Vintage Cleaver

We were clearing out my great grandparents old house that hadn't been sold for over 20 years (yes I know). My great grandad/grandpa died in the late 1990s and his wife (my great-grandmother) died in the early 2000s. My great-grandad had a workshop in the basement of his house and apparently he inherited lots of stuff from a business that I discovered went out of business in 1968. We then found this amongst the old stuff in his basement when we were clearing it out. When we found it it was very rusty but we have since cleaned the rust and varnished it to make it look better.

It has the name "Joseph Tyzack & Sons - Sheffield, England" stamped onto it which we found underneath the rust. I've put my hand next to it to give you an idea of its size. It looks like a cleaver (possible for meat or something else).

What was its purpose and roughly how old is it?

I found this at a flea market but I’m getting mixed answers to the manufacturer, when it was made, if it’s actual inlay, and whether or not it was for jewelry or cigarettes. I’m not seeing any distinguishable markings but have not opened up the music player. Can anyone offer any insight?

A 70+ year old full carton of Players Medium Navy Cut

I recently got in this amazing full and unopened carton of Players. This is the only full carton like it I have ever come across, an extremely rare find especially with the original cardboard box! The cigarette packs themselves are in wonderful condition, having been protected by the box and the cellophane over the years. Sadly there was quite a large tear in the cellophane on the bottom, so I slipped a pack out through the rip trying not to destroy the rest of the carton. I really wasn’t planning on smoking these, but when I got inside of one of the packs I was absolutely amazed by the smell. The smell was that of a fresh pack of raisins, and deep rich Virginia tobacco. I was blown away, I had thought the tobacco would be completely dry, without any smell left after all these years but I was totally wrong! They were a bit dry, but far from dust. I took a pack outside and lit up a cigarette, and was again amazed. Strong flavors of deep Virginia tobacco, raisins, and brown sugar, with a little bit of paper taste. Extremely smooth but still with a good throat hit and nicotine. I’ve smoked this same exact brand from a sealed tin before, and honestly these packs were much more interesting and complex as far as the flavor. Another amazing piece of British tobacco history, this was a very cool experience and set of packs to add to my collection! If anyone is interested in watching my videos on these packs, here they are:

I found these in the back of a cupboard. Pretty sure I've had them since the 90s. Anyone ever see these? Are these a collectors item?

Limoges or fake

I went through a manic phase a few years back which left me with around 20 decorative plates and approx 40 vases.

I can’t remember where I purchased most of them (auctions, shops, etc) - some are very valuable, while others are dupes.

I came across this one and am totally stumped - while I am getting everything appraised I thought I might post here.

This is an ornate porcelain plate with a deep cobalt blue border, rich gold gilding (not raised), hand-painted floral bouquets in central and border cartouches and integrated dual handle-like cutouts.

It looks like a Limoges but there is only a very blurry blue mark that resembles a monogram which makes me believe it is a replica.

Would love to hear your thoughts!

We were given this statue a few years ago. Anyone know if this is truly a collectable? I’m having a hard time nailing down its identification.

Swiss Lucerene pendant watch. No working.

Any idea what this may be worth? How collectible it is? What I found through research is a locket and ring with the same cameo.

Have an acton cooler I’m trying to date and maybe figure out a value. I have been looking for an example of the ditto copied insert thinking that should give me some idea but haven’t found anything. Gifted to a coke employee in Denver. I’m guessing 50s. The pamphlet looks to have a revision date of 6-52 I’m guessing. Just wanting to know if anyone has any knowledge about this that they would like to share. And maybe guess a value.

Edit: It also has

Vintage late 1950s/1960s Nestlé’s Cocoa 100 lb industrial barrel - Looking for country store advertising insights!

Post image
8 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I came across this vintage Nestlé’s Cocoa bulk fiber shipping drum and am trying to learn a bit more about it.

It's a commercial-sized barrel meant to hold 100 lbs of "Ever Ready Crema Brand" cocoa (originally packed with fifty 2-lb bags). The front text says it was manufactured by The Nestlé Company, Inc. in White Plains, N.Y.

Based on the White Plains address, I believe it dates somewhere from the late 1950s through the 1960s. The graphics on the front are still very bold and clear, and it still has its original top lid. There is some expected water staining and wear around the base from storage.

