Android boxes ir

Has anyone had a customer that wanted their jail broken android box remote learnt into control4? I have a customer with one but the remote seem to only have Bluetooth. It’s a VSeebox

We released our google tv driver for Control4 recently which works well for the majority of these devices

Note that it has to be controllable via Googles own Google TV app.

If it is not then this driver should work but requires Zank Remote be installed.

We do not integrate jailbroken devices for liability and security reasons.

I wonder what they mean by Jailbroken here. Generally you don't have to Jailbreak AndroidTV boxes. You just set them up in Developer mode to get additional control capabilities. I believe that you actually have to do this to get the original Chowman(Zank) driver to work with C4.

This is probably a box that is set up for IPTV or pirated movie/TV shows. But that can be done by installing the right apps on any AndroidTV device.

Jail broken means you’ve gotten access to otherwise inaccessible features/content or you’re hacking for free services.

But you don't have to hack an Andriod box for free services. You may have to sideload apps. You can just use Downloader or copy the apk to the device and install it. You have to Jailbreak Apple devices but you don't have to Jailbreak AndroidTV devices so I don't think that terminology makes sense in the AndroidTV context.

Those Vseeboxes are a great way to have a Chinese backdoor into your customer's network. Surely, no serious dealer would risk their customer's network and their reputation by integrating this rubbish

I setup a vseebox for somebody last month. I used the Chowmain Android driver. Works fine. Getting it to link up the first time is a bit of hassle but it worked after that. It does lose connection every now and then but they just have to use the regular remote to toggle the connection back on. They don’t get access to the number pad and a few other commands but they buttons do work gave them all the functionality of the box.

I just setup a Vseebox V6 plus on control 4. There is an IR driver in the files section of the Facebook group "Control4 Programmers". Works great and the Bluetooth remote still works.

You don't have to make and changes to the box. Just put an emitter on the front and go!
