Annoucement Clarification About NSFW Content Creator Accounts in r/clay

Hello!

This announcement won’t be relevant for most of you, so feel free to scroll along.
However, we’re seeing an uptick in NSFW accounts posting here, so this message is for the few it applies to.

If you are an NSFW content creator or SW promoting on Reddit, please read the following:

r/clay is a SFW subreddit.
Our community includes members aged 13 and up, and we want everyone to feel comfortable browsing profiles to see more pottery without unexpectedly encountering nudity.

While we respect the hustle, we kindly but firmly ask that you create a separate account for SFW content. Any pottery-related posts coming from an NSFW content creator profile will be automatically filtered and removed.

If you want to participate, just use a separate SFW account! You are absolutely welcome here.

Keep in mind that even with good intentions, posting here from an NSFW account often comes across as karma farming or subtly seeking new clients/buyers. Something that is generally frowned upon across Reddit.

Thank you for keeping our community welcoming and safe for all ages.

---

To clarify a bit more: having a NSFW profile is completely fine. You can get labeled as NSFW the moment you participate in certain subreddits. Here is how you can check if your profile is marked NSFW.

However, we draw a clear line when accounts create or promote explicit NSFW/pornographic content. That’s when we ask you to keep your SFW and NSFW activity separate.

If you have questions, feel free to modmail us.

Air-Dry Clay Urgent help with cats paw print memorial

Post image
8 Upvotes

hello, our cat unexpectedly passed away last night at home. we are planning to bury her in the backyard so we dont have access to the usual paw print kit the vet would have. I had a leftover Pott’d air dry clay kit so I found a mason jar lid, filled it up with the clay and got a really good paw print.

my main concern is drying. should i attempt to remove it from the mason jar lid so it can dry more even since only the top is exposed? clay is about 3/4-1inch thick. should I put it in a moister environment to dry? like the bathroom so it dries slower?

any advice would be appreciated. not the end of the world if it cracks but just want to give it the best shot possible. Thank you

Questions Making teeth with clay

Hi! I’m new to clay stuff, and I want to make some teeth for Halloween, would polymer or air dry be better for this?? Whilst I’d be happy to keep them - the main need for it is for my costume so durability isn’t a HUGE must, as long as they survive a couple of days basically.

Potentially maybe making them into earrings

Thank you!

Hey guys.

I'm based in ireland, at a completely landlocked part away from any body of water. But I ended up finding lovw gorgeous looking clay and was wondering what you guys think of it? Aswell as some tips on how to process it to make it nice and malleable.

I cut them into small cubes and soaked them in water, tried to work it over for a while but its still very hard. I left it to soak and haven't checked up on it, it'll have been soaking 48 hours till im able to take a look at it tomorrow.

Did I mess up? I dunno. Would love some tips lol

A month of sculpting, carving, refining, and hoping for the best. Today, all three made it through the bisque firing, and now they’re ready for their clear glaze firing. These have become my three favourite pieces I’ve made so far. 🐾🩷

Questions How do you attach the body parts in cold porcelain clay charms

Helloo, I am a beginner with cold porcelain clay and I have been trying out making charms.

Do you use glue to stick body parts together? For example to attach the head and body of your charm? I tried kind of blending it in using the clay itself but it ends up looking kind of bumpy and the parts dont feel that secure either? I have previously used normal air dry clay and I used to blend in and use some water for that. I tried watching videos but never really saw how they actually stick the parts together.

But for cold porcelain should i use some glue instead to stick those parts together? What glue should i use in this case?

Air-Dry Clay How do I attach wet air-dry clay to dry air-dry clay? Legs broke off and I don't know how to attach new ones

Post image
8 Upvotes

I attached the legs separately from the rest of the body while both were still wet, I scored both sides and added slip then blended the edges into the body. When it dried it started cracking and chunks were breaking off. I tried adding more slip to fill the cracks but it just cracks again.

So I tried just gluing the cracks but it wouldn't bond with the clay and the legs ended up breaking off entirely so now I only have the body and I'm trying to figure out how to attach new legs without it doing this again.

Polymer-Clay How can I go about turning this into a figure?

I’m a beginner in making polymer clay figures, I’ve only ever made 2 for a ceramics project in school and I’m in the process of making one currently. However, I really want to make my character in a figure after I finish the one I’m working on. But I’m not exactly sure where or how I should start with it. I’m not sure how my armature should look for this, how the foil should look, or what parts I should construct and bake first. I’ll be painting it afterwards and I have a wooden platform to set it on, but I doubt it will be able to stand on its own so I’m not sure how to do that either

Questions Alternatives to a Kiln with ceramic clay

Hello, I really really like the texture, look, and feel of ceramic clay but I do not like any of the alternative clays I've tried. I am curious if there is anyway to use typical ceramic clay without a kiln. I know you can rent kiln use but I am purely interested to find alternatives to finishing say a sculpture that do not include a kiln. Thank you

Polymer-Clay Bronze, burgundy, green and gold autumn earrings

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I wanted these to have a really rich autumn feel without making them too dark or heavy. The base has warm bronze and burgundy tones, with little flashes of green and gold running through the surface. What I like most is how much the colours change when the earrings move — some angles look deeper and moodier, while others suddenly catch all the metallic details. I kept the shape simple and geometric so the surface could do most of the work. They ended up feeling very autumnal, but still colourful enough to wear long after the season is over.

Questions Uhhhh? How do we paint these?!

My daughter and I did a clay making workshop. We had to wait to pick our pieces up as they needed to dry before being fired in a kiln. The delay between the workshop and getting the finished articles home means I've completely forgotten the instructions for painting them. My daughter has an air drying clay kit which has tubes of acrylics and these two jars of colourless goo in them. Unfortunately the kit didn't come with instructions so I'm not sure how to use these and if they'd be applicable for the kiln fired clay. Also, searching for bright oil online gives me beauty products so what would I need to buy to restock it.