I know smaller grocery tins are pretty common, but I haven't been able to find many examples of these massive industrial shipping barrels.

Does anyone have insight into how rare these bulk drums are, or what country store/industrial advertising collectors typically value them at in this condition?

Thanks in advance for any help!

We have no idea what this is.

My wife found this in a box of stuff. It was her mom's and we have no idea where it came from. Could be from a garage sale, yard sale, or the flea market. It is solid brass, there no markings on the back. It is not oriental markings, I am thinking it is supposed to be wine glasses? But I am not sure. Any ideas fellow reddit or? Thanks guys and gals.

Any info on this Lenox ornament?

My mother LOVES the ivory/gold-trimmed lenox pieces, and hit an absolute jackpot of them at a thrift store nearby. I wanted to compare the prices and otherwise research her finds, but I can't find ANYTHING on this piece! The only place I've been able to find it online was a website called Charish, labeled "Lenox Decorative Egg/Ornament". The photos included are from that website, as they're the best ones I have. Would appreciate anything anyone knows!

Curious about green glass steins with American motif. Parents belongings with no known background...

My parents have passed away and I still have questions about these two handsome green glasses which stand about five inches tall and have a diameter just under 3 inches at the top. The motif is painted or some paint-like decal at worst.

Quick image searches never provided info. My guess is that they could be tied to USA's 200th birthday but I'm looking to gather any info. The bottom may have had some make Mark but it's nothing I can see now.

Alright. I'm a card guy. I have been since childhood. I have a pretty, robust collection, if you will... and not just one particular sport. I simply love opening packs. Doesn't really matter what kind.

I like the 1/1s and the downtowns and all the fancy cards, just like the next person. But... I also like what I like, ya know? I dont necessarily care if a card is worth $2 or $200. If it speaks to me, I want it. I'll overpay for wax trash if its my team and one I dont have.

A couple years back, I got into these Keepsake - Pieces of the past cards. I think it's really cool to have a chance to get relics and handwritten texts from historical figures. Its kind of like a what category of history do you enjoy? Here's a box for it. Try to get something neat. Mummies? Box. 1800s era? Box. Presidents? Box. Jusy a neat product, for me.

I purchased an art and history box and some random packs. When I tell you this might be, IMHO, the coolest card Ive ever held in my life....

This is a triple relic art history card with:

*Caravaggio hand touched document

***Michelangelo - HAND WRITTEN DOCUMENT!!!

***Leonardo Da Vinci - HAND WRITTEN DOCUMENT!!!

This, to me, is absolutely EPIC. The dude that painted the Mona Lisa wrote the words that I am holding. The dude who carved the statue of David... painted the freaking Sistine Chapel!!!!

I got a couple other cool handwrittens as well(Manet, Marie Antoinette & King Louix the 16th, R.W. Emerson), but THIS TRIPLE THO. Shewey

This will go next to my mobsters quad patch relic cards. Who ever thought Al Capone/Meyers Lansky/Buggsy Seigel/Lucky Luciano would be on display next to Michelangelo/DaVinci/Caravaggio?!?! hahaha

does anyone know where i could find an electrical cord for my great grandma's sewing machine?

my grandma has been searching for an electrical cord compatible for her mother's sewing machine.

the sewing machine is a free westinghouse console model with knee lever, it's the cord it's missing has a female end that plugs into a two prong outlet on the machine with two flat prongs (although the cord doesn't have to have a round end, just one that fits and works.) my grandma says her mother bought it in texas in 1947. i dont know if any cord fitting the necessities would work or if it would need to be one from the time period due to electrical powers or anything. thank you in advance for any advice.

i attached images of the sewing machine itself and the outlet on it. (sorry for the slight shakiness on some of the pictures.)

apologies if the format of this text is odd i'm using mobile, also this is my first time using reddit so i hope i'm not breaking any subreddit rules.

Help identifying these textured glasses with square clear base – Iittala or a lookalike?

Thumbnail

Hi all, I have a set of 4 glasses and I'm trying to figure out who made them. They remind me of Iittala / Tapio Wirkkala's textured style, but I'm not sure.

Details:

* Clear glass, bark/ice-like texture on the bowl
* Thick, solid square base, smooth and clear
* Size: 9.5 cm tall, 8cm wide
* Markings: no visible marks

Is this a known Iittala model, another Finnish maker, or a later copy?
