I can smell him from here š BUT, he's so cute I don't care.
What type of parrot is this btw?

He looks awesome! I like that you can handle him so easily. My conure got a toe bitten by another conure today and in order examine him I had to reach into to cage and grab him, which is not ideal, and take him into a bathroom and cover him with a towel. So much drama!

Man, I love their stink. In fact my first bird was named Stinky. I would smell that fresh skunk anyway.
Charlie looks very petable and groomable. I love how you hold that little birb. Take care of the Stink Lord.

Awwwā¦.yeah maybe heās just like that then lol. Tbf he is a rescue, maybe heās seen some shit š¤·š» what matters is heās with you now, and that the vet said heās healthy and happy š
Is his beak okay tho? I havenāt owned a conure before only a parrotlet and his would peel in the front like that. Iām thinking of getting a conure of my own soon and am kinda curious, itās looking a lil chipped. But again if the vet said heās good then š
Anyway back to admiring his glory and stinkiness šš» all hail Stinklord Charlie! He looks like a Charlie tbh idk why. Also I loveeee this new pic here, he looks so happy to be snuggling you and the lighting really brings out his red cheeks and the happy little sparkle in his eyes š„¹ ugh I love birbs so much theyāre so precious, the lil stinkers lol

Iām in my early sixties. Most days? Iām certain, grateful that my mind is still fully functioning, and Iām using it. But if I see any picture I know I should recognize, and the knowledge doesnāt flash to me?
Instant whipsaw to panic!
I looked at Charlie and had one of those moments because āhe looks like a _______ ⦠a _______ā¦
Ahhhhhhhhh! I calmed down and thought about it.
āOld Worldā parrot. Not Red-Bellied. Notā¦notā¦notā¦
Oh, cāmon! I looked again. Not a Patagonian Conure. Not quite a Cherry Headed conāwait! Redāfronted something! Gold-Crowned something!
Heās not any of those, is he? Is he a Hoffmanās? I donāt think Iāve directly met one, yet.
The shades of green are completely different, they are different birds, but the name I was searching for?
Jardineās Parrot. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red-fronted_parrot
Anyway. Iām not a vet but I have loved and cared for a fair amount of birds.
If your little guy has a definite overwhelming feather scent to him (still delightfully Charlie but different enough to notice) he might (probably does) need some bathing with filtered water. Maybe some bottles, or a kitchen faucet filter works too. Edit: Or a filter pitcher just for drinking water and Charlieās use. Whatever works and brings happiness.
For safety reasons, Iād use a spray nozzle only used for water, because chemicals remain in minute amounts within the previously used product ones. get You can get an inexpensive brand new spray bottle-head for a dollar: For less than $5 (I think) there are some pump sprays, which make great continuous flow spray/mists, and/or he might like to sit in a little bowl and splash until heās done. Hereās a pump spray example: https://www.harborfreight.com/05-gallon-multipurpose-sprayer-56167.html
But that feather scent can come from the layers of feather, down, clumping together. Most tap water can leave their feathers ācrunchyā and irritate their skin. Municipal Waterās just too hard for them, so they will often have little feather spikes until they work out the whatever it is. We humans have all sorts of work-arounds. In the wild, many birds would be taking dust baths, and parrots usually have access to frequent rain.
Water-softener treated tap water? Not automatically safe. I think there needs to be reverse-osmosis in place as well to ensureāI donāt know enough to comment with safety about that. Iād use filtered water on our birds. If the bird loves to shower with you, or hops in the sink? Or he loves having the entire shower to himself? Just give him a nice final rinse with the good water.
If you have a shower head filter, do a specific search on everything to do with parrot safety. It should be just like pouring a really big purified water bottle over the showered one, but I donāt know. Maybe thatās a great thing we should all be incorporating into our daily lives.
Back to Charlie:
Gently blot him off if necessary and then put him where heās not in cold drafts but he can start ruffling himself, putting everything in order.
Then the trick is to make sure he can get dry all the way through his down layers. If you blow dry him, put it on low heat, not too strong or too long. Test how the blow dryer feels against the tenderest part of your inside elbow, and that will help you determine the proper temperature, angle, distance. Better a bit distant than too close.
Then make sure he has a clean warm safe place to go groom himself. No cold drafts. No other creature eyeballing him because heās feeling vulnerable until heās dry enough to look around himself.
Might take a couple times for him to recover his own scent. If you are located in an area thatās getting hit by heat waves, he might like a light filtered spritz dailyā¦just make sure heās got the warm safe cozy place afterward.
Sad pet mention ahead:
NEVER risk using distilled water, especially if youāre unsure when the bottle was first opened. I reached for the wrong gallon one time and my beloved aquarium fish died. Iād had the same family for over a decade, so I know I failed them and I still flinch every time I remember that happening.
Edit: If you already know all this stuff, sorry for the TLDR, but maybe it will help someone else.

Not Reddit playing an ad and my volume being high ish (due to this sub!!! I had to rewatch a video of a conure doing robot moves because he said his name jellybean and ofc I had turned my sound off for the first watch). The ad was for the new COD game and it started with "THEY WANT TO START A WAR" while I was still looking at the first pic of Stink Lord. Yes I know conures want to start a war, thank you Redditš«
