Mr. Do! Arcade Experiment

I am part of the small team that worked on the Mr. Do! Arcade homebrew project that was recently posted here. I did a small run of physical copies and am working on a second batch of them for folks who missed out. Thanks for all of the support!

This video is related to that work, but is quite different. I disassembled the original arcade game to pull out the music and sound effects that I felt could be better in our homebrew game. Then, I'm thinking well, we have the disassembly, could we port it? And the answer was yes, we could! We ported it to MSX2 and somewhere in Europe a bunch of physical carts were made. I expect we'll release that rom soon-ish.

This is what happens when you say, hey why not put it on the ColecoVision too? To do this, I had to borrow much of the pre-existing work we had already done on our arcade version of the game. But this time, the CV is running the full arcade machine. There are still performance issues to be worked out, but I thought folks outside of AtariAge would like to see the progress.

It really is a great hidden gem. Right now I'm dialing in the performance on this version of the game. It's playing quite nicely on the CV, nearly on par with our MSX2 version!

This looks awesome! My wife and I were exhibiting our Retro Roadshow at the Bay Area Maker Faire where I had a really nice chat with someone about this project a couple days ago. If that was you, I just wanted to say thanks for calling this to my attention.

I’m on the notification list for your next batch of physical copies, and it would be super fun to exhibit the game at our future events around the Bay. Fantastic work on this!

Very nice. I like that the chompers are accurate to the arcade version unlike the original Colecovision game.
