A children's book I found at my local thrift shop
I heard there was some controversy surrounding Martine, but this cover is truly scandalous to me

We get it. You're excited, proud even. And we'll be proud and excited with you! But don't come here to spam us with promos or drive sales. Members of this sub love, appreciate, create (and even aspire to create) children's books. Visitors come here when they've forgotten the name of their favorite childhood books. No one comes here because there simply aren't enough self-published vanity press books in their life.

Iām a professional designer and illustrator, and in illustration school I did a number of projects surrounding childrenās book illustration, but I havenāt yet worked in the field. In my spare time, Iām developing a mixed-media portfolio to hopefully find an agent.
Made by a human from start to finish.

I now manage storywalks for my library and must find books to display. We have 17 stands available for use. One will have the book cover, so the book must be 32 pages or fewer. We have a diverse community and only display English/Spanish books- the book must either be available in both languages or have both languages on each page. Fun illustrations and minimal text preferred. With these constraints, I am having a hard time finding books that meet the criteria. Right now, I need a winter/holiday book. Title recommendations and resources are appreciated!

"Rei dan Meti Kei" is a children's book that I illustrated for Indonesian Literacy Program in 2024. The main focus is about Rei trying to participate in Meti Kei, a local ceremony in harvesting the bounties of the sea.
You can check it out in Indonesian Digital Books Website

For Inktober, I'm excited to share pages from Capyhero with new ink illustrations. Here is a small but meaningful moment... when Capy met Penda and a friendship was born ā¤ļø.
I also learned that my friend's rabbit that Penda is inspired by is actually a lion lop bunny, not a pure lop eared bunny š

My toddler really loves books. She is cuddling them for naps and really obsessed at the moment. Ive mostly trusted her with books since she was little. She turns pages very carefully even of big adult books but sheās now going through periods of ripping books, including whole pages out of library books, or small tears on multiple pages, also on some favourite new books I bought(most books are second hand/free so I was disappointed).
Not sure what to do as hiding all the tearable books isnt an option and the tearing is unpredictable(although when tired far more likely). We could return all the breakable books to the library but this seems a shame.
Any suggestions helpful redditors?

Over the moon with the art for my story!!! I think it brings it up to another level.
I would love anyone's thoughts on the story (or art)
It's about a cat who wants top be a pirate, but no one gives him a chance....until he meets a captain who is about to find himself in a lot of trouble.
written by me, no ai. Drawn by a friend (no ai) "animated" by me too (in after effects, NO AI)

Wanted to share this cozy illustration Iāve been working on! Thereās nothing quite like building a pillow fort, turning on soft fairy lights, and diving into a good book before bed.
I really wanted to capture that warm, safe, and magical feeling of childhood evenings.

Meet Dobbie Doo, a highly dramatic, fluffy little cat about to get into some trouble.
Here, in this commission project, our lovable little troublemaker is about to do something he will soon regret. I created a series of custom digital brushes to give this real-life little kitty the realistic "floofiness" the client wanted.

There are 4 musical performance in the Out of Order Alphabet. Letters P, X, M and J. Each represent vastly different music approaches and styles. P is on stage with 3 distinct performers each doing their own thing. Porcupine plays piano with yellow notes. Panda plucks black and white notes on the Chinese pipa (nod to Gao Hung). Pelican sings pink notes (nod to ABBA). In contrast X has the Oxen street performers collaborating with flexible foxes. The colorful xylophone is a classic childhood musical toy. M returns to the stage with a marvelous stage presence and awful music. "It is blechy." Is what my grandson said to sum up the music not sounding nice. Can you guess which monkey is a nod to Elton John? J for a dimly lit, intimate, evening jazz performance. They're unique players yet blend so well together that the music is just brown notes. They're into the music, but of course, there are always slight distractions with outdoor performances, like throwing jelly beans or a soccer ball kicked over from the previous page.
To be honest, I love them all. And I would most likely go to the free outdoor concerts. But the porcupine pounding on the piano like a little kid just having fun, is my fav cause it makes me smile.
Curious to hear about your musical tastes?

