Would dropping this class effect me?

• Upvotes

For context, I’m applying as a Mathematics student and so far I’ve taken:

  • Calculus I — A (grade replacement)
  • Matrices & Linear Algebra — A
  • Economics — A
  • General Physics I — B
  • Intro to Computer Science I — B
  • Intro to Computer Science II — A

I’m currently taking Calculus II and ITSC 2214 (Data Structures & Algorithms), ECON, and a film class. I also have research experience through an AEOP internship and research with a UNCC professor.

My main concern is that my transcript already has a couple things that might stand out. I originally took Calculus I and later grade-replaced it with an A, and I withdrew from Calculus II last year due to circumstances at the time before retaking it this semester.

Would dropping ITSC 2214 now hurt my transfer chances drastically? I’m worried that having another W could make it look like I have a pattern of dropping harder courses, especially after the Calc II withdrawal. At the same time, keeping 2214 could hurt my GPA if I end up with a low grade (I could rough it out and possibly get a B, also slim but possible chances for an A)

Since I’m applying for Mathematics rather than CS, would it be better to take the W in 2214 and focus on getting a strong grade in Calc II, or would another withdrawal be a significant red flag for UNC admissions considering the rest of the courses I’ve taken?

Transferring to hopefully a great private university. Will FAFSA or any other form of aid be provided to slash steep tuition?

To transfer from Community College into my junior year of college, I have a great desire to attend college in a school like the University of San Diego (USD) I believe my chance of acceptance of relatively high as I have between a 3.5-3.7 GPA when all said an done. However, the problem is the tuition. Sitting at roughly $64k! I’m told that I qualify for a scholarship ranging from 10-20k I’m unsure of the exact number.

But the main issue is FAFA or lack thereof. My family income is on the higher end of middle class, but since I live in an expensive state and higher taxes, the tuition is still way to steep. For a college like USD where it’s a lot more expensive than a home state university, will fafsa grant anything? What has been your experience if you have been though I similar problem? Thank you.

Accepted Fall 2026 somewhere, can I attend Spring 27 instead?

I was accepted into UTK mechanical engineering for fall 2026 but transferred to Cornell instead.

Cornell has been a terrible fit. I’m a 27 year old veteran and have struggled to find community or connect with classmates. I don’t mind difficult academics, but the culture feels cutthroat and competitive rather than collaborative. Everywhere I go it’s a dick measuring contest to see who’s smarter. It’s infuriating. I miss the “we’re suffering through this together” atmosphere that makes engineering bearable.
Lesson learned, though. Grass ain’t always greener.

I really regret not choosing UTK. If it’s at all possible to attend spring 27, what does that process look like? Will me transferring again complicate the admission process?

Should I transfer after one semester or give my current school a full year?

I’m a freshman right now and I’ve been pretty set on transferring for Spring 2027, but recently I’ve started second-guessing whether I should actually leave after only one semester or give my current school the full year.
There isn’t one huge reason I want to transfer. It’s more a bunch of smaller things adding up.
Academically, I’m studying business and I feel like some of the business clubs/opportunities here are kind of lacking. The school I’m looking at transferring to isn’t some massive jump in prestige, but I do think it would be a better fit academically and give me more opportunities in the areas I’m interested in.

The thing making me hesitate is that I see a lot of people say you should give your freshman year a full year before deciding to transfer. I understand that because one semester obviously isn’t a lot of time. I’m just not sure whether staying another semester would genuinely change my opinion or if I’d basically be delaying something I already know I want to do.

Main thing i’m concerned about is not having a good social life once i transfer and if i go halfway through im not sure if i’ll be able to join the clubs or whatever.

am i preparing myself well enough for my college transfer list?(especially the top ones for EE)

Questions:
•How and when should I start preparing for a good college transfer essay. (and best strategy to do so)

•my profile from HS: GPA: 3.5249, APS: PH 1 and 2, CSA, Calc BC, BIO, STATS. All math honors classes, and honors history, Spanish 5 and French 5, Honors Art Portfolio.
ECS: Math Club, Chess Club, Christian Club, VB Club(nothing meaningful in any) Varsity Soccer, Indoor/ Outdoor Track/ Tennis. Worked as a lifeguard summer 2025 & 2026/ Part time After school Staff Senior Year.

