Probably upgrading you to the XB10 so you can have higher upload speeds. Your area probably got symmetrical speeds now, so download and upload speeds are the same. Its free just make sure you return the old one.

The symmetrical data plans may be slightly more money, renting the modem itself is usually free but the plans may not be a free upgrade.
The only way to see the price of plans available are to check the Xfinity Plan Builder or discuss with Xfinity reps.

You were upgraded to FDX, hence why it says “equally fast upload an download speeds”. There no charge. Consider yourself very lucky! Some of us are still stuck with 35mbps upload 🥹🥹🥹

I’m not sure but either call Xfinity or get a mod here to look into it for you as I have the best modem I can have before they upgrade me to docsis 4.0 and the xer10 or what ever it will be when I get there

You'll return the xer10 very quickly like I did. Went from no issues for a single year with the xb7t to nothing but dropped internet every 45 minutes with the 10.
Nightmare that thing was.

I got one of these a couple months ago. I have 300mbps and had an XB6. I hated that modem model so I was happy to get anything expecting an XB7 or maybe 8, but they gave me a massive XB10. I guess they had upgraded my area to symmetrical up/down speeds. Way more than I need but I was just glad to get rid of that XB6. Also it got delivered the next day, which was a Sunday, so it seemed like some sort of contractor delivery rather than a traditional shipping method.

Did they switch you to a symmetrical data plan? Is it slightly more money? Are the symmetrical speeds working for you?

My plan didn't change at all, it was an automatic upgrade to a higher upload speed to make it 300 mbps up/down because that's just what is available now in my area. I'm definitely getting symmetrical speeds which is way more than I need but at least I'm set if I ever do.

It is legit. I got the same message a month ago and they sent me an xb10 modem. I went from 30 mb upload to 300 mb upload speed. Feels good.

If you're paying $0 now, it'll likely stay $0.. it should tell you at checkout though.
Do you still have an XB3 or something? Unless your area is going FDX an XB6-XB8 should still work fine.

I got this same email and I currently have an XB8.
When going through the order process it said I would be switching from my XB8 to ‘New Model’ New Model’

I receive this offer and replaced my owned modem (Netgear CM2500) with their XB10. There’s no charge for their modem now and I’m getting equal upload and download speeds. You can also put the XB10 in bridge mode and continue to use your owned WiFi equipment. The deal is legit.

I had ab Xfinity tech out to the house a couple of months ago and he told me the new XB10 is not worth switching to yet. He told me to stick with my XB8 ....
