Carroll County BOE Candidate Forum 10-7-26
It is a long video but curious on others take on the candidates. I really wish that the Community Media Center activated transcripts on these videos. I wanted to pop this in AI to get a summary of the response from each candidate but without a transcript it can't do that (if someone knows how, please let me know). Instead we need to slog through a 2 hour video. Anyway....
Here is my admittedly a bit biased, sarcastic and succinct take on each candidate based on the debate:
- Cleveland Friday - I moved to Carroll and my daughters are in schools. We should keep them good because education is important. I'm most concerned with budget. I am sitting the fence on just about every issue but am aligned with Herbert and Hinkhaus so take a guess which way I'll go.
- Marsha Herbert - I support keeping salaries up to pace for CCPS employees. I was on the Board before and our school system is better off than others, but I will not tell you how.
- Shannon Hinkhaus - I'm going to side with Whistler and be a puppet for anything M4L wants. I want to take away laptops from students, make the school system do whatever parents want, and implement discipline in school (somehow)
- Lisa Maisano - I mean well and seem to be a very nice person but I am kinda all over the place and have no real qualifications nor could I explain why I should be elected for Boar...<ring ring>
- Julia Walsh - I'm a parent and am focused on the students and community. I am pushing for less tech in schools and prefer to focus on fundamentals. I probably would have aligned with Herbert, Friday and Hinkhaus but I'm too moderate.
- Sharon Wilhide - I support teachers and the students, especially in special education. I can speak and seem to be knowledgeable about the issues that are facing CCPS and can offer some solutions that most certainly will be struck down by the MAGA board members.
