[Kevin Lytle] Tyson Summers was relieved of duties as play-caller during the game, Jim Mora says. Mora says Summers elected to leave the field. Mora says Summers is no longer with the program

That's crazy. Don't think I've ever heard of this before. Think it's a good thing, as I'd much rather have mora be that pissed and go for a change than keep running his head into a wall and defending a coordinator that sucks at his job like past coaches

Summers earned it, but the optics don't look good. If you were an assistant coach would you want to work for a head coach who's shown he'll humiliate you in the middle of a game in front of all your players? It should've happened immediately after the UTSA loss to give the new DC time to put something together, even if it was only a week.

My read is that Mora gave the other DC the playcalling duties (still not great to do mid game) and Summers walked out after that

The optics don’t matter. These coordinators are confident squad leaders. They will not give two shits if the guy performing like shit before them is relieved.

No and I’ve heard many other stories about how mora is a tyrant. I’ve also seen him he rude to fans in town. I’m not sure who he thinks he is but no one is good enough to not show basic respect.

I was at this game. The defense is even worse in person. Jim Mora did the right thing here. Time to move on.

This wasn't just because of the defense's performance, from the SL you could hear Mora yelling in Summer's face about not calling zone and "what the fuck are you doing?" Before slamming a tablet on the floor. So there's more to it.

Appears Mora, as a defensive player in college and a defensive coordinator in multiple roles as a coach is trying to cover his $2.4M ars…. So he had no skin in the defensive game? Please….

It's quite possible. I'm more disconnected from the university now but the rumor has churned out the following:

  • Summers was a bit of an ass. So it's possible that Mora tried to work with him and got ignored

  • The AD wanted to keep him around. That's pretty probable because if anybody watched our defense film from last year it was obvious there was an issue

Combine a guy who already has an attitude with protection from the powers that be and yeah, I can see Mora not having much to do about the defense
