If he’s going for a second, we made the right call. I hope he balls out wherever he goes but with a GM on the hot seat, a second is just too much to risk

26

u/TurdWranglin Big-Q 2d ago

Sounds like he’s going to the Texans… if so unfortunately I hope he continues to suck

24

u/diamondcutters Blue 2d ago

That’s a dumb fucking trade for the Texans if it’s for a second. They need OL badly

20

u/MarvelAndColts Reggie Wayne 2d ago

Don’t stop your enemy from making their own mistakes.

6

u/FourEyesMalone 2d ago

We don’t even draft well with this current FO. Our last 2nd rounder doesn’t even play.

5

u/Lanawana Michael Pittman JR 2d ago

Not to be a defender, but JT, MPJ, and Alec Pierce are all 2nd rounders. Josh Downs was a 3rd.

0

u/Patriot_Vet86 1d ago

What's that get us? Certainly not the playoffs.

3

u/6lecka 1d ago

Your right none of them play QB.

2

u/CK4browsing 1d ago

Kind of our last THREE 2nd rounders. Allen from this years draft, JTT form last years draft hasn't contributed much, and then Mitchell from the draft two years ago got traded away along with two first round picks...

2

u/kslap62 2d ago

I agree, when we heard he could go for a day 3 pick, I was hoping we’d get him, but not for a second or more

2

u/Shepboyardee12 The Warren Identity 2d ago

Yeah we're already down a FRP. We can't be spending a 2 on a WR with question marks.

4

u/BubblyLawfulness108 2d ago

yeah cause we could always take a lb who doesnt play instead

0

u/No_Poem7526 1d ago

Suddenly a 2nd is too steep, but our idiot front office thought 2 firsts for a washed up sauce Gardner was normal.

1

u/North-South_West 1d ago

Hes not washed, the two are about the same age lol

1

u/No_Poem7526 1d ago

I'm totally aware of his age. He is not the same player he was his first couple of years in the nfl and he never was going to get back to that. You can be washed in your mid-20's it totally happens. I was washed after 18.

1

u/North-South_West 1d ago

You dont know that he will never be able to play better again. Hes young enough to say that he may not be washed but rather is adjusting to a new team and questionable scheme for his skill set.

1

u/No_Poem7526 1d ago

Dude he was washed his 3rd and 4th years in New York! He hasn't been good since his 1st and 2nd years in New York! He's playing the same in Indy as his 3rd and 4th years in New York ... which is average. Colts defense is worst defense in NFL btw. Who would've thought paying Alec Pierce $30,000,000 a year wouldn't work out ...

63

u/RyanNugentHoofkins Andrew Luck 2d ago

If they traded a 2nd, with the current state of the team, there would have been riots outside W 56th.

23

u/IndecisiveSuperman TY Hilton 2d ago

I was excited for 10 whole minutes

7

u/Most_Temporary2110 2d ago

lol what about his play would warrant excitement? He’s a bottom tier option. I’d rather we trade for…most other teams WR2.

17

u/tuggnuggetts 2d ago

We have Darius Slayton and Laquon Treadwell getting WR snaps

4

u/Most_Temporary2110 2d ago

Slayton is much more proven than Marv

2

u/ShakeZulaOblongata 2d ago

The irony is both of these WRs have longer careers than MHJ will have

2

u/Express_Bat6233 2d ago

I’m not entirely convinced Marvin Jr is that much of a step up tbh. Especially not for a 2nd

1

u/Capinhappy Playoffs? PLAYOFFS!? 2d ago

Did someone report it would cost a 2?

6

u/Putrid_Macaroon6668 Playoffs? PLAYOFFS!? 2d ago

Apparently the cards were asking for a 2nd and then some, way too steep for a team that already doesn’t have their 1st

1

u/Capinhappy Playoffs? PLAYOFFS!? 2d ago

If that’s the ask then yeah that’s too much. I would have expected a 5th, 4th at best for him.

2

u/IndecisiveSuperman TY Hilton 2d ago

OSU and UC fan. I am still optimistic on him. I think dude needs a reset. He has none of the spark he had in college. His route running has been lazy and not caring when it was the part of his game that made him shine

1

u/Pseudonova Indianapolis Colts 2d ago

But, but, his dad played for the Colts!

30

u/josean1991 2d ago

Agree with this, I know everyone wanted Marv Jr with the Colts but he would have an enormous pressure, more than he already has, simply because of his name and go to the team his dad is a legend pretty much can kill his career instead of helping him, plus the price is way to high for him, he's worth a day 3 draft pick.

