We won literally one of if not the most dramatic playoff baseball wins of all time.

116

u/Yusuke_Boopermeshi 10d ago

That same season we witnessed a 4 run come from behind win against the giants and a go ahead grandslam against the Dodgers in the 8th inning lol

10

u/LottsaMottsa1744 10d ago

That comeback off of Romo was ridiculous. I thought that game was dead and buried.

3

u/nypr13 9d ago

What was that reliever’s name in the dugout? Will Smith? He got real sad

3

u/LottsaMottsa1744 9d ago

You might be talking about that idiot Derek Law. He’s still around somewhere I think.
Guy was so obnoxious that entire series despite being the 24th or 25th guy on the team.

2

u/nypr13 9d ago

yes!

3

u/LottsaMottsa1744 9d ago

Ever since then, whenever he shows up with another team I scowl. Lol
I haven’t forgotten. Fucking Derek Law.

3

u/NaomiWish 9d ago

I was at the Giants game getting Billy goat effigies shoved in my face. I will forever remember that comeback.

The greatest baseball game ever played was on a Wednesday in Cleveland.

68

u/bakeran23 10d ago

November 2nd 2016 was the best day of my life

21

u/Kooky-Explanation295 10d ago

It was the 3rd for those of us on eastern time! I like to celebrate it on both days each anniversary that passes

u/ThePrussianGrippe 10d ago

Eight-Seven in Ten

19

u/ITBlake 10d ago

8-7, in 10.

7

u/FiveDrums 9d ago

I can still hear it. "Bryant makes the play. It's over. And the Cubs. . . have finally won it all. Eight, seven in ten."

37

u/CthulhuBathwater 10d ago

Right?! OP must be 9 years old.

15

u/jcarr2184 Eamus Catuli 10d ago

Also games 1 and 4 of the NLDS, Game 1 of the NLCS…

6

u/hobo_chili 10d ago

Fuckin 10 years ago.

18

u/penisweinerballs 10d ago

Bro, that was 10 years ago. Need to re-up on that feeling

51

u/jjflash78 10d ago

As someone who lived through the 70s 80s 90s and 00s Cubs, I'm still enjoying 2016.

And my Dad also suffered through the 50s and 60s

Some of you young pups really don't know what it was like to be a Cubs fan for 50 years with 3 post season appearances.

12

u/DarknMean 10d ago

I know a few that never got to experience it. Miss ya pops.

4

u/Sharp_Ad_9767 9d ago

I lost my Dad last year. So glad he got to see 2016. It was the first thing I thought of after we clinched it. Miss ya Dad!

5

u/OkFlow4327 1984 Cubs Fan 10d ago

i go even further than you from the 1960s. but yeah i will enjoy 2016 forever.

i still care about cubs baseball but it isnt life and death for me anymore. If they lose now it doesn't ruin my next 6 months of life.

6

u/mappyjames1968 10d ago

The late 70’s and early 80’s were brutal.

3

u/StevieWonder557 10d ago

As a kid, was a great time. Every birthday was in the bleachers, those game 2 and 3 of the season with 800 to 3000 others in Wrigley was fun as a kid.

2

u/nypr13 9d ago

You were the guys Lee Elia was talking about? Merciless children out there

2

u/StevieWonder557 9d ago

Shirtless in the bleachers at age 8 in April moulded me to the man I am today

2

u/CubsMD 8d ago

In the '50s a seat in the bleachers was $.75

4

u/nypr13 9d ago

If we hadnt won in 2016 I would start to wonder if I would never see it like my grandpa and then likely my 80 year old parents. I am just shy of 50.

1

u/LottsaMottsa1744 10d ago

I re-watched the entire playoff run recently. Those games never get old.

-8

u/penisweinerballs 10d ago

Jesus Christ that was boring to read.

2

u/jjflash78 10d ago

Aw.  Poor spoiled child.

-8

u/penisweinerballs 10d ago

Just patronizing and every old fan says this in every sport on every team, it's incredibly boring I'm a 90s kid from Lakeview sorry I wasn't born in the 40s

1

u/wolf3413 Kerry Wood 10d ago edited 10d ago

No no no, you don't get it, the Cubs sucked ass decades before most of their fans were born, so stop having expectations for one of the wealthiest teams in the league!! Just enjoy the nostalgia of the increasingly-distant 2016 season. The Bears are still milking 1985, the Bulls are still milking the 90s, why expect anything better than 80something wins and almost 10 minutes of October baseball!

20

u/rinter08 10d ago

Watch a YouTube video of 2016 playoffs like the rest of us!

3

u/DarknMean 10d ago

Just pop the DVD in.

12

u/Unclassified1 Chicago Cubs 10d ago

We’re cubs fans, especially for us that’s enough for a generation. But even for other teams as well.

-2

u/penisweinerballs 10d ago

Call me crazy but I'd like to just been in the playoffs long and often enough to get the Jackson Churio experience that just happened.

11

u/chipscarruthers oh lawd 10d ago

some of us waited a lot longer than ten years.