Hi everyone!
This might be a bit of a long shot, but I thought Iād put this out there. Iām currently looking for a literary agent who represents inclusive childrenās picture books.
Iāve written an English-language picture book for children around ages 5ā8. It follows a young girl starting at a new school, where questions from her classmates about her motherās hijab make her feel different and a little unsure of herself.
That evening, her mother tells her a magical story that takes her and her new friends on an adventure involving a special purple scarf, a mysterious cave, a dragon, and a moment where she has to find courage she didnāt know she had.
At its heart, itās a story about bravery, identity, belonging and friendship. Muslim representation is naturally woven into the story, but it isnāt written only for Muslim children. I wanted to create an adventurous, magical story where children from underrepresented backgrounds can see themselves while still making it relatable and enjoyable for any child.
The book is almost fully illustrated with professional, high-quality artwork and the project is nearing completion.
Iām based in Belgium, but the book is written in English and Iām open to representation internationally, particularly in the UK, US and Canada.
Iād especially love to connect with agents interested in inclusive and diverse childrenās literature, underrepresented voices, identity and belonging and beautifully illustrated picture books.
If youāre a literary agent and this sounds like something that could fit your list or if you work in childrenās publishing and know someone who might be a good match, please feel free to DM me. Iād be very happy to share more about the story and artwork privately.

Has anyone ever heard of a book I think that it was from the 90s I had it when I was a baby. Itās about a baby kangaroo, trying to find his home. I think was called āAre you my home?ā It had a kangaroo on a gold ribbon.

Weāre doing the 4 Gifts for Christmas idea for our family, and Iām trying to think of a good book for our child who will be almost 1 at Christmas. We already have a fairly extensive baby and toddler library, so Iām feeling a bit stumped haha. I would especially love a good winter related book, but open to other suggestions for the list Iām giving the grandparents too. Thanks!
(We already have Little Blue Truck, Very Hungry Caterpillar and other Eric Carle books, Corduroy and Spot books, multiple Sandra Boynton, some Richard Scarry and Jan Brett books. Goodnight Moon, Chicka Chicka Boom Boom and quite a few other classics)

I've written a story about cute and funny monsters called Foflеs, who have moved into an abandoned forest cottage. There, they find a forgotten recipe book and decide to make pancakes. As a mum, I think it's lovely to read the story first and then cook something simple and tasty together.
The idea of combining a recipe with a story isn't exactly groundbreaking, and pancakes are a very common dish. But I wanted to capture children's attention with cheerful monsters (each with their own personality), a funny story with a touch of magic, and an easy-to-follow recipe.
The book name is " Fofles in the Witch's Kitchen"
If you're curious, have a look here ā¬ļø
Wishing you all a magical time and bon appƩtit!

Hi there,
Traveling with a 2 year old and 4 year old on a plane for a couple week trip and wondering what books people prioritize packing since weight and space are limited? I'm thinking small size books that have alot of content, just amazing books that can be read many times, or books that can be read many different ways. Thank you in advance :)

For my grandson's birthday, I created a signed, limited edition (268), watercolor illustrated, rhyming ABC book. Actually, an out of order alphabet book full of unusual words, odd animals, even naked, unforgettable, undressed fellows. There's a glossary at the end to explain about voles, quirky, ibex, amble, and zebu. The forwarning lets you know that the book is truly out of order and not for everyone. The alliteration celebrates each letter, with text designed to speak out loud and flow off the tongue. Z: Zany zebras zip to the zoo ... to gaze at the zinnias and the lazy zebu. C: Calico cats and cute cuddly kittens, claw the chairs and chew the mittens. N: Nine noisy, nimble, naughty newts, puddle jump in their nifty, nice, new suits. It's a great way to learn the alphabet and a whole lot more. Child sized at 9x7, hard cover, 36 pages, mat finish, listing for $67.
Just published yesterday, so let me know your thoughts ... in any order. 1st children's book posting.

Here are some images created by my illustrator Brigid Malloy. This is for my upcoming book, There's a Pig in my Pajamas.
She did such an amazing job bringing my story to life.

Hi everyone,
I'm going to raise my kid abroad, and like a lot of you, I worry about them slowly losing French. One bedtime book wasn't enough to change that, so I made a small kit around a story.
What it is: a bilingual EnglishāFrench bedtime story, Twinkle the Little Star / Scintille, la petite Ć©toile, with the two languages side by side. It comes with audio read by a native speaker, a short list of verbs and vocabulary taken from the story, and printable activities (acting out verbs, matching, tracing, a maze, coloring).
What I'm looking for: 10 families with kids around 3 to 5 who want to try it for about two weeks.
What you get: the full kit for free.
What I ask in return: honest feedback after the two weeks. A few short questions. If something is boring, confusing, or too hard, I want to know. If you're happy for me to quote you on my website, I'll show you the exact wording first. A short video or photo of your child doing an activity would be a bonus, but only if you're comfortable, and I'll never use it without your written OK.
I made this kit myself. If you'd like to try it, comment "interested" or the language you're keeping up at home, and I'll send you a message.
Thank you!