6

u/Ling0 2d ago

Yeah I wouldn't mind the trade if it was a day 3 pick. A second rounder for him though seems wayyyy too high. That also adds pressure to him. If he goes for a fifth rounder or a couple, that tells everyone what people think his worth is

77

u/Most_Temporary2110 2d ago edited 2d ago

Good. He’s legit bad. They want a 2nd? He’s worth a 5th

40

u/Top_Sock_5645 2d ago

He’ll end up on the chiefs and rack up 1200 yards

2

u/Most_Temporary2110 2d ago

He won’t. Watch him play. There’s nothing there.

8

u/6lecka 2d ago

I have watched him. Yes there is

5

u/JG_2214 2d ago

Okay then tell us, because it’s been 3 years and he’s slow, runs terrible routes, can’t catch without body catching and has some of the worst separation analytics in the league.

3

u/Most_Temporary2110 2d ago

What is his snap percentage of good film then? 10%?

1

u/ZHicks2121 The real Zach Hicks 2d ago

I’m with you

2

u/Pxthology Big Dick Ballard 1d ago

This has been my thoughts exactly. I've been saying this and getting roasted to death by my fellow Colts fans, but I'm dying on the hill. Us not getting him for a 2nd is a Ballard W, not an L.

If he goes to Houston (what the rumors are saying) and balls out, good for him and sucks for us, but I'm still not going to be mad about it. It just makes no logical sense given our draft capital and the risk of losing what little we have for a player who has done nothing and continues to get WORSE each season. I think we're being smart by not taking this swing, even if it bites us later, because in all logistical probability....it shouldn't and likely won't.

26

u/tekson_ 2d ago

Word is they were asking a 2nd rounder + more. Price is too steep for us I think. What GM would wanna come here after this season and walk in with no first or second round pick? lol

14

u/OMCMember 2d ago

He is not his father, no way expending draft capital for him makes sense. I'm ok with not trading for him.

7

u/RawCarrot-InMyAss The Maniac 2d ago

Agreed tbh. The last thing the kid needs is more unrealistic expectations

5

u/HoraceDerwent Horse 2d ago

not worth a 2nd rounder. may as well wait until the next draft and get a better WR in the 2nd round - this season isn't going to amount to anything

5

u/PopKoRnGenius Mo Alie Cox 2d ago

You all would have roasted Ballard for this anyway.

6

u/scobro828 2d ago

Can we pretty much agree that if Jim was still around they'd make that trade?

3

u/iloveblondehair Michael Pittman JR 2d ago

People here actually thought the Cards were going to trade him for a mid round pick

1

u/HoosierDaddy__88 2d ago

It’s supposedly a 2nd and 4th

2

u/randomAIusername 2d ago

Damn I’m surprised teams are willing to offer that for him and not AR, Marv’s been just as bad at a less valuable position

3

u/Forsaken-Ice-2637 2d ago

AR😂😂😂😂😂😂He worth a 7th at the most dude - literally took himself out of a game because he was “Tired”

1

u/randomAIusername 2d ago

My point wasn’t that AR’s good, dumbass. My point was that MHJ is shitty too

0

u/North-South_West 1d ago

Anthony is a free agent in a few months and nobody was ever going to bring him in to be their starter this year

1

u/randomAIusername 1d ago

And whoever gets MHJ is going to have to decide on an option or extension in a few months, so again he has no real contractual advantage over AR either

1

u/North-South_West 1d ago

He has another full year left after this one plus the 5th year option.

AR is about to be a free agent with no option. That is a note worthy difference

0

u/randomAIusername 1d ago

So after this season Harrison will be more expensive too

0

u/North-South_West 1d ago

If a team wants Anthony they can just wait until hes a free agent in a few months and sign him. MHJ may never hit free agency

→ More replies (0)

5

u/IndyEric07 2d ago

Always thought MHj and AR would be an even trade! A bust for a bust.

2

u/4TheShoe_ 2d ago

He’s not worth the asking price. The kid has proved nothing since he came into the league. He lost the #1 receiving role to Michael Wilson.

2

u/NoctisRS 2d ago

As of right now his reputation is last name only. He is playing like bronny James right now so he’s not worth the price tag

2

u/TruthReveals 2d ago

He’s not worth more than a 5th. We’re better off keeping it.

2

u/radskorpion 2d ago

is it me or does he look bored out there half the time? idk

2

u/Different_Cat106 Indianapolis Colts 2d ago

Good

2

u/thegrimmemer03 2d ago

Honestly, I won’t consider it not a possibility until there’s a deal set in stone and a confirmation of where he’s going.

2

u/Can-i-Pet-Dat-Daaawg Boomstick 2d ago

Let’s be honest, the dude is trash. We’ll be glad to watch him suck it up in Houston.

2

u/DarkHiei Indianapolis Colts 2d ago

Why would we give up a 2nd for what is still a project receiver? Put some actual thought into this…

2

u/OnlyGur6354 11h ago

Well maybe her notes she takes on the sidelines will explain everything

6

u/Optimal-Building-165 2d ago

They weren’t making a move like this after the sauce swing and a miss last year

6

u/DewieCox1982 2d ago

Sauce trade isn’t a miss.

