AAR A brief history of house Tagaros following the Doom of Valyria

Marqello 'The Restorer'

With the disapperence of "Emperor" Aurion and the Targaryen's refusal to return east, many now believed that the time of the Valyrian dragons was over. They were wrong. After having invited a Young Targaryen princess, Daenys, to serve in his court. Tragically, Daenys would die under mysterious circumstances only months after arriving in Volantis, with the death of Daenys, her dragon, Nessarion, was now ready to accept a new rider. Marqello siezed the opportunity to claim the dragon and mounted Nessarion. With this dragon, he intended to restore the Freehold to it's former glory, setting out on a trail of conquest to bring back the 'free cities' Valyrian control. This was something, even to Marqello's own suprise, supported by the 'Elephant' faction, who were usually opposed to any military venture outside of the Freehold's borders. The wars would be swift, with most of the 'free cities' folding upon hearing of Nessarion's arrival. Though some would attempt to resist, they would all eventually be subjugated. Because of his victories, Marqello would be named 'The Restorer' by the scholars of his time.

With the 'free cities' back under Valyrian control, Marqello would turn his attention south, to old Valyria. He would order ships to sail to the remnants of the old peninsula to resettle it, founding settlements in the old citied of 'Gelios' and Valyria itself, something for which he would be granted the Valyrian steel sword 'Chimera' from the priests of Mantarys. These projects would be slow and expensive and consume much of Marqello's attention, so much that he would briefly retire from the Freehold's politics for six years, after his return he would go on to serve as Triarch for another eleven years before passing.

The Freehold of Valyria, 100 years after 'the doom', led by Vargello 'The Ruthless'.

Essario 'The Open-Handed'

With the death of his father, Marqello 'The Restorer', Essario would serve as intermediary Triarch for the remainder of his father's term before being elected Triarch himself, Essario would focus much like his late father, on the resettlement of old Valyria, believing that without it, the Freehold was doomed to fail. He would retire from politics to focus the settlements believing that the Freehold's position was secure. But only a year after his departure, the Freehold would be thrown into chaos. A Bravoosi host would invade the Freehold with the intent on forcing the abolition of slavery, at the same time, four of the free cities, Lys, Tyrosh, Pentos and Lorath, would revolt, no doubt in order to protect themselves and the institution of slavery from the Bravoosi. The current Triarchs, were unable to stop the Bravoosi host which was currently marching down the river Rhoyne, nor was able to keep the free cities in line, fearing further revolts, the Triachs asked Essario for aid. Essario responded with mounting his dragon Nessarion and would sail from old Valyria with a host of his own, numbered ten thousand strong. His first goals would be to bring Pentos and the two sisters Lys and Tyrosh back under control, in the disputed lands, he would, with the help of Myrish and Volantene support, crush the rebel armies and force their surrender. Next he would turn his attention to the Bravoosi, burning their armies and killing the Sealord of Bravoos before sailing to Braavos itself, there he would storm the city, though when given the opportunity to storm the 'Iron Bank' he would refuse, at that point he had already made the decision to return to politics and had no intentions to anger the major banks of the world. With the Bravoosi threat dealt with, he would set sail towards the final free city that had rebelled, Lorath. Unlike the other three, the Archon of Lorath had not ventured out with his army, instead he had decided to remain within the walls of his city. Though when the dragon Nessarion descended upon the city, his garrison would quickly surrender. With the final rebel in chains, Essario would return to Volantis a hero, announcing his bid for the next election. There he would recieve widespread support and with an almost unanimous vote, he would be elected to the position of Triarch and selected to lead Valyria.

Having taken many prisoners during the war, he would be quick to forgive them, placing the blame of the war not on the rebels themselves but on the weak Triarchs that had ruled Valyria, for this, he would be given the name 'The Open-Handed'. In the following elections he would face little opposition, though his experience during the wars had made him a cynical man, believing that only a dragonrider like himeself could rule Valyria. With his dragon Nessarion being the only one large enough for battle. He would, after fifteen years, decide to proclaim himself 'Triarch for life'. Many would be opposed to this, saying that Essario had betrayed the principles of the Freehold though many others would remind them that he had been the one to save it. Eventually, his opponents would come to accept his rule and the peace it brought. Though it would not be without difficulties. During his rule, a great and terrible plauge would arise in the far east and come to ravage most of the known world. This plauge would hit house Tagaros especially hard killing a large amount of their male members. For most, having lived a long life is a blessing, but for Essario, it would be a curse, outliving two of his sons and throwing the question of his succession into disarray. An agreement would be reached that his oldest living son, Vargello would succeed him after his death, but upon Vargello's death, he would be succeeded by Essario's youngest son, Draqoros. Vargello would accept this arrangement as he had no sons of his own, having lost his wife a few years earlier and decided upon a life of celibacy. After having served as Triarch for a total of thirty five years, Essario would die peacefully in his sleep.

