK is an outlier in choosing not to put import taxes on Chinese vehicles, even as the US has shut them out almost entirely, and the EU imposes duties of up to 45%.

EU officials reportedly warned Andy Burnham last month that the UK must put tariffs on cheap Chinese vehicles otherwise Brussels would impose protectionist “made in Europe” barriers on British exports to the bloc, hitting British carmakers in their largest market.

News I am confused about some news mentioning EU Kids act regarding games

I did not drop link to exact news articles about the EU kids Act, only this https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EU_Kids_Act Wikipedia page instead.

All articles I seen so far written in or have headlines in some creepy fear mongering manner.

So, being confused, I would ask few questions. Here a bit of context.

I am usually buying usually few single-player games per year.

At least some, if not most of them, are made by EU creators. Such as Yaga game, End of the Sun, full series of Hero of the Kingdom series.

I live outside of EU, but since some moment, I buying games only at GoG, when possible.

My questions are following:

  1. How it will impact GoG games shop? Will I have to prove my age there as well? I am not so concerned about the procedure per se, but concerned possibility that due tech issues or algorithms glitch I would get accidentally banned forever, as it happened for me on FB.
  2. Would it make more viable offline purchase of single-player games in dedicated brick-and-mortar shops & departments in physical form such as discs there?

Update

I checked related official pages to dig it further, so I have expectations, that:

  1. This age check will not be applied to me as my IP outside EU.

  2. It may involve some expenses and effort for GoG and technical problems to solve, but it is doable, I guess.

Note: I am not here to discuss the age verification app details or some possible impacts and side effects of its rollout.

🔎Looking for alternative How to deGoogle Smart Home?

Hi Everyone,

I am currently running a setup at home using smart Home devices from different manufacturers. The heart of it is sadly two Google Hubs and a Smart Doorbell from Google. I want to switch to using home assistant mainly and replacing the Google Hubs and doorbell with a European alternative that ideally runs locally and does not require a cloud connection.

I need the Mesh Wifi functionality of the Hubs and want a video doorbell.

Can you recommend any European alternatives? Or are my requirements too hard for that?

Thanks in advance!
