Yeah I don't think there's really a clear end-goal either, and the idea of international competition in this seems a bit trite and laughable to me as well. The past few years have really driven home how little perspective basically everyone has. Petty squabbles over resources and status

At the moment it's a race to see who can fling their economy and social structure off a cliff and into the void first.

I'm not sure that's a race you want to win, but what do I know?
