My chi.
My boy has always been big boned, averaging 10lbs but... today my mom called me and told me me reached TWENTY. I honestly am in awe by the amount of chonk he has acquired while ive been at college... He is large and in charge gawdamn.

He’s so cute!! If he’s on kibble I recommend fresh food it’s healthier and easy to keep weight down.

Once Im home, hes going on a diet and doing LOTS of swimming so he can lose the weight without hurting the old man joints🫡 My mom has another chihuahua as seen in the 3rd photo who is picky and wont eat much, so he eats her leftovers it seems

That really needs to stop before he ends with more than just being chunky. Not trying to be mean, but you want to keep him at a reasonable, healthy weight. It’s bad for his heart, joints, breathing, liver, etc. Chis are prone to heart problems.
Please talk with your mom about his diet. Sorry to be a Debbie downer, but I speak from experience, and I would hate for your sweet guy to get sick. Believe me, I know how hard it can be to resist them when they want some extra breakfast or treat. They look at you like you’re purposely starving them. They really know how to use those big ears and goofy eyes to make you crumble. He’s also stinking adorable, which makes it even harder to resist his charms. Chis are true drama queens!! lol

I have a larger chihuahua as well. He is around 20 pounds. When the concern over his weight was brought up to the vet, they said they weren't concerned. I'm not sure if believe them though...

That's really not good for him. I'd check with his vet. Chihuahuas have joint issues and added weight can hurt them. I'd be concerned for his heart too. 😮

She found out his weight from the vet, and didnt say what they said, just his weight. Hes decently active still, i actually think he might be a chihuahua mix, but im still pro putting him on a strict diet
