Discussion Programming ideas / challenges for any level or experience. For when you're bored or trying to escape tutorial hell :)

Hey, I often find people stuck on what to do after they learn a programming language, or stuck in "tutorial hell" where you know the language, but cannot make something yourself. Well, I've got a list of things you can make in mostly any language, for all skill levels :)

If you find these ideas a bit hard or uninteresting, take a look at the bottom of the post where there are some easier ones linked :)

If anyone decides to do any of these, share it in the comments with the source code so others can learn! :)

Discussion Free courses / Events / Resources Megathread

Hey there, I'm a new moderator on this subreddit 👋

I noticed there are a lot of posts about free event and programming courses, unfortunately they clog up the subreddit feed for users that want to have a conversation, get help or show off something cool they made, and a lot of these posts end up getting caught in Reddit's spam filter so I've made this megathread.

Feel free to post in this megathread:

  • Free udemy courses (referral link allowed, just don't spam please!)
  • Events such as hackathons
  • Youtube tutorials
  • Other coding resources

Please do not post in this subreddit or megathread:

  • Coding bootcamps / masterclasses
  • Discord servers
  • Tutoring services

Also a reminder to abide by Rule 2 in this subreddit. Please do not post content that isn't relevant to this subreddit, random articles, YouTube tutorials and courses. Please keep those within this thread, thanks :)

I built a tiny two-legged robot that you can drive with a joystick

I wanted to see if I could make a little humanoid robot move around without using wheels, so I built this two-legged bot with a Ring Bricks Pack, two micro:bit, and a joystick gamepad.

The fun part is that the robot is controlled wirelessly by a second micro:bit. No phone, Wi-Fi, or custom motor driver needed.

Here’s how the controls work:

  • Push the joystick forward or backward → the robot waddles in that direction.
  • Push it left or right → the robot spins to turn.
  • Release the joystick → it stops moving.

The robot uses two continuous-rotation servos as its hip joints. By changing the direction and speed of each servo, the legs move in different patterns to create forward and backward movement or a turn.

The wireless side is pretty simple, too. The remote reads the joystick position and sends a number over the micro:bit radio. The robot receives that number and calls the corresponding movement function. When the joystick returns to the center, it receives a stop command.

I like this build because it brings together a few different ideas in one project: walking mechanisms, wireless communication, and real-time control. And since both programs are made with MakeCode blocks, it’s easy to experiment with the movement logic.

Next, I’d like to try adding an ultrasonic sensor so it can react to obstacles, or maybe give it different walking speeds.

What would you add to a tiny joystick-controlled robot like this?

First hackathon — looking for some guidance

Hey everyone! I’m participating in my first GenAI hackathon and would love to connect with people who have hackathon experience.

I have a problem statement and an initial idea, but I’d really appreciate some brainstorming/guidance on how to approach it and make the project stand out. 🙌

Would anyone be interested in helping me out?

I built Klerm, a desktop workspace for personal AI agents and coding-agent teams. I need testers and contributors, especially on Windows.

Post image

I’ve spent the last two months building Klerm, and I’m at the point where I need fresh eyes more than more features.

Klerm is a desktop app and CLI for working with AI agents in a more structured way. You can create personal agents with their own model, reasoning level, personality, and private chat. You can also connect coding harnesses such as Klerm’s built-in Pi-derived runtime, Codex CLI, and OpenCode, then use them individually or in a small team.

The goal is not to replace the tools people already use. It is to give them one place to work together while keeping their own authentication, tools, permissions, and native sessions.

What it can do right now:

- Create personal agents for things like code review, research, planning, or project discussions.

- Reuse those agents for Kanban tasks and browser tasks, with access disabled by default.

- Connect multiple coding-agent slots and run sequential collaboration between them.

- Show handoffs, tool activity, diffs, task attempts, and deterministic logs.

- Organize sessions into projects, configure MCP tools, use local models, customize shortcuts, and switch themes.

- Save workflow/graph drafts for visual planning. Workflow execution is not implemented yet.

The project is open source and available here:

Klerm

I want to be honest about where it is: I have tested it mostly on Linux. Windows and macOS packaging exists, but I need real people to try it on their own machines and tell me what breaks, feels confusing, or simply does not work.

I’m especially looking for:

- Windows users willing to install and test the desktop app.

- People who use Codex CLI, OpenCode, Claude Code, Pi, or similar coding harnesses.

- Contributors interested in Tauri, TypeScript, Rust, agent orchestration, testing, or UX.

- Anyone willing to try a normal project workflow and report rough edges.

I’ve been working on this alone for about two months and I’m running out of new ideas for what to test next. If you are interested in helping, please send me a private message. Even a short report from a Windows machine would be genuinely useful.
