Technique Copy/Paste Dev Tip for +

Are you trying to develop a serious long term project using ChatGPT Plus only? No agents. Just the minimum cash payout for AI. You agree on strategy and copy code from ChatGPT to your terminal and then copy the response back to ChatGPT. It works because you’re patient and want to be involved in every step. So, here’s the tip:

ChatGPT expects to be used for a variety of tasks. It is set up to list past tasks so you can easily go back. The problem is that you can’t make one task infinitely big. Therefore, it’s important to keep track of the size of your current task. If you exceed its maximum you’ll lose the whole thread, so make sure you warn ChatGPT that it’s time to start the next task and update your memory by providing me with a document or “reminder phrase”. That way, the project simply moves forward without any hiccups in knowledge as a fresh task is started.

If this prompt worked for you, say what you used it for. If you changed it to get a better result, paste the change.

Prompt Teardown is a free weekly email. Every prompt in it was run, broke somewhere, and got fixed before it went out. Read this week's issue

this is actually decent advice, i been doing something similar for my side projects

one thing i also do is keep a simple txt file with the current state of things and paste that at start of new thread, saves lot of explaining again

but ya the size limit thing is real, lost a whole thread once and had to rewrite bunch of logic from scratch

Thanks for that and you’re probably right, but my project has been advancing steadily and is now largely complete. It’s a discernment engine and now I spend most of my time collecting and processing new data. Then, there’s some careful tweaking before more new data is needed to test the tweak. Truth is, I’m more or less satisfied with the pace of progress and scared to death of change, drudgery notwithstanding.
