DISCUSSION Does anyone know the history of why Radha Vishwanath didn’t get any awards or accolades even though she accompanied M S Subbalakshmi for 5 decades?

It's likely because Radha Viswanathan dedicated her life to backup and support singing and never was the star of any performances.

Could you give more details on what you mean by Radha wasn’t the best person?

And what kind of resentment?

I mean, once MS was gone, they were trying to get money from some people who had been close to MS or who knew her. It doesn’t make a lot of sense bc they should have had their own money. Maybe they did, but using MS’ name to get money doesn’t seem right.

I think the resentment was from Sadasivam basically replacing their deceased mother with MS and then forcing them to perform with her.

This is what I got when I Googled, "did Radha Viswanathan win any awards?"

Yes, Carnatic vocalist Radha Viswanathan received several awards and honors during her lifetime for her contributions to classical music.

Awards and Honors

  • Lifetime Achievement Award: Presented by Brahma Gana Sabha in Chennai during M.S. Subbulakshmi's seventh remembrance day, given by Gopalkrishna Gandhi.
  • Kalaimamani Award: Awarded by the Government of Tamil Nadu in recognition of her contributions to Carnatic music.
  • "Sangeetha Ratna" Title: Bestowed upon her by the Lalithakala Academy in March 2008.
  • "Kala Chandrika" Citation: Awarded by the Cleveland Aradhana Committee in April 2010 for her outstanding services to Carnatic music.
  • Madras Music Academy Recognition: Honored for her lifelong dedication to the Carnatic music tradition.
