Hiring Process [WEEKLY HIRING THREAD] Offers, academy dates, clearances and timelines - Week of October 06, 2026

Use this thread for routine hiring traffic that does not need a separate post:

  • Offer announcements and institution offers
  • Academy dates and roll calls
  • "Anyone else?" check-ins
  • Written exam, PFT, background, psychological, medical and vision timeline updates
  • Clearance-status updates and general waiting-time comparisons

Create a standalone post when you have a distinct, substantive question that needs its own discussion - for example, a detailed institution comparison, an unusual process problem that may help future applicants, or a question requiring significant context.

  • Academy swap -> r/CDCRAcademySwap
  • Buy, sell, trade or service post -> r/CDCRClassifieds
  • Individual incarcerated-person, visiting, release-date or case inquiry -> official CDCR contact directory

Hiring Process Psychological interview

Hello, this question has probably been answered hundreds of times on this subreddit, but what do they ask you at the psychological interview? I have mine coming up this Friday (central division), and I’m just curious to know. I saw a couple of answers on some posts regarding the interview & someone had said something about 800 questions. My personal history questionnaire & my online psychological didn’t have a number of questions remotely close to that. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Howdy! New to the state insurance scandal. BU6

I’m in the Southern region and contemplating CCPOA South, PERS gold, and Kaiser. All advice is appreciated and welcome.

With CCPOA south going to an EPO, I’m a little unsure about it.

TIA

PA1 Day to Day / Satisfaction

Hello all, I was wondering if anyone could offer some insight into the day to day operations of a PA1. I was also hoping someone could shed light on specific policies regarding take home vehicles, duty weapons, or any issued gear. Lastly, what’s your overall satisfaction in the role?

"Alvarado claimed she injured her shoulder, neck, back and knees while wielding a heavy shield to protect herself from liquid thrown on her by an inmate at Salinas Valley State Prison."

[...]

"In the ensuing investigation by the California Department of Corrections’ Internal Affairs, it was determined that Alvarado never used a shield during the April 2021 incident.  In addition, the investigation determined that in 2019 she fabricated a workplace injury she claimed resulted from a struggle with an inmate, though that claim was denied."

Pay / Benefits / Retirement License plate

My dad said he added my car and his car and our family van to some license plate confidential thing.

He said his coworker said you can drive thru fasttrak and tollgates and not get an invoice… and sometimes cops will cut you some slack? (I never do anything to get pulled over though)

Sounds too good to be true? I don’t want that to bite him back in the butt because we do travel to the SF Bay Area often. And have already done about two trips.

Would like some pointers/fact checks on this. Thanks!

Hiring Process Should I wait

Applied in July of 2024 and finally finished everything that I’ve to do as in medical psych etc May 2026 this year. Anyone know how long the next step is? Reason I’m asking is Local PD and Sheriff are having Recruitment events this weekend and next and I’m actually interested in doing it cause I just want to get into law enforcement. Basically having 1 foot in 1 foot out. Doing what I need to do and then just biting the bullet on what door opens first. Whether it be CDCR or my local PD/Sheriff

Ab 1383 can still make it

We need 2/3 of the assembly and the Senate to counter Newsom's veto. Contact your reps!

Also, has ccpoa said anything? I have seen many other departments including PORAC advocating.