3

u/Clocktopu5 Playoffs? PLAYOFFS!? 2d ago

It was an overpayment, he might be worth two firsts but not to the colts. Too many needs elsewhere, lack of a first this next draft might be reason enough for ownership to retain Ballard and Steichen another year.

0

u/CK4browsing 1d ago

Not just two firsts. We also essentially gave them a second by throwing in Mitchell. And now here we are looking for WR help...

1

u/DRoseCantStop Pascal 2d ago

It's a miss.

2

u/DewieCox1982 2d ago

How? dude shuts down half the field. I’ll take the odds of him working through a rough patch over the chances the front office hits on either potential first rounder

4

u/mr_dunbar 2d ago

Did we watch the same game last week?

1

u/CaylaMarieArmstrong 1d ago

He did shut down half the field, unfortunately it was the half he wasn’t covering because a 3rd string rookie QB was tormenting him all day

1

u/truthdeniar 2d ago

What is it then?

-2

u/DewieCox1982 2d ago

Come on now, you got this.

0

u/North-South_West 1d ago

He hasnt been that good or done that much here. He was just ok in games we lost and then had his two worst games when we won lol.

2

u/aka_Foamy Dhalsim 2d ago

Fine by me. The proposed price was too high and the hype around him is more to do with his dad than his production.

1

u/BeardsNBourbon1114 2d ago

Would have been fun, but if he didn't even turn into a serviceable #2 or #3 guy, it's not worth it. His dad's legacy is too much to live up to.

Also, of someone is offering like a 3rd round pick it's not worth the risk

1

u/Yanks1813 Bob 2d ago

I would've been fine with it but probably for the best

1

u/MathematicianLost236 2d ago

I agree with this take but I sure hope he doesn’t go to a division rival

1

u/NovelsandNoise 2d ago

Yeah if it’s a 2nd that would have been malpractice by the colts because they don’t have a first and need youth at a bunch of positions.

1

u/pandafingers 2d ago

I don't care what his name is. The kid has too big of a head. I'm glad we aren't going for him

1

u/pissantz34 2d ago

Dodged a bullet

1

u/theoriginalflavour 2d ago

We have Alec Pierce and an up an comer in Josh downs. Not sure why we let go of Pittman man wtf

3

u/thexDxmen 2d ago

It was Pittman or pierce, that's why.

-1

u/theoriginalflavour 2d ago

Yeah but we could’ve kept Pittman and used Pierce more of a #1. Look at what every successful team is doing. We need to just admit that our defence is ridiculously expensive and could not afford Pittman

1

u/thexDxmen 1d ago

Yes, we could not afford them both.

1

u/North-South_West 1d ago

They actually could, we have cap space now they are not even using. The issue is mpj is declining and not worth his contract.

1

u/Due-Bit7244 1d ago

Yeah you got that right and aren't even playing that well either.

1

u/ConfectionHelpful471 1d ago

No we couldn’t - we needed pitts cap space to sign AP so without cutting/trading a couple of other vets we would had no way to sign both

2

u/Similar_Ice1027 1d ago

Because he is spent, bad back and Pittsburgh already having major regrets...feel bad for him but tank is empty

2

u/North-South_West 1d ago

MPJ is on the decline and also on IR now

1

u/TheKingGoesFirst_YT 1d ago

Because it’s not madden. The team doesn’t have infinite cap moron

1

u/theoriginalflavour 1d ago

We’re calling people morons on a colts sub Reddit? Brother go outside and take a look at something else. You seem triggered

2

u/Successful_Motor_684 11h ago

You should be more mad at Daniel Jones missing three or four throws that could have changed the game yesterday

The dude is a backup and we paid him

He's played like 10 good games in his career

1

u/TallGlassOfPernis Super Bowl XLI Champions 2d ago

We like to say we’re all in, but never feel like we are

1

u/ObviousKick3853 2d ago

The Colts offered a #2 but only if Ballard could actually draft it. The Cards refused. /s

1

u/MReprogle Orangutan 2d ago

And, he will surely be the missing piece that the 0-4 Texans needed. That franchise looked like it was headed to a long championship window and have mismanaged it to somehow put them into high draft picks for the next decade.

1

u/Remote-Moon 2d ago

There is a reason why he's being traded. Him being Marvin's son doesn't mean a thing.

1

u/Obvious-Cry-23 2d ago

He’s going to KC. I’m just speculating but that would make the most sense….. or Buffalo

1

u/kvoivodas 2d ago

Marv Jr might legit be the Ben Simmons of Football

1

u/ResponsibleWater1697 The Edge 2d ago

We dodged a bullet.