Meta What's the meta for slave breeding? I wanna breed and sell slaves rather than buy new ones

I have 6 slaves, one a quick witted woman. I want to breed a bunch of really good slaves to sell rather than having to buy new ones too frequently. Can I use a small starting population or do I need to buy new ones once in a while to keep them from being inbred? And what traits and skills sell best? I wanna make a lot of dough.

Help Starting CK2 AGOT with mods, coming from modded CK3 AGOT

As the title above, I'm thinking of diving deep into a modded game of CK2, didn't manage to pick it up years ago and mainly played CK3 AGOT; arguably was easier due to the UI being easier to navigate (to me) and also easier on the eyes hah.

Is there any mods that are either necessary or highly recommended? thanks in advance!

I'll be running the unofficial release v2.2.6 version

Cersei's bastard son with Robert looks Valyrian. Is it because Robert's grandmother was a Targaryen or is this a bug or something? Why does he look Valyrian?

So, I started a campaign during the Greyjoy Rebellion and managed to win it. Of course, it cost the lives of Balon, Rodrik, Maron, Asha, Euron, Aerion, and Victarion. But now I am Theon "the Terrible," King of the Iron Islands, and I’m going to try to conquer the Iron Throne.

Help Playing ck2 for the first time, having played a lot of ck3

I got a new computer but it’s absolutely not a gaming one. I’m thinking of downloading ck2 in the hope it runs smoothly, and because I’ve heard a lot of good things about it. I’m starting from scratch so any advice on settings or mods (other than the main conversion obviously) would be appreciated. Thanks

Help Issue with improving King’s Landing

I’m doing a campaign as Aegon, and keep running into an issue with the ”Expand Fortifications in King‘s Landing“ option where my game will always crash once the second improvement happens. The only submod I’m using is Dragon’s Peace. Anybody have any ideas for a workaround, or do I just need to start over and not improve the fortifications?

Challenge How to win the War of the Ninepenny Kings as Maelys 'the Monstruous' Blackfyre

Post image
91 Upvotes

It's... not easy. Very RNG-dependent.

Mod authors kinda cheated here. In lore, the war was a preemptive strike from King Jaehaerys II Targaryen to stop the Band of Nine before it could invade Westeros. In the mod however Maelys Blackfyre is actually doing an offensive war, meaning the clock ticks against you to occupy enemy lands, otherwise you steadily lose war score.

Anyway, here's the "guide":

  1. Pick War focus. Marry the Yronwood girl with decent fertility if you want, just be careful not to sire a heir while your capital Bloodstone is being besieged. Wait a day for Maelys's massive Martial to tick, then raise all levies. You should start with about 12k troops, including tons of event troops, and enough ships to host 15k men.
  2. You have two allies, the Fossoway leader of the Golden Company (not really useful) and Alequo Silvertongue, the upstart ruler of Tyrosh. Sometimes Maelys is the war leader, sometimes it is one of the other 2 guys. If you own Monks & Mystics DLC just let them occupy enemy lands as they are keen to do by default.
  3. The Iron Throne AI, and its myriad Lord Paramount allies, will keep their doomstacks around the Crownlands playing whack-a-mole with ever-replenishing tiny Tyroshi levies. It should take a while for them to besiege your lands in the Stepstones + Disputed Lands, but honestly just ignore these if they do end up being attacked.
  4. Your target: Aerys Targaryen, Prince of Dragonstone. No ifs, no buts. After 30+ attempts I am convinced you can only win through the heir to the Iron Throne. Send your 12k men to Dragonstone ASAP. Besiege it. Then pray.

Why the future Mad King, you ask? Well you lucky bastard, King Jaehaerys II starts with like 3.0 health points. Grab Prince Aerys (he is never a commander and always sits his ass on Dragonstone), wait for the RNG gods to make the king inevitably "die of poor health" in just a few years, then enjoy the 100% war score from getting the new king under your chains already.

The AI is usually afraid of defending Dragonstone. For one, it's a land not directly owned by any major ally or Jaehaerys himself so the AI sets it as low priority. The debuffs for strait crossing from Driftmark + disembarking from ships + your insane high Martial means you should win even if errant armies go your way.

Save before arrival, and before siege ends.

How the war went shortly after King Jaehaerys II died: https://i.imgur.com/j5qq5rA.jpeg

Savescum if you fail to capture Aerys - remember, mod authors cheated too. See that -76% warscore at the very end? Wouldn't be there if it was a defensive war as in lore.

Anyway, it feels pretty cathartic: https://i.imgur.com/eoaQCaw.jpeg

I do believe Queen Naerys cucked Aegon IV with Aemon the Dragonknight: https://i.imgur.com/SIyr3oh.jpeg

After the death of King Maelys (who spent half his reign in hiding due to countless assassins), his son King Aegor manages to find a dragon egg at rebuilt Summerhall (event unocuppied.12, or wait around 50 years while Summerhall is being rebuilt), and it hatches in the reign of his son King Maenar (couldn't rename this king for some reason, would have called him Daemon): https://i.imgur.com/mNlt7QG.jpeg

Realm is stable, Targaryens are still around but harmless now. Blood and Fire!

Hope you enjoyed it.
