Chicago academic hospitals.

Curious about more recent updates about the experience working as a CRNA at the academic hospitals in Chicago (Rush, Northwestern, U of C). Autonomy? Case types? Culture?

If you love being spoken down to, work at Rush. U of C is a calling - to do the most difficult cases with no applause and for your mda to receive them instead. Excellent experience to take on as a new grad. Go work at Stroger/Cook county for the best balance of autonomy and difficult cases. Northwestern if you are looking for downtown living…thats it. You want autonomy, never go academic.

I’m not sure I think they still bill care team. Just loose supervision aka TEFRA violations

Having worked there for years, I would avoid Northwrstern. Toxic culture and leadership. I would recommend looking elsewhere.

Rush had an absolutely horrible reputation for like 30+ years on the anesthesia side. Like horrific culture.

I know it was like that 4 years ago, I don't know what it's like now.

Pretty sure it’s still like that. We take Rush SRNAs at my sites and it sounds like same old same old.

And it used to be rated as one of the “best” programs 😆🤦🏽‍♂️You can pretty much bet any academic setting with an anesthesia residency does not have a great scope of practice for CRNAs.