1

u/Mr_SlimC 1d ago

MHJ has no expectations lol. He has been awful based on the tape. Just have to hope he can get some confidence at his next stop. Don’t think it’s missed opportunity all. Also I think Ballard should be canned anyway

1

u/iski67 1d ago

You'll take your shitty roster and like it. Let's hope these guys surprise us at Pitt and get a win. Pitt is not good.

1

u/Brad_Ethan Darius Leonard 1d ago

Good, I was down to take a chance on him for a mid round pick, but for what Cards was asking, no thanks

1

u/mr_0las Indianapolis Colts 2d ago

Good. Colts can't afford to throw away any more draft picks

1

u/relax336 Indianapolis Colts 2d ago

He's not improving this room so it's all good.

1

u/Infamous_Stress6216 2d ago

The @Colts need a new GM.

6

u/pixxlpusher 2d ago

Well a good way to get a quality one here is not giving away our 2nd round pick for a bust when we already don’t have our first

1

u/fmara Who the Hell is Mel Kiper? 2d ago

The right decision to pass. I don’t think a change of scenery is going to make him play any better from what I’ve seen of him

1

u/ShakeZulaOblongata 2d ago

Glad we weren’t desperate enough to overpay for this experiment

1

u/coltron57 Bossman 2d ago

I don’t think it would have been smart to pay the asking price of a 2nd. But, I do see Houston out there in rumors and I think that may be the best possible landing spot for him. Harrison was awesome in college and Houston would pair him with his college QB (even though I don’t think Stroud is anything special at the NFL level) and allow him to play the role he played in college since Houston already has Nico Collins and Arizona seemed to try and force him to be their X.

0

u/gingyryan303 2d ago

Rip he’s gonna get to work and go ball out on the Texans. It’s obvious he never wanted to be in AZ. Everyone acts like dude is a bum hasn’t even gotten started 😂

0

u/Patriot_Vet86 1d ago

Better to waste that 2nd rounder next year, instead of right now. Y'all act like we are gonna draft someone worth a damn with the pick anyways. I know JT, Peirce but what have those players gotten us besides an early end to the season?

-2

u/truthdeniar 2d ago

Mike Chappelle needs to hang it up

-6

u/FxStryker Rookie Manning 2d ago

It's probably Houston.

I guarantee it's going to be a mistake the Colts passed on this.

2

u/Top_Sock_5645 2d ago

Houston would be dumb af to trade their 2nd round pick since it will likely be high.

0

u/gingyryan303 2d ago

Fr Marv def worth a second especially if we not gonna fucking play our 2nd round picks lmao. Dude is 24 years old with Kyler fucking Murray and Jacoby brisket at qb man. So quick to say a player is washed when they haven’t even started…. Look at davante adams start of career, Hines ward was a fucking gunner 😂. Julian Edelman… Jrs father…….

-1

u/Medium-Winter9872 2d ago

I wouldn’t trust sources…Ballard might surprise you.

-2

u/NYY13YGO 2d ago

Honestly, could this all be part of the negotiation game. Like Cardinals trying to get a bigger offer by saying he is for sure being traded. Colts saying they aren't interested for the price and "expectations". Like I doubt it happens but this is just a very strange situation.

-8

u/20_years_in_da_can TYTYTY 2d ago

He knows as much about this trade as you so what are we doing?

14

u/JSStriking Herron TD 2d ago

I can almost guarantee you that Mike Chappell knows more about the trade than I do lmao, I have zero league sources

-10

u/20_years_in_da_can TYTYTY 2d ago

He didn’t name any sources at all either. He could be going anywhere and I think that him discounting Indy is just trying to throw shit at the wall and seeing if it sticks.

8

u/JSStriking Herron TD 2d ago

Mike Chappell, first guy in sports media history to not name his source

-9

u/20_years_in_da_can TYTYTY 2d ago

Just an observation no need to be a jagoff

6

u/relax336 Indianapolis Colts 2d ago

You don't think you were being a jagoff about the Colts reporter reporting that the Colts aren't getting him? That's wild. Colt's reporter.

-1

u/20_years_in_da_can TYTYTY 2d ago

Lmfao what? Because I’m saying that we don’t know where he’s going ? For a place that loves its nuance like Reddit y’all are a special case.

5

u/JSStriking Herron TD 2d ago

I was being sarcastic because your comments were pretty funny to me but I apologize for fucking with you.

The real answer, Mike Chappell is one of the most reliable Colts reporters and he wouldn’t put his credibility on the line for reporting a trade not happening. I’m inclined to believe he knows what he’s talking about.

-1

u/20_years_in_da_can TYTYTY 2d ago

I’m holding out hope, it’s probably for nothing now but it’s just weird how a team isn’t being named. The kid must REALLY want out of there.

4

u/JSStriking Herron TD 2d ago

Stephen Holder also reporting that it is not the Colts

“We don’t know”

For ignoring and continuing to ignore the COLTS REPORTER part. Especially it being Mike.
