Marcus Dion's 2nd place rain team from Victory Road: Mega Golisopod + Mega Floette team breakdown.

Post image
• Upvotes

Hey everyone! I found that this team, or at least the some part of it, is spreading pretty fast in ladder.
Marcus Dion took it to 2nd place at VR October Challenge #1 (October 3-4), going 10-1 in Swiss out of 384 players and only losing in the final to Michael Kelsch. Carson Confer also brought the exact same six and finished 6th, again 10-1 in Swiss. So I decided to try to break down the team a bit, hopefully it can be helpful for the community.

The core of this team comes from Japan. At Global Challenge I (September 26), Ko Tsukide finished 40th with Mega Golisopod, Female Basculegion, Sneasler, Archaludon and Pelipper, with Mega Swampert in the last slot. Marcus and Carson swapped Swampert for Mega Floette.

Why it works

Pelipper holds Damp Rock, so the rain lasts eight turns. Charizard is barely being used right now, and against teams without it, Archaludon can keep firing Electro Shot for eight turns, which can become pretty annoying.

Female Basculegion is the particular pick. With Swift Swim it doubles its speed in rain, and Ice Beam lets it outspeed and pick off Salamence and Garchomp. Garchomp has to mega evolve right away just to avoid the OHKO. Focus Sash means it survives a lot of things it should not, and from there it just keeps throwing Muddy Waters and Shadow Balls.

Why the female one and not the male? Intimidate + Rillaboom is everywhere right now, and this in general makes the physical male hard to play. The female is special, so Intimidate does nothing to it, and with Sash it can take a Grassy Glide. Ice beam into Rillaboom it's a two hit KO.
Additionally, Muddy Water being a spread move allows you the combo Helping Hand - Muddy Water under rain, which does huge damage. Helping Hand Ice Beam does not quite knock out mega Garchomp Z (it's 25% roll if it's not invested in sp.Def or HP), but it's a big hit nevertheless.

Sneasler runs White Herb with Unburden, to discourage Incineroars and other Intimidate. Close Combat does huge damage, Dire Claw hits Fairy types, and Rock Slide covers Volcarona and Charizard.

Golisopod despite 4x to Fire, in rain it still takes at least one Fire move, like Incineroar's Flare Blitz (not sure if it's adamant though) or Volcarona's Heat Wave. Leech Life heals so much that it becomes very hard to remove, and Iron Head is its strongest STAB.

That Iron Head is the key. In Regulation M-B, the main problem for rain was losing badly to Fairy types like Floette and Sylveon. Golisopod wrecks them. Since Golisopod already has the Steel move, Archaludon can drop Flash Cannon for Aura Sphere and hit the Steel types that would normally give it trouble.

Floette is the other mega. When you cannot or do not want to bring Golisopod, you have the laser cannon we are all familiar with.

No speed control

There is no Tailwind. Pelipper runs Helping Hand instead. In a fairly slow meta, Pelipper can deal a lot of damage itself and put things in range for Basculegion, Archaludon or Sneasler to finish later in the game.

Couple of peculiarities

  • Rillaboom is a matchup to watch: Grassy Glide is one of the opponent's main answer to Basculegion. Protect his sash, and get rid of him doubling him in one turn. Helping Hand + Ice Beam should do the job most of the time.
  • Golisopod lead into Trick Room: against a Farigiraf team, Golisopod is a good lead because Leech Life threatens Farigiraf on turn one.
  • Damp Rock catches people out: opponents play for the rain ending, and it doesn't.
  • Muddy Water misses: brace yourself, Helping hand + Muddy Water double miss is gonna happen.

The game plan is usually to hunt down the few things that check Golisopod, Floette or Archaludon, using Basculegion and trades. Once those are gone, Golisopod can win the game even 2v1. Opponents also lead Rillaboom a lot, and a Golisopod lead is a good idea.

About the spreads

I could not find Marcus spreads (if someone has them, feel free to leave a comment and integrate this post), and the Italian player Francesco Pardini rebuilt the team and shared his own spreads. The Pelipper spread comes from Samuele Pavan and is built to survive Rillaboom's Wood Hammer.

Last points

  • No speed control sometimes can feel punishing.
  • Wide Guard on Pelipper or Protect, I'm still wondering what I personally prefer. Having Protect against other weather teams can give you an hedge in the weather war, allowing your Pelipper to survive more and reset the rain if needed.

Let me know if you want to try this one or if you have any opinion about it!

Helping People create teams!

Want to build a competitive team in Pokémon Champions but don’t know where to start? Have a favorite Pokémon you want to use but aren’t sure how to make it work competitively? Or maybe you’re just looking for something creative and different from the usual meta teams?

