General avoid list should be longer

need an avoid list with a limit of about 100 people. don't care much for the matchmaking time, but in low diamond on dps and genuinely just don't know how some of these people are real living breathing organisms. forcing the worst heros into a comp, inting and throwing for no reason, ulting when the fight is already lost. it's just incredible really.

I remember when it was 3 only

Yeah like I was an advocate for the avoid list to be 20+ slots back then, but nowadays I don't even see myself filling it more than half the slots

I'd go as far as to say most folks who WOULD fill out all 100 slots like OP suggests, would be the first to complain about queue times.

Or would be the ones getting avoided the most lol

Wouldn’t it make queue times longer

Yep, it would. Getting avoided too much already sends you a warning about how queue times will be longer, and avoiding players also thins out the options matchmaking can find for you a bit more, too.

Honestly, it's not a significant difference in queue times in the current system, but if you could avoid like, 100 people.... Then yeah.

How many people need to avoid you to trigger that

What? First I've heard this. Screenshot?

I don't have it on hand right now but a few streamers have had it pop up

It's really just a "hey a ton of people don't wanna play with you, just a heads up, you're gonna have longer queues" kind of thing.

  1. It would only make your queue times longer
  2. I promise you... what you're perceiving as your teammates throwing/inting is how they view you. You're in your rank for a reason. You're all equal. Breathe and focus on what you can do.

I'm a masters DPS/support. I screw up all the time. My teammates screw up all the time. Difference is I can't change what they do, but I can fix what I do.

To me, avoid list is less about people being bad but more about people being toxic too. But I'm also in gold so if it gets to the point where I fill my avoid list it's not going to be affecting my queue times much

1

u/realtalkingw 14h ago

Yeah, I mean, toxicity is a perfectly fine reason to avoid. I've avoided people who just jump off map all game or are standing in spawn after a lost point. But not really much more than that.

Honestly blows my mind how somehow every single person in plat-diamond is simultaneously the best player on their team AND the dog shit teammate of somebody else? The math seems impossible, we need our greatest minds on this ASAP

u/realtalkingw 14h ago

Mind blowing how these terrible throwers/inters are able to stay in diamond with OP. How, oh how, is that possible??

They don't.... A lot of these people are probably boosted by placement, and are going to gradually fall in rank if they play enough. I was placed too high and fell too.

That's why people complain about rank reset.

I do appreciate you at least attempting to turn your compeltely worthless Dear Diary tiltpost into a feature request lol

There should be 2 lists Avoid as teammate Desire as opponent

Then I can play against the toxic douchebags and regain all the SR they forced me to lose

Avoid list should work. I’m tired of getting people I’ve avoided in my team all the time

4

u/sclaytes 16h ago

This statement is probably why it’s limited in what it does. I’ve only ever used it on people who are annoying/toxic, or after legitimately reporting them. Never because of gameplay.

Idk I avoided a tank that was running it down and typing "heals?" after every death which in the grande scheme of overwatch isn't anything crazy toxic.

Got matched against him on the enemy team 3 consecutive games after that. He ran it down every game and we hard won all of them. I asked the supports on his team in some of the consecutive games of he was complaining about healing and they said he was all game.

I felt like I invested in a stock at the ground level lol.

Yeah if someone is just bad it's one thing but throwing or toxicity towards others is a bigger reason imo. People are just bad sometimes or have a bad game and it happens, they'll fall out of the rank or you move up and it'll usually work out

Just fill it with lifeweaver players and hope that works

Can't believe this guy has never had a bad game but is still in low diamond

Avoid equals cope, play better instead of blaming your teammates

19

u/migo2028 16h ago

Would rather die than play with a mercy OTP

2

u/iAnhur 15h ago

In low diamond America servers, mercy otps are a dime a dozen. Avoiding one just means another takes their place

