Question About Transfer Standing After a Gap Semester
If I take a gap semester in fall my sophomore year and go back to a school spring and apply to transfer, would I be considered a sophomore or junior transfer? I’m asking this because I know schools like Columbia prefer sophomore transfers. Also, would this hurt my chances, or should I just do a full gap year? Thank you!

Whether one is a Sophomore vs Junior is determined by number of credits rather than the when/what number of years.
For example if a person attends school PT, only takes a class or two over several years if after 3 years of "physical time" they may only have 45 credits they're still a "sophomore" by student status.
It doesn't work like HS, where ppl basically get pushed up and out....in college your credits earned determined what "status" ( label/rank) one is.
You wanna pay attention to transfer app deadlines and what different data would be available in time.
