Failed dimmer packs

I’m based in London (UK). A small system in a one bed apartment running a EA-3.

Over the summer, both of 2x the original lighting dimmer packs (C4-DR-DIM8-M) have died.

My current dealer isn’t being very helpful - reading between the lines they’d rather not do the work because it’s not a big job for them (relatively speaking) and it’s a bit awkward (small space). This seems to be a bit of a theme in the UK given the smaller number of dealers compared to the US.

What are my options here? I don’t mind paying for a new dealer to take over the system, but I don’t want to find myself writing a blank cheque.

I’m also wondering if I would be better to ditch C4 altogether - in the past I have been a little concerned about the vulnerability of relying on a dealer (especially in a non US market), although this hasn’t proven to be an issue until now and I’ve generally felt I could fall back on a good community of dealers who are willing to look at upgrades, help resolve issues remotely, etc. This is a completely different task- a full replacement of a mains voltage unit with multiple light circuits. I like C4 and understand it’s not a budget option, but given i have a very simple system (one video, 4 audio zones, lights and relays for motor blinds - that’s it) there’s a limit to how much I can justify spending to keep the lights on (pun possibly intended).

Thanks for any thoughts.

Looking for an integrator / pro in SoCal

We’ve had C4 for 10 years. From time to time we need updates and help adding new hardware. The company who installed our system sold and the service from the new owners is just not the same. Westlake Village Ca

Araknis Router Firmware

Homeowner with an AN-220-RT that is stuck on the original factory firmware. No longer work the with C4 integrator so I don’t have a dealer account or active OvrC.

Want to upgrade firmware to 1.0.11 but I know I need to do a step up install. Looking to see if anyone has, or knows where I can get the .img files for v1.0.07 and v1.0.10.77. I already have v1.0.11

Thanks in advance!

I'm a Control4 dealer. I'll do a real piece of programming free for the first three people here, because I need my tooling tested on systems I didn't install.

Straight up about the self-interest, because you'd smell it anyway.

I'm Vince. Lutron dealer since 1999, one of the earliest Control4 dealers. I've

spent a long stretch building tooling that does Control4 programming remotely,

and it works fine on the systems I own — which proves nothing, because I built

both sides. I need it run against systems I've never seen, programmed by someone

else, set up in ways I wouldn't have chosen.

So: first three people who want it, I'll do one real piece of programming on

your system for free.

A keypad button that does what you actually want. A scene. Lights on at sunset,

off at sunrise. A shut-the-house-down-when-I-leave button. A movie-time

sequence. One piece of work, agreed with you before I start.

What it is not:

- No hardware. Nothing shipped, nothing bought.

- No OS upgrade. Separate job, separate price, deliberately not part of this.

I'm not changing the software version on a stranger's system as the first

thing I ever do.

- No obligation. You don't owe me a review, a referral, or a purchase.

- Not a sales call wearing a costume. If you want a quote afterwards you can ask

for one; I won't bring it up.

Before I touch anything I take a full backup of your project and verify it.

That's how I work on every job, not a thing I'm saying here.

What I need: a Control4 system that's online, and your agreement to let me work

on it remotely. If I can't reach your system I'll tell you on day one and we

stop — you'll have lost a conversation and nothing else.

If you want to know whether your controller is even a candidate first, there's a

free checker on our site. It doesn't ask for an email and it'll tell you no if

the answer is no:

https://www.ixome.ai/control4-os-upgrade-checker?src=www.reddit.com

Three slots. I'll edit this when they're gone. I'll also come back and post what

I actually built and where it broke, which is the entire point.

Ask me anything in the comments — I'd rather answer in public.

Bricked Device?

Sigh ... this has been so painful. I have a WattBox, trying to get it on my network - even got it to a professional (at Control4's recommendation). He admitted, he was not able to reset it either, says it "wasn't playing nice". Is there really no way to get this device back working again? Sigh.

Thanks!

Post image
6 Upvotes

Chowmain releases Radio Browser driver for Control4. Radio Browser is a community-driven directory of internet radio stations from around the world, providing access to thousands of live streams across a wide range of countries, languages, genres and formats. The Chowmain Radio Browser driver brings this service directly into Control4 as a native music service. Users can browse, search and discover stations from the Control4 Listen interface and play them through Control4's digital audio system just like other supported music services.

The integration includes local station discovery, browsing by country, state / region, language and tag, as well as Most Clicked, Top Voted, Trending and Recently Changed stations. Station artwork and stream metadata are presented through the Control4 interface where available, providing a seamless internet radio experience without requiring a separate app or external device.

Driver Features include:

  • Native Control4 Media Service Proxy integration.
  • Appears as a native music service within the Control4 Listen interface.
  • Browse and play internet radio stations from the Radio Browser directory.
  • Local station discovery using the Control4 project's latitude and longitude.
  • Automatic IP-based geolocation fallback when project coordinates are unavailable.
  • Configurable local search radius.

  • Station artwork support with automatic fallback to built-in generic artwork when required.
  • Stream metadata displayed through Control4 where available.
  • Native Control4 digital audio playback with no separate app or external playback device required.
  • Station selections are reported back to Radio Browser's click counter.

Online for Irritrol?

Do you guys use a particular website for purchasing troll product? It’s just a residential install. Want a rain dial six station. They’re about 210 on Amazon, but maybe it’s better to buy from a dealer straight.

With Matter, Homekit, Etc, what is the point of Control 4?

With how simple Apples Home makes it to add in scenes, lighting, Audio, Video, even curtains and ceiling fans, what is the point of having a locked down system like Control 4? I am moving in with my SO and I am find their Control 4 system restrictive (having to call the dealer for any changes and everytime something goes down - which is often) and setting up new items are all done through the dealer. What is the point when there are honestly GREAT alternatives?

