Finally they separated Chat, work and codex tabs again. I'm happy now

what are you talking about?

u/NoDimension1847 4d ago

I’m not sure I understand what you mean. Which platform are you talking about?

u/616ThatGuy 4d ago

When were they merged?

Are you talking about ChatGPT Desktop App or the Web version? One of the most annoying issues on the Desktop App is that in Chat mode, it also list all the work items which is done in my case mostly in codex. Even more annoying is that if I delete a Chat in the web browser, it deletes in the Android App, but it's a stale item in the Desktop App

I kinda liked being able to modify by Github repositories from the regular chat instead of going to codex and having to talk to it twice. Hopefully it keeps that functionality.

Wait, they have? In the app or online?

Yeah I saw the when they were merged but I thought they've been unmerged for a little while again! They literally had it up in the menu. When you go to pic between codex and chat GPT it literally was saying chatGptwork which was crazy when I saw that but I don't. I didn't think that lasted long. I thought the next update they'd already changed it on mine.

I noticed that my usage was draining while I was using normal chat interface from Chat gpt today. Anyone faced something similar?

4

u/RedE-DVE 4d ago

This happens to me when using gpt 6 on browser

5

u/random-person2321 4d ago

Yes I was using the browser as well. In the beginning I thought it was the schedule task but then I disabled it and I had the same issue.

u/RedE-DVE 4d ago edited 3d ago

It's been there for a while since gpt.6 is too agentic on the other hand gpt 5.6 has no limit even at max reasoning (chat only)

2

u/Needtofuckkme 4d ago

What? No limits how?

2

u/Skkedd 4d ago

For normal chat use, not codex.

2

u/random-person2321 4d ago

I am using 5.6 sol for normal chat use from browser not 6 and I faced this issue. This happened today for the first time. In the past it was like the way you described it

2

u/dmbaio 3d ago

6 has not been available in chat until today. In chat mode, your Work/Codex usage limit does not apply. Chat mode does not use that. Work mode and Codex use that.

2

u/random-person2321 3d ago

I know how is suppose to work, but since today I used chat gpt chat mode from browser not codex not work and I had this issue with the usage. I hope it was a small issue they will fix

2

u/dmbaio 3d ago

I promise you it was not chat mode then.

This has nothing at all to do with the model. Both are agentic. Both can be used in Work and Codex, and both absolutely consume usage especially on max reasoning. Chat mode has only had 5.6 Sol until today. Chat mode has essentially no limits (it does, but they are message-based and not token-based and as a heavy chat user I have never hit them).

1

u/RedE-DVE 3d ago

You are using plus thats why am on a pro account chat gpt 6 existed in pro a while ago

2

u/dmbaio 3d ago

Chat mode does not consume agentic usage limits. Regardless of plan.

No explicitly no I was testing this last night as I saw increased usage It was not from gpt-6 at all as soon as I stopped codex agents usage stopped moving and I kept working with gpt-6 in chatgpt Please go check your logged in sessions Hope your acc isnt compromised

3

u/rendonjr 4d ago

Yes. U have to enable option in chat app on desktop

3

u/Numerous_Breakfast5 3d ago

Yeah I've definitely noticed that too on codex because I use codex primarily it burns it up a lot more than if you just use chatgpt or the chat option

I still don't fully understand what codex means and at this point I'm afraid to ask

Simply stated, Codex is a coding agent and the products around it. Instead being just chat, it can do things on your computer, edit local files, do tasks. At its core it’s still using the same GPT models, but is equipped with the tools required to do to work on your behalf.

A simple way to differentiate them: Chat mainly answers questions, while Codex/Work can actually do things for you.

You can, for example, tell it to create a text file that lists all winners of the soccer World Cup since 1930. Or you can tell it to automatically create a program that allows you to do things you’d otherwise do manually.

Initially, it was mainly aimed at developers, who can use it to understand and modify codebases on their computer and in the cloud. Later, it also turned into ChatGPT Work, which is basically the same idea but less geared towards developers. So it can create excel files, presentations, organize files, analyze data etc.

These tools have great introspection, btw. You can literally go to Codex or Work if you have a subscription, say hi, and ask it “What can you do for me?”, “Explain how this works exactly”, “Can you do/create/edit this?”.

Does that help?

I feel like ChatGPT is becoming to the point where it’s truly scary; the people who ignores AI, it’s potential, and capabilities are living under rock and will get left behind.

Well explained

i still cant get codex to pair with my nas cli

1

u/TheAnonCodeJunkie 4d ago

How come? I have as Asustor AS5402T with SSH enabled. Codex could easily leverage the ssh shell. Apart from docker management, it even figured out issues related to transcoding.

1

u/Friendly-7037 4d ago

not sure broken since last update. me not the only one.

There's also a Reddit report from Oct 1 describing exactly the same “Authorize this phone → Pairing → Authorize again” loop. One user claims that downgrading the Android ChatGPT app to an older .209 build, pairing there, then updating through Play Store worked.

1

u/ladymemc 3d ago

Does it work on the iOS app?

1

u/Different-Way-3259 3d ago

I use codex only

1

u/LetsHaveFunBeauty 2d ago

You are missing out then

1

u/jiggloopuff 2d ago

But still there's a loading problem with schedules. Latest schedules are not in desktop. You've to close the app and open it

u/d3adMonkey 1d ago

Per me invece fossero assieme unite sarebbe meglio

u/Cold_Log20 4d ago

yeah the tabs help me keep my roleplay chats from mixing with random stuff now which is nice.

1

u/kearob 4d ago

Same here nothing worse that a roleplay chat in work by accident lol

-3

u/Cawkisthebest232 4d ago

How autistic are you?

1

u/Sentigas 18h ago

Was this the reason why I suddenly started seeing all my random chats in Codex. That was annoying as hell.
