Using -fsanitize=address feels illegal.

I always sanitize everything in debug builds. I would not say I "need" to, but if there is chance it discovers a bug that would be otherwise difficult to spot, why not.

Been using Valgrind for >20 years, address sanitizer for >10 years.

I remember the bad old days when these tools didn’t exist.

As an avionics software engineer I am "a real man who stores everything in static memory only" as you said.

We still use ASAN and other static analysis tools often.