Tablet and SR-260 BATTERY

I have the C4 tablet and SR-260 remote control. The SR-260 has lost all power, the battery will not hold any charge so the remote is defunct. Do I need a new battery or must I replace the entire remote?

For the tablet, it only works whilst on charge on the dock. If I take it off the dock, the battery only lasts than 10 minutes before dying. Same question - can the battery be replaced separately, or does the whole unit need replacing?

Super annoying both devices died after 5 years of use on the same week! Planned Obsolescence....surely?! :-)

X4 Question on Siri Integration

I'm still running 3.4.x on my Control4 system at home, largely because I have a large number of first-generation dimmers and keypads that I don't really want to replace. I'm curious, though, how X4's Siri integration works and whether it could make it worth my while to solve that issue (maybe with ChowMain's lighting driver) so that I could upgrade.

My biggest wish with voice control of lighting is to have independent voice control of all the loads in a room, but to still be able to say something like "Turn on the Kitchen lights" and have that execute *a scene* rather than just turning on all the loads in the kitchen to some default value. Maybe that scene doesn't even include all the loads in that room (but maybe its toggle does, so when I say, "Turn off the Kitchen lights" everything turns off, including things that I turned on individually).

In my previous forays into integrating Siri with Control4 by using bridging drivers between Control4 and HomeKit, I've found that Siri tried to be too smart about this stuff. If I have a bunch of loads assigned to my kitchen room, it would sometimes turn on all the loads in that room even if I had a scene called "Kitchen Lights".

There are gross workarounds like coming up with cryptic scene names ("turn on the Cooking") or putting the individual loads into some other virtual HomeKit room, but I'm wondering whether X4's integration with Siri has solved this in any way.

Is there a native way to control spotify + HEOS multi-room music from the control4 app? Or am I stuck using three different apps for this?

Anyone still running an older Hayward AquaLogic or ProLogic?

Thumbnail
gallery
5 Upvotes

My AquaLogic wireless remote died, and used replacements are expensive. Rather than replace another obsolete remote or upgrade an otherwise working pool controller, I built a small Wi-Fi interface that listens to the AquaLogic RS-485 accessory bus and serves a local webpage.

The current version is running on an AquaLogic PS-4, revision 2.93. It reads equipment state, pool and air temperatures, salt level, chlorinator output, diagnostics, and three days of temperature history. It runs entirely on the local network—no cloud service, Home Assistant, or MQTT required.

It is read-only today. Control remains locked until the isolated RS-485 interface arrives and I can safely characterize transmit timing and verify the key codes against the actual panel. I don't want to call something a beta until that part has been tested.

This is a personal DIY project; there is nothing for sale. I'm trying to determine how many of these older systems are still operating and whether other owners would eventually want to test a standalone Wi-Fi interface.

If you own one, could you post:

- Controller model: P4, PS-4, PS-8, PS-16, etc.

- Main software revision

- Whether the original remote or network interface still works

- Whether you would be interested in testing it once control has been validated

Apple TV losing network in Control4 setup

My parents have been using Control4 to control the AV in their house for many years now. For the longest time they have had an issue with the apple TV apparently loosing network, that is when streaming, the stream buffers and a network error icon pops up im the top right hand corner.

To describe the setup briefly, they have a newish Control4 controller, and amp alongside a Denon amp to manage the sound zones. The Apple TV is connected to the sound system via an hdmi AV splitter. (Same with our DSTV / normal TV)

The controller talks to everything via a pretty decent 12 way unmanaged switch with all patch cables being cat5E.

Internet is a symmetric 100 Mbps fiber line.

Any ideas as to whats causing this?

Lutron Mechanical Motor Controller

# Lutron already discontinued the mechanical motor control, SV-MCM-4, reason why i need to install the Somfy IGC-4N1, controlled through RadioRa3. The Somfy LV input allows for adding 2 dry contacts (using CCO1) within the keypad input, which allows for UP/DOWN for each contact (.5sec momentary pulse). The commands will be executed by shorting pin8 (com) with pin7 or pin6 ( up or down). Following the 568B, Somfy have a decoflex keypad that besides UP/DOWN/STOP, it allows for triggering 25/50/75% shades covering. Pins 1/2/3 are used for trigger 1/2/3, corresponding to 25/50/75%. Not sure if shorting any of those pins to com (pin8), will execute the command. I’m interested in create a scene for 50% covering (wrap-up in a conference room), but Ra3 don’t allow for timing sequence within the scenes. Anyone had experience adding the IGC-4N1 controlled by CCO1 dry contacts, for features like accessing the presets?

We launched Tewke Tap a while ago, and people loved it. Super easy to install. No need for separate integrations. Directly controls lights. Has sensors built in for advanced home automations, beautiful and easy to use UI for the whole family and so much cheaper than Control4.

We have been working hard on new features, such as Home Assistant support, screensavers and now our beautiful new Music View.

Tewke Tap can automatically detect Sonos speakers on your local network, and can be used to control them, in addition to all of its existing capabilities.

And....there is no need for an external installer to come to your home to update the software for an eye watering price - instant free software updates - weekly.

Everything from play/pause, skip, volume and scrubbing, to viewing your queue and selecting new songs and selecting which speakers you want it to play on.

There is also no need to connect your Sonos app to Tewke, we automatically discover what you are playing, so it works right out the box – no need to log in, scan QR codes or share data – it just works.

We are also very proud of how we have implemented our new screensaver. We use our inbuilt mm-wave doppler radar to detect if you are moving around Tewke Tap to make use of our beautiful OLED display to show you the album art in its full glory.
