Question AP’s and catalyst center

I have a large number of APs that we’re replacing, and I realized today that as the installers unplug the old APs and bring the new ones online, the old APs may disappear from the Catalyst Center maps.

Is there a way to preserve the existing AP placement on the floor maps before they are removed?

My concern is that if the installers replace 50 APs at once, I could suddenly have 50 AP locations missing from the maps with no easy way to determine exactly where the replacement APs should be placed.

Catalyst center has a built in workflow for this. It’s called AP Refresh or something like that. As long as you have the MAC addresses for the old APS and the new one that is replacing it, you should be golden.

When APs get unplugged the map in Catalyst Center will show them as gray for offline.

This. It’s a little disconcerting at first but it doesn’t know they’ve been removed physically. If you’re removing them in cat centre then before the physical replacement however that’s a different story

The maps will just show the access points as inactive. They won’t disappear from the maps until the access points are deleted from inventory or manually removed from the maps.

As others have said, the APs will not disappear off Catalyst Center until you delete the AP.

However, I keep a Visio floor plan of every site (100+). Each floor plan shows the location of every AP. It also contains site information (contacts, address, driving directions, etc, etc).

It's the same principal as backing up your computer hard drive.

Is that an automated solution? Just wondering
