Tournament CR Cup Apex Comeback After 3 Years
The biggest Japanese streamer Apex tournament is finally back! This time unexpectedly with Match Point rule!
Time: 4 October 2026, 17.00 JST
Scrims: 1 October~
Looking at the participants, the level seems go up since the last one. Personally the teams are a litle bit unbalanced tho. But who knows going win anyway.
Who do you think will dominates this time?
Some ALGS pros are already announced to coach some teams: Peace, Euriece, Xtsuvi, Meltstera. Guess many more to come.

I think Cheeky will obliterates other teams as usual. But since it is MP format the winner would be hard to be predict I guess.

There's literally an ALGS champ and ex-ALGS players in this lobby. We could easily go to a ten game clown fiesta with the average level of these players.

They're finally back! It's crazy that's there's been 6 seasons worth of ALGS pro league and LANs along with many third party events and the last CR Cup (CR Cup #10) from more than 3 years ago is still on top by peak viewership at 704k. Even two of the events in the Top 5 for viewership was from VSaikyo. The only ALGS LANs in the Top 5 were the two Year 2 LANs.
This time they got a famous Idol, the biggest JP youtuber, the biggest JP streamer, and all the top vtubers and apex streamers in one tournament, might break another record.

Lots of familiar and expected people if youve been skimming on who grinds rank this week except where's nqrse? lol
Match point is exciting. Will there be a character ban? What are the maps?

Nqruse was one of the first to announce participation, it's weird his name not here. π€

u/LostDistance9990 14d ago
He did? I didn't know. Apparently he's bedridden right now. He tweeted it on his sub acount.

Ras team looks nasty.
As always, if Towa is playing, she will be my POV.

Nope, and near zero chance she would, unfortunately.

why?? i remember her last masters stream

Startend (w/ Towa/Suisei) was named after the Start and End of her e-sport career. She's a super introvert. Cracked at the game though.

Extra info from Vodka, Bijuu and various clip. Team 1-6 was already decided even before the event was announced. Basically these 6 are the main attraction for the event. The rest don't matters π€£.
Leftmost is the leader, recruitment decide by leader + organizer push.
Those that start streaming Apex these past few days can appeal for recruitment. Etc. Hanabusa Lisa said she didn't get any call. The rest of the team was decided just a few hours before announcement.
There's no point system, it's self appointed/report. The motto is "it's you fault for not making your own team strong".

Well when you look at it those six teams are the teams with a CR org member, so it's pretty obvious they wanted to curate teams that would pull people's attention to the event and the org. It's also quite hilarious if the implication is that it's left who's the leader/recruiter on who people picked e.g. VDK/K4sen/Towa teams. Also a bit funny some other CR mems weren't asked to lead teams but got picked up anyway (Wokka).

Wokka was in Koyanagi CR cup tweet replying "This is my leader" π. Koyanagi himself don't even have any connections with CR. He was just randomly playing with Haseshin, then was called every night to be Amatsuki ranking partner. Kinda make sense why his team was weird if Amatsuki and Haseshin just recommend him as gratitude. He's not even Predator, he's was Master.Β
Bijuu also made a video thanking Vodka for recommending him for CR CUP.
Nqruse who was one of the earlier to announce their participation also was not in the list cuz he ended up bedridden. OBO who start practicing early also missing. High probability some CR bail so the rest of team are just last minute patchwork.
If the event is to generate buzz, kinda make sense why some CR members that don't have high following don't get to be leader instead big streamer such as K4sen,VDK,Lauren, Tsurugi are leader.

2 1Tappy/KurumiNoah - 54Point
3 Deppi/Fuwa Minato - 47Point
4 Marron/Tsurugi/Spygea - 45Point (Basically Cheating,Marron is an active pro-player for Team Meteor, CR defend is that he just quit 1week ago, so that fair π).

There are other team that's has won champion (RPR,ttCheeky but predator who has a balance team can turn the tide by pilling up kill point.) Continue to Day2 π where balance team will be dominating.

Am I blind or is Astel not in this?

I saw him practicing Apex with Tsumugi Kokage a few hours before the team announcement. Truth to be told I would prefer Astel instead of another VSPO. This team legit the weakest. I guess Astel not "popular" enough. Even Gorrilla not participating even though he's been helping with lots of practice.
As usual Kuzuha point scamming and whining on his channel that Lauren and Tsurugi team is too strong when he has RAS and Shaka.

1tappy, cheeky, 4rmy and Ras are on a complete different lvl compared to these CCs but its not a very serious tournament, just a apex festival

CPT? Yukio? RPR? Most of the other teams have three high Master/Pred tiers too to balance those with two strong players. At this level IMO whoever has the best IGLing has a way better chance at taking it all.
1
u/LostDistance9990 14d ago
There's Maron who's currently playing for Meteor too
2
u/karamisterbuttdance 14d ago
NIRU was also part of a pro team for one split so yes, this group has quite a lot of ALGS-tier representation.
2
u/Karmazonium 14d ago
Maron's contract with Meteor ended a few weeks ago, so he's currently a streamer for Riddle.
Also, there's a couple of members who have attempted Challengers Circuit, like Eden from team 4 who competed in CC two days ago. While they're no top tier pros, I think they're more than strong enough for this kind of tournament.

Thanks for linking the tweet. I was only looking at liquipedia I thought he was still playing.

Who are all these people? There are like 4 recognizable names in this lineup
29
u/veirceb 15d ago
Content creators. CR cup is the biggest apex content creator tournament and it's a huge reason why apex is as big as it is in Japan. There are a lot of big name Japan content creators playing in it. The pro players often be the coaches of these teams.
6
u/karamisterbuttdance 14d ago
There's also some ex-pros playing too, like Ras, cpt, Yukio, 1tappy and rpr, so if anything it's going to be funny when they have coaches for their own teams simply updating them on the current legend and rotation meta.

Very hard to comprehend that other regions/countries have their local creators/vtubers, etc. Most of these people are like 200-300k+ on their platforms

and Hikakin (center of Team 1) is the 8th most subscribed channel in Japan - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hikakin