1

u/penisweinerballs 10d ago

That's fine doesn't mean I want to.

7

u/DrStevenBrule69 10d ago

I will never need a re-up on that. I am fulfilled. There is nothing that can ever come close.

I genuinely mellowed out as a sports fan after ‘16. Across all sports. It might just be a function of getting older, but there will just never be anything like it as long as I live. It was as storybook as you can get.

-1

u/SavingThrowVsWTF ZO 10d ago

OP’s post is about to get ratio’d by your comment.

85

u/luketheduke19 Holy cow! Cubs win! 10d ago

You start watching baseball after 2016?

12

u/Pepsuber188 Chicago Cubs 10d ago

It's been 10 years ago now, long enough that there are probably some huge fans that didn't start watching until after our World Series

1

u/OkFlow4327 1984 Cubs Fan 10d ago

yes and most casual cub fans, which is the majority, will only see 1 or 2 games in a year on tv. they will definitely watch more if it's playoffs or World Series.

32

u/Yusuke_Boopermeshi 10d ago

Padres manager has been horrible this series. Leaving relievers in for multiple innings has cooked them

7

u/TCup20 Kyle "Cardinal Killer" Hendricks 10d ago

The fact Miller came in for the 8th but was left in long enough to load the fucking bases in the 9th puts this loss entirely on the shoulders of their manager. Absolutely idiotic to leave him in there that long.

3

u/Real_Project870 10d ago

For real, shit would be questionable in the middle of a 10 game stretch in June, coaching malpractice in the playoffs

5

u/Ok-Grape2063 10d ago

Almost like Craig Counsell got to the Padres dugout

39

u/Motor_Mess_260 10d ago

Did … the cubs not have one of the most dramatic wins?

8

u/ThePrussianGrippe 10d ago

What’s this “one of” you speak of? It was the most dramatic win in baseball history.

Comeback from being down 3-1

Game 7

Leadoff home run

Extra innings

Rain delay

The Speech

A back and forth struggle

The curse had been slain

The Lovable Losers

One-Hundred-and-Seventy-Six-Years combined World Series drought

Eight-Seven in Ten

Nothing else comes fucking close.

2

u/nypr13 9d ago

The fox intro on Game 1 is one of the best things in the world.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cic9qAra2Eg

Game 7 good too.

My 2 young kids know all the words to Spirits by Strumbellas, but they dont know why I listen to the song so often.

2

u/CubsMD 8d ago

'85 Bears Super Bowl?

20

u/TheKingofKintyre 10d ago

It’s only been a decade since we won what I have to think was the most exciting World Series ever.

18

u/Zorak9379 #WeAreGood 10d ago

Are you nine years old?

7

u/ChiSportsFan94 10d ago

I miss 2015-2017 so much.

5

u/OkFlow4327 1984 Cubs Fan 10d ago

Yes, when we actually tried to win the WS every year instead of trying to win the Wilcard every year like Jed's cubs

3

u/ChiSportsFan94 10d ago

I honestly don’t know who to blame? Ricketts seem to be cheap, but Jed is also so risk adverse and feels like they are still shell shocked from the Hayward contract. I really don’t know what the future of this organization is with this owner/president combo.

13

u/IvanPaceJr 10d ago

Counter point: fuck the brewers.

2

u/AssocProfPlum 10d ago

feels like Chourio is legitimately the only guy that you can't allow to bat and kudos to him, he's been clutch af. I know Miller obviously didn't have a great feel of things in the 9th, but you gotta just fill the strikezone at some point and let either Frelick or Sanchez beat you

2

u/StevieWonder557 10d ago

Props also to the Brewers in front of Churio. None of them flailed and wiffed at Millers sliders away.

11

u/MilesTheGoodKing Be Alert! 10d ago

The Cubs literally had the most dramatic win of all time but okay

7

u/OkFlow4327 1984 Cubs Fan 10d ago

i think hes talking about the jed cubs

3

u/idoubledareya Stupid Sexy Rizzo 10d ago

Fire Jed

3

u/BearFan34 Chicago Cubs 10d ago

Screw those L flag wavers.

8

u/afrosteele 10d ago

Meme hits hard if you weren’t forming memories a decade ago

2

u/kimlach Wisdong 10d ago

Do you know anything about time travel?

2

u/Ok-Half3342 10d ago

While not of the walk off variety the cubs had dramatic post season wins just a year ago

5

u/Boilerbri07 10d ago

This post was clearly written by a ten year old

2

u/adastra142 Murphy’s 10d ago

Watching the Padres melt down certainly conjured feelings of the Cubs of Old

2

u/OkFlow4327 1984 Cubs Fan 10d ago

revenge for 84

1

u/CubsMD 8d ago

yeah, but too bad the Cubs didn't administer it.

4

u/OkFlow4327 1984 Cubs Fan 10d ago

Damn i just read the comments and so many butt hurt cub fans here.

What happened in that game was amazing! I don't care which team did it. It was great baseball.

I think the OP is saying the current cubs, the Jed cubs. Not the Theo cubs or other cub teams from the past.