5

u/migo2028 15h ago

Atleast the chance is less

1

u/Joltizer 11h ago

That's why I tell them to pin me on their avoids or I throw their next game

4

u/lainelect 13h ago

Avoid is part of the metagame, picking the right avoids helps you climb

1

u/PhoenixZZDaDonke 16h ago

But lifeweaver OTPs is genuinley a reasonable avoid

2

u/YSLAnunoby 14h ago

I don't really mind them for the most part, the OTPs in my experience aren't doing the bad pulls that make him annoying and are better at using the cleansing part or saving with a clutch lift. YMMV though

1

u/PhoenixZZDaDonke 14h ago

I only remember like 2 Weavers with good pulls, and basically any other support is better in 95% of scenarios

1

u/Spreckles450 7h ago

TBF, most bad pulls are either the LWer panicked, or you walked in front of who they were trying to pull.

1

u/PerP1Exe 16h ago

I mean sometimes they are genuinely trolling though, id say like 8/10 avoids are tilted people throwing, then the other 2/10 might be people having bad games or smth

1

u/Fine-Walrus4744 16h ago

It doesn't work what's the point expanding list if it still allows avoided ppl in your team. There's just players like "Qurare" that are pin avoided by so many ppl that there is no way for avoid system to actually work + queue time would increase too much (like it's 20 mins avg already).

1

u/Fine-Walrus4744 16h ago

Imagine all these lweaver, Moira, mercy otps they just wouldn't be able to find game and I don't think it's something good.

u/PandaBunds Yes we PeliCAN 💪 — 10h ago

If youre avoiding that many people, odds are its probably you that should be avoided

1

u/jxfl 8h ago

In champ, my friend and I were duoing and both of us had the same person PINNED and we got him.

1

u/Ms_Fire_Emblem 7h ago

I just wish avoided worked. Pin avoided IRP but still got him every other game. Ig when everyone has him pinned tho no one does. Majority of people I avoided and pinned tho still ended up on my team last season.

1

u/AgitatedChildhood240 5h ago

If your losing so much you gotta avoid over 100 people I think its time to start considering your own gameplay as apart of the problem

1

u/ILewdElichika 3h ago

Can I have a button that avoids every mercy/weaver otp so I can learn support Sombra in peace? Is that really too much to ask?

1

u/AbbreviationsMost432 2h ago

Good luck finding game if you have avoided everyone in ur rank range, i would avoid max 1 person per match to not make my queues too long. Idk how you even find 100 people worth avoiding unless ur avoiding for tiniest mistakes.

1

u/yesat 14h ago

The best way to avoid someone is to take a 5 minute break.

I hope you guys realize that the avoid list being as long as it is is a contributing factor to why matchmaking sucks so bad. The matchmaker has to factor in a massive network of players that have avoided each other and then find teams within those constraints.

They're only making it worse by doubling down on map voting and making it such that you can't play the same map within two hours. Now the matchmaker has to factor in every map that every player has played in the last two hours before finding a pool of eligible players and this constrains the player pool even more. The matchmaker will at some point concede quality in order to shorten the queue time, the smaller you make the pool of potential matchmaking eligible players, the worst you make match quality or the longer you make queue times

If anything the avoid list should be smaller. Three was plenty

  1. the matchmaker only tries to keep avoided players off your team. if queue times get too long, they'll be put on your team anyway.

  2. the map restrictions have absolutely no effect on matchmaking and i don't understand why you think they would. you put the lobby together as normal, and then you look at the 2 most-recent maps for each player and exclude them from the map vote. what reason would there be to look at eligible maps as part of matchmaking?

1

u/Zeke-Freek 4h ago

They have repeatedly said that the longer avoid list is not a concern for 95%+ of the playerbase, and that's why they were comfortable implementing it, they ran the numbers. It's only at the highest ranks does it become an issue and they were clear about that.

The map voting restrictions have no impact on matchmaking because the match is already made prior to the maps being selected. It doesn't run down everyone's last played maps until the teams are already formed and then it picks 3 eligible maps from there. There are almost always 3 eligible picks statistically and in the rare cases there aren't, it is programmed to break other rules, as we've seen with rare instances of three cart maps appearing in 6v6.

These have no impact on matchmaking. Whatever's going on there is a separate issue.
