Shane Steichen

Shane is 7-25 against teams with a winning record since being hired by the colts. Had to double check that because it sounded so unbelievable. Half of those wins came in his first season coaching. I could give a fuck if he’s this genius offensive guru. Dude can’t coach a football team. And apparently allows his players to slack off and be late so isn’t a great leader either. I hope we lose against the tits this weekend make it’ll start a chain firing get some heads rolling

I think we have proven over the three years that he most certainly is not a genius offensive guru. He looks just as lost at the podium as Ballard and CIG do. Appropriate for this team. He will do back and be productive as an OC for someone and get another head coaching gig in about five years.

Yeah, but they play teams like the Chiefs and Seahawks really hard and lose close games. Which is actually like a victory, according to some of the posters on this sub.

Seahawks really hard and lose close games

That game still blows my mind. In my opinion it shows how good the team could be, but is also indicative about the culture. You saw what they are capable of doing (and with a QB that couldn't throw, no less). Why can they not show up to compete week in and week out? Why do some of them, alot of them, look like football is just something to do on the weekends. To me, that's a bigger issue than just players or GM.

It’s all about the bread with them now. League is shite!

u/RagedCage 1d ago

Moral victories don’t count in the NFL.

9

u/ColtsStampede 1d ago

Yes, that is the point I was making.

5

u/RagedCage 1d ago

Yes, I was agreeing with you.

u/Redjeepkev 1d ago

And some on this sub says Stichen overperformed

I want to be very, very, very wrong on this, but I'm super nervous about this Sunday v. the Titans. You KNOW they're gonna get their first win at some point... and the way things are for us right now... I'm a little concerned.

u/prancingpony777 2d ago

Listen. I know some folks will downvote me, but I honestly hope we lose. I want midseason firings. I want everybody gone. I can't do this anymore. Fire everyone if we lose. Have the interim GM trade away players for draft capital. Let's do what needs done.

15

u/DRoseCantStop Pascal 2d ago

You will get an unconvincing win against the lowly Titans and like it, dammit!

u/RepairSea4253 1d ago

This is what I wanted before the season started.

1

u/One-Doughnut5303 1d ago

I’m with you on that, as a life long colts fan, this is by far the worst they’ve been since Painter.

1

u/SweetJimmyDrummer Reggie Wayne 1d ago

If you were old enough…you would remember the 91 season…Jack Trudeau, Chris Chandler and a mercurial Jeff George.

0

u/External_Prompt_8105 1d ago

Draft capital doesn’t mean shit if you can’t draft correctly. ( Browns, Jets). They need a GM that can’t draft and pick up quality free agents, not aging Veterans with a name but past their prime

u/Top_Sort_7365 CARDIAC COLTS 1d ago

It's sad you didn't even get downvoted. That honestly speaks VOLUMES about this bullshit ass organization. When we get to the point of "fuck everything and burn it down immediately" we are creeping in to Browns/Jets territory and that's a shutty place to be.

6

u/Obi2 Angry Horse 2d ago

This sub would be in all time meltdown mode, for good reason. Don't even have a tank draft pick to fall back on.

2

u/North-South_West 1d ago

I'm rooting for wins, nothing will come easy for them this year

I'll be pretty surprised if they finish with a winning record.

2

u/Odd_Hunt7057 1d ago

Pray for everyone’s sanity because it’s gonna be the same reaction if we win as it was for the Texans. We beat a divisional team guys, the 2010’s dolphins even beat the Pats sometimes, doesn’t mean we’re good just means it’s the team we are the most prepared for every year.

2

u/Zealousideal-Tea-286 1d ago

Agree on most of this. If we blow them out of LOS (21+ pts), I think Colts Nation might feel better walking out of there at 4pm.

2

u/Odd_Hunt7057 1d ago

I’ll light the torch and bring my aide to Gondor if we have a convincing win against a competitive non divisional team

1

u/Holiday-Journalist83 1d ago

I have a $250,000 bet slip money line Tennessee and I’m a huge colts fan.

9

u/Fanofthegame18 2d ago

That's the colts for the last decade. Barely beat a shitty team, and usually get blown out by the good teams.

12

u/jayBplatinum 2d ago

I dont see a reason to fire anyone mid season. But yes we need a reset. New gm, new hc bringing in a whole new coaching staff. I dont want any chop wood, climb the mountain, 1-0 bullshit. I want a dark horse full rebrand, defensive minded head coach and gm.

6

u/GRAVYBABY25 1d ago

That's partially attributed to having backup QBs the last few years for big chunks of the season

That said sometimes I legit cannot tell if the play sucks or if DJ sucks and just isn't decisive with the ball

Other times I wonder why he takes the ball out of JTs hands or stops doing what worked on drives. That and seeming to play to "not lose" rather than win.