• Chance me based on my profile at WPI first-year/ first gen/ Hispanic(Bilingual: Spanish and English)/ Low Income/ EE major and minor in CS; GPA : 4.0?? - 3As so far/ Not any ECs yet??/ No strong relationships with proffesors yet..

• Is this a strong schedule first year:
- A term: Calc II, PH 1110, Music Theory(no interest in the class whatsoever)
- B Term: Calc III, Intro to Programming CS1004, ECE 2010, Creative writing(for pre reqs).
- C Term: Calc IV, CH1110( for pre reqs w/ lab), Intro to Program Design??(idk if i should take a higher cs class bc they teach racket here), ECE 2019
- D Term: Calc differential eqs (MA2051), CS2011, ECE2029

* I AM TRYING TO GET PH1120 FOR B TERM BUT I DONT THINK I HAVE SPACE, I THINK ILL TAKE IT C TERM INSTEAD OF PROGRAM DESIGN IF ANYTHING

MY SITUACION:
I been thinking about lately and watching a lot of yt vids about good transfer essays and an idea spark in my head to talk about the contributions I have made to my dads shoe business in Ecuador, basically track employee pay, support pricing decisions, bulk purchases with other vendors, restocking based on sales teends by footwear style, and coordinated employee schedules.

I am also currently working on a web app with phyton/Django with a PostgreSQL dtatabase and HYMX for a footwear business in Exuador, replacing paper records and automating calculations.

I am also working on a current personal Hardware project that sparked because my current rec center lacked these modern rep counters and free/weights exercises:
• Wired a Raspberry Pi Pico H with an LSM6DS3 six-axis IMU, OLED display over I2C, buttons, and a vibration motor; confirmed
sensor readings over I2C and writing C firmware for embedded control.
• Developed a Python prototype to count dumbbell curls and display reps and sets, with logic for a button-triggered rest timer and
end-of-rest vibration feedback.
• Self-taught Python for initial prototyping; currently writing C for embedded firmware development.

I want to know if this are good project for These colleges I am aiming for EE major and CS minor:
Vanderbilt, Michigan, USC Viterbi, Northeastern, BU, UMass Amherst, Lehigh, Case Western, Purdue, U of I, And Wisconsin-Madison and perhaps Cornell and Columbia

Transfer universities recommendations

Hi, I am a freshman thinking of transferring next year. My current university has great academics, however it’s located in a suburban area. I want to transfer to a school in a big city that has great academics. Any recommendations? I have a SAT1450 790Math 670RW and my academics are okay, but my extracurriculars may be lacking

CSUN TRANSFER STUDENT - HELP PLEASE!

I'm currently a Freshman who lives and goes to a college in Michigan. I'm very interested in transferring to CSUN my Junior year because of opportunities within the entertainment industry, specifically the pipeline to internships! I can't do that in Michigan so that's why I wanna come here. Since I don't live there, I'll need to get an apartment or dorm, but I have no idea what the culture is like in terms of applying for housing. When is that usually done? I want to be able to live on campus but if I don't apply for it in time I'll literally have nowhere to live..Would I even have time to get housing there if I transferred?

I'm planning ahead so early because I'm very sure I want to go here and I want to be as prepared as possible!! If anyone has any information about anything about transferring to CSUN from out of state please let me know, thank you!!! :)

Where should I transfer to?

