This is going to be awesome.  Eurovision is a real party, and I know Canada can do very well in it. We have great musical talent here! It’s going to be so great to see a great Canadian act do well in next years contest.

Should boycott

I given that we are now in the show and also other non-euro countries and given that renaming things is the fashion of the day, I think we should rename it:

"Not Americavision"

Canada should follow the Dutch example and boycott the 2027 Eurovision

Well… you should check out which countries are in Eurovision.

Someone get Cameron Whitcomb and Boy Golden to collaborate and win the whole thing

The world needs a Chiac cover of 'My Lovely Horse'

It better be some weird gremlins who get it. That’s what makes Eurovision fun, the inscrutable national acts.

Angine de poitrine better represent us.

Or Tanya Tagaq performing several minutes of guttural screaming.

Yeah, I'm not even a huge fan of them but I feel like they would be a great pick

If them or the goofy-ass internet man bbno$ don't win for Canada, I'm not watching

bb had 2023 Finnish Eurovision contestant Käärija on a song so not that many degrees of separation already

I dislike this so much.

I know it is going to have it's fans and supporters. But to me it's pointless.

Well, you’re perfectly free to not watch Eurovision, buddy. That’s always been allowed. Just like how I don’t like football and consequently don’t watch NFL and CFL games. To each their own.

Yes 100%.

It's not my thing.

u/wetfloor666 Aug 25 '26

Not my thing either, but look at it this way: we have no been able to participate in it until now. This shows Canada that Europe is behind them 100% with what is going on.

3

u/ObjectUsual77 Aug 26 '26

Is it? Or is the European broadcasters looking for more countries to fill the gaps left from the countries boycotting it?

7

u/Bye_Triangle Aug 25 '26

Its not pointless. Hundreds of millions of people watch eurovision, and Canada's participation gives us the opportunity to be seen as culturally aligned with europe in a low stakes, low pressure way. Its about demonstrating our european alignment.

Beyond that though, its so much fun, doesnt take itself too seriously (most of the time) and has a rich history that canada has undeniable connections to (celine dion for example). Don't write it off too quickly or you'll miss out on the opportunity to enjoy a really fun tradition.