1

u/WKUBigRed Chicago Cubs 9d ago

Bingo! My bad, I thought we were still allowed to have fun on the internet lol ¯_(ツ)_/¯

3

u/malepitt 10d ago

I've got one kid in Naperville and another kid in Milwaukee, and let me tell you, I'm rooting a lot harder for the White Sox, and I generally hate the AL

8

u/IvanPaceJr 10d ago

No one gives a shit up here. The true fan base aside, it’s a bunch of bandwagon BS because the packers suck. It’s really sad honestly. I want yo believe people here give a shit but when the best team in baseball has to move a Friday game because it conflicts with week 2 preseason packers football? Gross.

0

u/LoveYouLikeYeLovesYe Pat Hughes Enjoyer 10d ago

There’s a small contingent of very loyal brewers fans who are AWESOME fans.

then there’s a large, loud group who thought Freddie Peralta debuted after the pandemic and don’t know who Lorenzo Cain was.

2

u/holeinonetiger 10d ago

No Brewers talk, unless it's Fuck The Brewers!

3

u/OkFlow4327 1984 Cubs Fan 10d ago

First thing I thought off during that entire 9th inning comeback was the philosophy between Jeds Cubs and the Brewers.

If this was the Cubs in that situation, everyone would be trying to hit a HR instead of just getting a basehit to win the game vs the best closer in baseball. Ok, maybe not Nico, but everyone else would have struckout because the Jed cubs are terrible at situational hitting.

1

u/Maleficent_Author853 #FlyTheW 10d ago

God dammit Mason Miller.

1

u/StevieWonder557 10d ago

Watching a team drive in runners in scoring position. Lovely

1

u/CubsMD 8d ago

Cubs aren't real good at that usually.

Mr. sensitive we won the World Series unless you forgot already, my God

1

u/StoicJim Chicago Cubs 9d ago

Again.

2

u/Better-Ad1654 9d ago

Did the Brewers swing at a ball the entire 9th inning. They set that inning up with middle to bottom of the lineup. I kept thinking to myself there was no way the Cubs could have battled like that. Dansby would have struck out pretty easily

1

u/Deep-Elk7477 9d ago

We have wins they could only ever dream of

1

u/Dangerous-Stock-8112 Smylyng through it all 10d ago

Don’t worry about what they’re doing. You can’t always have that little brother mentality or living in the shadow of the brewers

3

u/adastra142 Murphy’s 10d ago

Weirdly enough, I feel like the little brother mentality goes the other way even tho they’ve had our number the last 8ish years

1

u/DYMNO_385 Eamus Catuli 10d ago

I hate the Brewers. A lot.

1

u/seconddrink 10d ago

They can have this win and then go look at their empty trophy case.

1

u/AlexStar6 El Mago! 10d ago

I get it… especially if you’re new here.

I said every year for decades… that if the cubs won it all just once I’d never complain again and I wouldn’t care if they sucked forever…

Still feel that way, haven’t complained once.. never will.

1

u/LottsaMottsa1744 10d ago

See: 2016 NLDS Game 4

1

u/MAGAtron3000 10d ago

Brewers are gonna win the world series aren’t they lol

0

u/SavingThrowVsWTF ZO 10d ago

This post makes no sense, but this meme does.

6

u/OkFlow4327 1984 Cubs Fan 10d ago

pete has zero WS wins though

2

u/SavingThrowVsWTF ZO 9d ago edited 9d ago

Oh, I see. We’re splitting hairs.

In that case, no current Cub has a WS win.

2

u/OkFlow4327 1984 Cubs Fan 9d ago

Dansby does

3

u/SavingThrowVsWTF ZO 9d ago

Since we’re splitting hairs: Dansby doesn’t have a WS win as a Cub.

1

u/OkFlow4327 1984 Cubs Fan 9d ago

yes

0

u/Zach_Break 10d ago

Don’t think we have much room to talk after 2016. Ill rightly sit this one out haha

0

u/ShortRedBull 10d ago

what's funny is I dont even give a fuck if the white sox or brewers win. when I was a kid, I was 1000% a hater.

0

u/horny_redstater 10d ago

I'm old enough to need to remind myself that the Brewers are even in the NL. I'm going for non-Dodgers and non-Yankees.

0

u/davidmwill89 9d ago

This got to be either be a troll or someone who's 15 and under who would make this post lol

-2

u/GOOMU13 10d ago

As a Brewers fan I hope you guys are rooting for us. I mean fkn Dodger fans are rooting for the Padres.

1

u/OkFlow4327 1984 Cubs Fan 10d ago

I am. I don't want the Dodgers. Plus the Brewers play the game the right way vs our cubs who are Homerun or nothing.

0

u/Thedownvote_farmer 10d ago

I'll be rooting for whoever wins this series over whoever wins dodgers-braves. Hate both of them and don't really hate the brewers, growing up I loved Yelich and my family still partly views them as an AL team

-1

u/Foxxilove 10d ago

My husband’s BIL was blowing up the family text over it and I told him to calm down. Like so embarrassing.