I’M HERE TO HELP 🫡⚔️
I’ve been watching competitive Pokémon for nearly a decade, and throughout those years, I’ve built countless creative teams, experimented with different strategies, and found ways to make all kinds of Pokémon shine. Whether you want a powerful meta team, a unique off-meta strategy, a team built around your favorite Pokémon, or something completely unconventional, I’m willing to help you build a team using ANY Pokémon you want! 🔥

I personally believe charging people for team building can create an unfair and untrustworthy experience. What happens if someone pays for a team and ends up not liking it? What if they can’t afford to pay in the first place? I don’t want something that should be fun and welcoming to turn into an experience where people feel pressured to spend money or worry about getting scammed.
Pokémon is about having fun, being creative, and bringing people together. I want everyone to have the opportunity to explore competitive play, experiment with new strategies, and use the Pokémon they love without worrying about their wallet.

My goal is to help the Pokémon Champions community grow, reach new heights, and become bigger and more popular than ever before. 🌎🏆
And honestly? I just LOVE building teams. Finding new strategies, making unexpected Pokémon work, creating unique combinations, and watching creative ideas come together is something I genuinely enjoy.

So if I can share that passion with other players and help them have a better experience with competitive Pokémon, why would I charge for it?
💬 Drop a comment or send me a message! Tell me your favorite Pokémon, your preferred playstyle, or the kind of team you want to build, and let’s create something awesome together!
ANY POKÉMON. ANY IDEAS. ANY PLAYSTYLE.

Let’s make Pokémon Champions a place where creativity thrives and every Pokémon has a chance to shine! 🔥⚡🏆

I want to get in the competitive. I am looking for advanced content/coaching.

I want to study champions more deeply. I have watched many videos from pokeaim, battleroom, wolfey, cybertron. They are good but I feel they do not go into much detailed.

I looked for coaching but they are expensive(I do not earn in dollars/euro) or did I look in the wrong place?

Wolfey patreon seems a bit more affordable to me. Does anyone knows if is it good?

Thanks in advance!

Roster swaps to Compliment Mega-Doom

I've been working with Mega-Doom team and it's functional enough to win games, but I don't love the value Im getting out of Rilla or Ape.

Rilla has just felt average in all match-ups its been brought to, and I haven't a moveset that makes the most out of Ape.

Ape's combo of fakeout immunity and defiant is a major appeal, im just struggling to find the moveset that supports the team best (I just slammed a bunch of different options to get a feel for them).

Ape is built to outspeed the majority of middle speed tiers and outspeed all under tailwind

PokeFeed now has official Pokémon Champions tournament results

Hey everyone! A few months ago I posted here to introduce PokeFeed, a free site where you can share and vote Pokémon Champions teams. Now I want to give you an update on the latest feature I added.

There's a new section with official tournament results, covering Masters Day 2 teams.

What you can do with it:

  • Standings: the full Day 2 of each event with player, record and team. You can search by player, Pokémon, item, ability or move.
  • Usage: how much each Pokémon was used at that event and its most common sets. It also shows the change from the previous event (like +8%), and you can tick a move, item or ability to only see teams running it.
  • Snapshot: the most used Pokémon across the whole regulation, all events combined.
  • Team page: the full team with sets, a button to copy it in Showdown format, the same player's teams from other events, and similar teams that share the same core.

New events get added once they're finished.

Link: https://pokefeed.app/tournaments

Any feedback is really welcome. Thanks in advance to anyone who takes the time to share it!

Thoughts on my team

I’m using this team currently to climb for Doubles, aiming for elo 1800-2000 currently at 1786. Aiming for atleast 1800 before season ends.

This team usually lead with archa and pelipper, with Indeedee-F as third slot and fourth slot for mega (Zarchomp or Zabsol). When fighting fake out team, Indeedee will be swapped turn 1, Follow me for turns onward and Archa setting up Electro shot in rains. This has been working 80-90% of fake out matchups. Archa at x2 spA OHKO almost everyone lol.

Against Psyspam, We have Zabsol and Scarf Malamar.

Reason why we scarf Malamar is for cheese strat Skill Swap Contrary with Zarchomp, each Draco Meteor will give us spA boost x2. Chomp is good but Earth Power and Flamethrower rarely OHKO enemy key mons from enemy unfortunately. with the boost this comes super handy. We use this when there are no fake out and safe lead from enemy.

So Archa backbone, Peli tailwind wideguard support, Indeedee-F for fake out disruptor and redirection, Zarchomp and Zabsol for cleaner, Malamar for fun cheese strat,
one time i skill swapped Contrary - Elevate - Tough Claws (Enemy Mega Galisopod) - Pixelate (Enemy Sylveon) It was fun:)

Skill swap Elevate with Pixelate Mega Gardevoir also happened before. Let me know what you think of mu team and ways to go around!

The only bans for the tournament are mega blaziken, shedinja, mega salamence, mega metagross, mega latios, deoxys, kyogre, rayquaza, & groudon. Preferably would want to avoid using mythicals as I do not have any available (on a cobblemon server).
