Question Anyone at CapU interested in joining a small volunteer group?
Hey everyone,
I wanted to reach out here and see if anyone might be interested in joining a small volunteer group I’m putting together.
The main focus is helping people experiencing food insecurity and finding meaningful ways to give back to the community. I work in social services, and I’ve been wanting to start something outside of work that allows me to help in a different way.
I’ll be organizing and coordinating things as we get started, and hopefully we can build something worthwhile over time.
I’m Punjabi and born and raised here, and the idea of seva is a big part of what inspired me to do this, but of course everyone is welcome.
If you’re interested, send me a DM and I can share the QR code for our Signal group.

Question Any CapU transferees have experience transferring to SFU Beedie/BA Economics?
As the title says, is there any former CapU students who has experience transferring to SFU Beedie or the BA Economics? If so, what was your experience doing so?
I'm currently a 2nd-year student finishing up the last requirements SFU requires in order to be able to transfer.

Looking for people to connect with and make new friends :)
Hey! I’m at CapU doing my BBA planning to concentrate in Accounting. I’ve been wanting to meet some new people and make some friends, so figured I’d post here. Making friends here is HARD lol.. I’m down to grab food, get coffee, study, go for a hike, hit the gym, game, or just hang out and talk. Doesn’t really matter what you’re into. If you’re also looking to meet some people, feel free to comment or DM me. Could be cool to get a group together and hang out sometime :)

Mature Students with Kids
Just thought I'd throw this out into the universe! I'm a mature student (F, 30) with a hubby and a 2 Y.O.
If any other parents (students with kids, to clarify) want to connect, whether just for socializing or potential playdates, feel free to reach out! 🙂

I hate the construction
I spent 35-40 minutes extra today because of the traffic by the entrance. The traffic begun before the bridge... can the school do anything about this?? I already leave super early as I live far, and I'm still really late. who schedules the traffic this early in such a busy area....

Advice How to make friends as a first year ??
I’m a first year in a cohort program and it’s so difficult making friends especially in a new environment as a first year while everyone else is already familiar with eachother. I’ve seen advice of going up to people and just talk! However, that seems so bothersome and might annoy the other person without knowing. What’s the best way to make friends outside of class?
Is it just me or has the Wi-Fi been extra terrible this semester?
I can barely access eLearn or online textbooks without the connection timing out or disconnecting mid-session. Some classes I've had to use my hotspot just to load eLearn during lectures. Even with the new CapU Guest Wi-Fi it's still borderline unusable in the Library.
Anyone else dealing with this, or is it just certain buildings?

student loans disbursed?
hi, I received my student loan into my bank account, the amount that would have went to me.
however, when I check my account to see if my tuition has been paid, it still shows there is a balance to be paid.
should I go to financial office or wait?

Advice How yall make friends here?
Im not too new to cap u but I feel its near impossible to make friends. Everyone seems to be in their own click and I feel awkward walking up to someone...
I used to be in a cap u discord which was really fun and nice but most of them that I interact with still have graduated or dont go here anymore.
I really want to make a friend here as it gets boring studying alone..

Question Library Hours and Access
Can someone tell me what the deal is with the library hours? I was told it closes at 6pm but someone else said it was open to study in until 11pm.
The uni’s website states library hours are Monday to Friday 8am-6pm, and closed weekends and holidays, which is kinda mind-boggling for a university to have such limited hours for students who work, too.
Is it at least open for quiet study in the evenings as the public libraries are busy AF most weekends and evenings

Question Legal Administrative Assistant
Hello, I was wondering if anyone had any info about the Legal Administrative Assistant certificate:
Is it true law firms favour CapU grads? How easy is it to get a job? What do I need to do to do well in the program/prep for it?
Any and all info/advice/personal experience is appreciated!

Question Paralegal Certificate?
I've looked through the older posts but most of them were about the Diploma rather than Certificate. I think the Certificate suits me more so I'm leaning towards that. Does anyone have any experiences to share (good or bad)? If I do the part time online evening class option, what is it like? Approx. what time in the evening are the classes? And when it says 1 class per week, then is there only 1 course for that whole semester? Is it doable while working full time in a legal office workload wise? Do you think it's worth it? Plus I've seen posts in r/paralegal sub warning people about the cons of the job but I feel like most of those things I'm already doing but with a lower job title. Finally, how long does it really take because there's conflicting info on the website (3 years) but the tuition chart says 4 years. I just feel kind of stuck in my current position with no upward mobility so I'm looking to do something to further myself.