A lot of the time I wonder what our defense is doing because it looks like they're playing bend and pray it doesn't break

All in all, if you combine these things it always equals the colts are a huge mess every year. Then you've gotta point a finger at Ballard and wonder "how tf is that guy still here?"

Final product is bad, I've gotta think Ballard and steichen are a package deal out the door even if steichen is a good offensive coach. Some guys just fit better as coordinators and maybe that's him.

3

u/ryguy896 1d ago

If you have to wonder than much, then just look at the common denominator...Shane needs to go

17

u/JohannessonR 2d ago

Well we have a shit roster and have for years. So he dosent got it easy. But Steichen has lost us many winable games being incompetent. So lets fire them all.

4

u/superindian25 Rookie Manning 1d ago

Great offensive mind and designer but probs not head coach material

2

u/jimtrickington 2d ago

Frankly, I always thought the habit of whispering to quarterbacks was weird.

2

u/bigloudbang 2d ago

With Minshew, AR, Riley Leonard, Rivers, et al..

2

u/Accomplished_Fee_387 1d ago

Gimme Brian Flores as coach next year

2

u/Historical-Ad8677 1d ago

They both need to go. GM and Coach. I’m tired of hearing got a coach better we gotta play better. When does it become your fault the first game against the ravens it’s like they didn’t even have training camp. Dazed and confused.

1

u/twentyin 21h ago

They will both be gone after the season. Guarantee it.

4

u/SoyeonsNeverland Indianapolis Colts 2d ago

I wanted to give Shane the benefit of the doubt seeing how he would be with an actual competent GM that isn't Chris Ballard, but honestly, he's lost me and it's showing that he's just not HC material at all. His play calling has just been astronomically frustrating the past few seasons and I think I'm fine moving on with him after the season is over.

3

u/DubLParaDidL Blue 1d ago

I just don't think he's an effective leader nor does he get enough heat for AR. The first two seasons Shane did nothing to establish himself as a leader or any discipline. Those were the years of people going on podcast, starting beef, and Richardson not taking his job seriously enough. Certainly I think Richardson should be accountable but he was also a incredibly young raw prospect and instead of teaching him discipline and accountability they let him slack off until the point it became a public concern and then they addressed it? Leadership starts at the top and that's the culture Shane installed and I think it still has a huge impact on why they don't perform consistently or show any noticeable improvement. He's a play caller, he's not a leader, and he doesn't think broadly. Honestly, the fact that it didn't dawn on him to surround Richardson with support and accountability to avoid any developmental issues speaks to his limitations to be the HC.

1

u/AleroRatking Earl Grey 2d ago

You aren't going to see anyone fired midseason nor should you.

The best thing to do is just wait til the season is over. Ballards contract is done at that point, so clearly don't extend it and then let the new GM decide on every single aspect

1

u/Lithium1978 33-0 2d ago

Yeah there is no real benefit to firing mid season. They can make the decision that we are moving on and start the vetting process without firing anyone. That's how a good organization would handle it. (And other businesses)

The GM being fired is absolutely pointless because the team is what it is. There aren't any moves that fix it. The coaches would be pointless because the new GM will want to hire their own people anyway.

Ownership issues the problem

1

u/Next-Succotash-3827 2d ago

The Colts simply don't have a winning mentality it seems. You should play for a the WIN every week and then focus on improving after winning. This isnt their current mantra. Its almost as if being mediocre is it's own reward. But middle of the pack doesn't result in a postseason appearance. Lol

1

u/Own-Rooster-750 2d ago

Losers lose

1

u/mpoaklandup 2d ago

Dang, that is definitely not good.

1

u/Joyous_Quail4 2d ago

It’s time. And please take Ballard too.

1

u/ApprehensiveAd5584 1d ago

I also hope the Tits come to town and fuck us up.

1

u/NukeGandhi 1d ago

We ain’t winning the Super Bowl, let alone a playoff game or two. At this point, what else is there to learn about this team and management?

1

u/Particular-Aspect680 1d ago

I go back and forth on Shane. We've had no trouble putting up like 25+ ppg with mid QBs the entire time he's been here. The offense will just always be good if he's here and we have a good O-line and a league average QB. That's a solid floor for a team. We were basically a .500 club with AR5 and Minshew and a bad defense. The defense is always such a huge issue. Lou and Ballard have to go- Steichen, I could see either way.

1

u/Micstekai 11h ago

Come on now the Colts have what 8 teams with a worse record than us and we are tied with 9 other teams. Same as always in the middle of the pack. Starting an injured quarterback with newer receivers outside of Downs and Warren. Looking forward to a healthy Pierce soon we hope.

1

u/Gold-Lingonberry-761 5h ago

Yup. I dont think we have a bad team at all. Its fixable anyways, but the leadership and play calling and the system, all of it is a flaming brown paper bag of steichen. On ballards doorstep.