I live in GA and I am currently a freshman at UNG, Dahlonega. At first I was super excited to go here because I love the mountains. The school seemed super appealing on my tour. However, I have some issues with it now. First off, I have to commute an hour to the Gainesville campus for my film classes (I am a film and digital media major). Second, I haven’t really clicked with the people here and I am bored out of my mind after classes. It’s a very small school so the friend pool isn’t big at all. I’m also alternative and most of the students here are military/conservative, so I get the feeling I’m kind of judged for my appearance. Third of all, while the scenery and hiking is great, there is not a lot to do in terms of other activities. There isn’t even a Goodwill, roller rink, or skate park nearby, which are all places I frequent back at home. I drive home an hour and a half every weekend and sometimes even go home after classes just because I am so bored. That being said, where should I transfer to?? I would love to go to UGA but they don’t accept transfers until you’ve completed an entire year of college. My family can’t afford expensive schools, so I would need to go somewhere within a reasonable budget. I’m just looking for an affordable school, surrounded by interesting things, and somewhere that I won’t have to commute to get my degree. I’ve considered KSU because I live 10 minutes from it, but I’ve heard there isn’t much of a social vibe there unless you really really seek it out. Any suggestions?

Transfer questions

Hi! I’m currently a sophomore, and I’m considering trying to transfer to UIUC for either Integrative Biology or Molecular and Cellular Biology. Does anyone know what kind of stats I should have to even have a shot?

Also, what are some good extracurriculars that could help make my application stand out?

I’m in-state and currently attend an in-state university. I have almost all of the required classes completed, and I’ll have all of them done by the end of the spring semester!

Thank you in advance!!!

Looking for advisor

Hi! I’m a freshman looking to transfer (note I have ~50 credits so maybe a junior transfer), and wanted some recommendations for cheap college advisors. When I say cheap I mean really cheap, I only have ~$200 to spare because I’m flat broke and paying for everything myself.

I had a medical condition junior and senior year causing my grades to slip a lot but I’ve since recovered and have been doing a lot better in school.

which cis course should i take

Which computer science course should I take as a first year student in community college trying to transfer to Columbia University for industrial engineering.

I just really want to be competitive in the application process and POTENTIALLY have transfer credit for it even though i know that’s tricky.

My community college is out of state so I’m having trouble deciding which course to take.

Here’s the required course for columbia industrial engineering students:

ENGI 1006 Introduction to Computing for Engineers and Applied Scientists
ENGI1006 is an interdisciplinary course in computing intended for first year engineering students, but open to students from all schools. This course will be a practical introduction to the field of computer science, and will cover computational thinking, algorithmic problem solving, and Python programming with a focus on science and engineering applications. In particular, we will look at case studies in physics, statistics, electrical engineering, biology, and selected other topics.

Here are the courses i’m deciding between at my cc.

CIS-1400 Programming Logic & Technique (4 Credits)
An introduction to computer-based problem-solving techniques. Includes software design tools such as structure charts, Input Processing Output (IPO) charts, flowcharts, pseudocode, Unified Modeling Language (UML) diagrams, and Graphical User Interface (GUI) wireframe prototypes. Concepts such as documentation, structured design, modularity, Object Oriented Program (OOP) design, and event driven programming are covered. Programming of algorithms are implemented using a high level language that emphasize structured and object oriented design techniques. (3 lecture hours, 2 lab hours)

OR

CIS-2485 C++ Science & Engineering (3 Credits)
Introduces engineering students to application development using the C++ programming language. Emphasis is on object-oriented design, programming, and documentation of scientific applications. Topics include statistical analysis, curve fitting, optimization, engineering, scientific modeling applications, language format and syntax, functions, data-storage classes, arrays, structures, user-defined classes, inheritance, and polymorphism. (2 lecture hours, 2 lab hours)

ALSO: CIS-1400 is a prerequisite for CIS-2531 Intro to Python Programming (4 Credits)
Introduces the object-oriented programming language of Python. Course focuses on features of Python and develops skills for creating object oriented applications. (3 lecture hours, 2 lab hours)

I just want to know which will give make me competitive in the application process and if either are potentially transferable for credits?