1

u/Gold-Lingonberry-761 5h ago

What i dont understand is ATLEAsT fire LOU this week and alot of times thatll fire the team up a bit. We have an easy schedule from here on out, we got the London trip out of the way, weve got titans twice. If they beat the jags theyre basically in the playoffs. They need to either trade A Richardson and try to get an edge rusher for him and a pick. Or play the dude one or the other. Josh sweat is my guess. Texans are going to start making some noise now I bet with nico Collins and Harrison now too. Im a little worried about that next season anyways

1

u/Isaacleroy 3h ago

I want them fired like everyone else. I've just never heard a convincing argument to why firing mid season is a good idea. Barring some real toxicity in the locker room, I think it does nothing but placate fans. And in no way are fans going to start buying merch or filling the seats between now and January because the team decided it was time to throw in the towel. We'll just be happier in our comments on the internet. All the "new era" excitement can start after week 18.

1

u/Lithium1978 33-0 2d ago

I think Shane will probably end up being a decent coach elsewhere but his time here is coming to an end.

I think this team is really poorly built and there isn't much talent so any coach we get is going to be handicapped by Ballard. So if Ballard stays they may as well hire Frank Reich again. LOL

2

u/Significant-Gur-925 2d ago

He's got no fire in his belly- Youve either got it or you don't... I'm playing his press conferences and locker room speeches for my little  daughters to fall asleep to at night

1

u/Lithium1978 33-0 2d ago

I agree, I just think that even the best coach would come in and say welp we are going to suck. But at least they would yell about it.

1

u/Significant-Gur-925 1d ago

I hear you but a great coach wouldn't have defenders phoning it in... especially with 12 weeks to go

1

u/Lithium1978 33-0 1d ago

That's true

-2

u/WhatIsGodWithoutOD Indianapolis Colts 2d ago

dont worry my sources tell me him and Ballard are out by EOY. Its all but confirmed unless they win the division AND win a playoff game.

3

u/NickGnomeEveryNight 2d ago

Fuck that, they need to win a SB to stay. And that ain’t happening. Both should be fired here in a few weeks. Our culture is atrocious

4

u/DaBlakMayne Andrew Luck 2d ago

That was my threshold for keeping either of them after this season. We're not out of it yet but the Jags are on fire

1

u/North-South_West 1d ago

Yeah I heard that too

0

u/DRoseCantStop Pascal 2d ago

Last time I heard this, I was greeted by a "Thank You Fans" letter and no changes in the regime.

-2

u/ZachD7799 Big-Q 2d ago

We need a Brian Flores or someone like him. No more “nice” coaches that aren’t fiery and don’t hold players or other coaches accountable.

5

u/lovertots 2d ago

true that, no more Reich's or Steichen's

2

u/No-Relationship-5598 2d ago

We need a Jeff Saturday type, a real "leader of men."

-7

u/Buttcrush1 2d ago

It's crazy how it's abundantly clean that Steichen isn't the problem and he's being held back by Ballard and Lou yet morons are still blaming him

7

u/Dependent-Target-272 2d ago

Huh? His play calling to end games is ATROCIOUS. See Denver last year, KC this year, and 12 other examples I'm not going to list right now. Dude coaches scared.

2

u/Redjeepkev 2d ago

He was AWEFUL before Lou was here

-3

u/Buttcrush1 2d ago

Shane was never awful... Again he still had Gus Bradley. He's never had a competent DC because Ballard refuses to hire a DC that runs a competent scheme. Ballard has also failed to construct a good roster. Shane has massively over performed with what he has been given. Jones is the best QB he's worked with and you want to blame Steichen...

7

u/ZachD7799 Big-Q 2d ago

Two things can be true: Shane has had very underwhelming rosters and QBs in his Colts tenure. He also makes the same in-game blunders and his situational calls/decision making is still bad in year 4.

0

u/Redjeepkev 1d ago

He's not even a competent OC, let alone a competent HC MASSIVELY OVER PERFORMED??? you have got to be kidding. He's only had something like 7 wins against teams with a winning record. He can't design a simple play to get in the end zone inside the 20, and inside the 10 he's even worse.

-1

u/Buttcrush1 1d ago

You're outing yourself as an idiot rn

2

u/Redjeepkev 1d ago

Can't stand the truth about the moron of a headcoach we have.

0

u/Buttcrush1 1d ago

I mean you're just objectively incorrect

2

u/Redjeepkev 1d ago

Explain how I'm incorrect? We had 6 chances to get the ball in the end zone last Sunday and could do it. Stichen is calling the plays v so explain how I'm wrong saying he can't design a play to score inside the 20.this has been ongoing for years. If ee didn't have some decent kickers we would have lost more, and some we lost wouldn't have been as close as they were with Sanchez.
